Would you wear this to a wedding??

I’ve bought this dress for an afternoon “lounge suit” dress code wedding and am now panicking it’s too casual. How would you dress this up? I’m twenties, short, pale and slim, typical style is casual with basic makeup only. TIA Smile

I think it's perfect.

But I'm a bit confused - will you be changing for the black tie evening do?

Dippypippy1980 · 20/06/2019 22:52

It’s a lovely dress.

I don’t think I would wear it to a wedding - it’s more a casual day dress.

But it does look lovely on you

EB100 · 20/06/2019 23:06

Quite casual I think. But a lightweight cream blazer (cropped) could maybe change the look? Quiz etc

Randomneim · 20/06/2019 23:35

dress up the accessories and jewelry and it's def. lounge suit I reckon, unless it's in a really casual fabric. the fitted cut says lounge suit to me. It's a cool frock!

EatenByDinosaurs · 21/06/2019 01:10

It looks lovely on you but I'd definitely say it's too casual.
As PPs have suggested with a smart blazer and smart heels (not wedges) it would probably be OK Smile

Lollypop701 · 21/06/2019 08:50

I like it. Either silver or royal blue accessories and hair up would take it up a level.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 21/06/2019 09:12

If I were getting married I would want at least one of my guests to wear this from & Other Stories. So cute, but so definitely made for An Event.

Fatkins · 21/06/2019 09:23

I think it's fine and if I was going for 'fine' I'd stick with it. But seeing as you've ordered options, I'd be surprised if this was the best one.

I anything I think it's a wee bit dowdy. I think it's the length and colour. I'd personally go with something a bit longer and floatier in a more summery colour. I think you could pull it off. You have the lovely figure and skin for it! That dress doesn't make the most of it*.

Glad you agree with the NO FASCINATOR advice Grin! I do too!

*Categorically not saying you should rock up in hot pants and a bikini top btw. I think you could make more of your figure with an equally classy / non revealing dress.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 21/06/2019 09:27

Looks better on you than the model OP! I think it's fine. Just dress it up. Fascinator maybe? X

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 21/06/2019 09:27

Ha! Sorry just read previous posts 🤣

GeorgeTheBleeder · 21/06/2019 09:40

But these shoes would take the dress to a wedding.

TheRedBarrows · 21/06/2019 09:42

I think it is lovely.

The shop website have it accessorised very day to day. I would go with something a bit more glamorous in the bag / shoe / earring department, something shiny or floaty rather than dull brown and it will be lovely.

TheRedBarrows · 21/06/2019 09:43

Good shoes by GeorgeTheBleeder

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 21/06/2019 09:44

I think it’s fine - wear some heels or wedges and you’ll be all good

bingoitsadingo · 21/06/2019 09:44

I think it's a bit too casual - it's a cotton day dress.
Lounge suits are normal suits (i.e. not black tie) so I would wear a cocktail dress.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 21/06/2019 09:56

Here you go! All & Other Stories and reasonably priced.

It looks good on you and I love Georgethebleeder’s accessory suggestions for making it a bit smarter and more stylish.

HellInAHandCartThatsWhat · 21/06/2019 11:03

I like it and it looks perfect for a wedding.

Bluntness100 · 21/06/2019 11:07

I also think it's fine. Clearly not with black tights. But bare legs, nude or silver heeled sandals, some nice bangles, good hair and make up and it will look fab.

optimisticpessimist01 · 21/06/2019 11:09

The dress looks lovely! I'd wear with bare legs and heels to dress it up a bit - the chunky sandals you plan on wearing sound lovely!

You can always dress it up with accessories, e.g. a few rings, bracelets, nice earrings, etc. Plus blow dryed hair (doesn't have to be professionally done) and makeup can massively dress up an outfit

If you like the dress then go for it!

perizadah · 21/06/2019 11:31

Great suggestions, thank you! Currently on holiday but will have to do a big shopping trip once I’m back and see how it looks with accessories.

Does anyone have suggestions for a reasonably priced cropped jacket to go over the top? I have tried the quiz ones mentioned earlier but they were very synthetic and don’t want to turn into a ball of sweat if it’s sunny!

@StCharlotte it’s all held on the same site with accommodation provided (v fancy!) so will have a chance to change into black tie for the evening

It's lovely, and of course you can formalise it with accessories, which you can keep on if the occasion dictates. At least you'll be left with a day dress that you can then wear to work, bbqs etc rather than something that will get left in the wardrobe.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 21/06/2019 11:51

Jackets ...

Here’s something cropped I think could be perfect. Otherwise, a longish blazer slung over your shoulders could also look good. Zara and Arket have a few that would work.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 21/06/2019 15:11

Here’s another, lighter blazer - though it’s hard to tell whether the colour would work or not with the dress.
