New fringe - HATE it.

I don’t think I did agree to getting a fringe. The hairdresser suggesting ‘doing something around my face’ and suggested a long side fringe. and I thought why not. She cut a short fringe. I nearly burst into tears in the salon but instead said thank you and ran out.

DH keeps saying it is ‘fine’ but in reality I look like his mother. I keep telling myself it is just hair and it will grow but..I have slow growing hair and I know I will not be able to manage this. It is already frizzy! I’ve been searching online for ways to hide a fringe and they suggest using bobby pins but my fringe is so short, I would look deranged.

Help!!!

Picture please so we can help 😊

SlipperOrchid · 16/06/2019 00:28

I can’t bear to even look in the mirror. No photo. It is short and frizzy and horrible. My children LAUGHED when they saw it and told me I looked it was the same fringe as friend of theirs has.....who is EIGHT YEARS OLD.

Is it french?

But I have to say I am a fan of a fringe, especially a short one.

koolaider · 16/06/2019 00:44

I have a short fringe. First time I thought oh no! But it's a big change. I love it now though.

nala15 · 16/06/2019 01:03

Use sliding pins to pin it back Smile
I feel your pain.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 17/06/2019 12:42

Would straightening it help?

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 17/06/2019 12:44

Well the weather hasn't been great so maybe a hat?

KirstyVal · 17/06/2019 12:56

I was in a similar situation however I only had myself to blame because I decided to cut the fringe in myself - lesson learnt!

And it was really short - like you, I could't even pin it back with bobby pins to begin with.

But...Once I had got over the horror (it looked AWFUL as you can imagine) I went out and bought lots of nice headbands.

Not alice bands but the other type! And actually, they quite in fashion at the moment and they are quite cute - without looking like a child. Think more boho, hipster.

You even have the tie headband scarfs that can look pretty awesome. Especially if you go for a low key one in a pretty colour.

Go out and purchase a few and they will completely cover up that fringe. Any stick out pieces you can tuck under.

Once your fringe is long enough to twist back, you can ditch the headbands for bobby pins.

Centre parting and twist the hair either side and pin.

Once the fringe is even longer - you can then start plaiting it to one side.

Next stage when it is even longer, you can get it shaped into more of a curtain fringe :-)

Don't worry, your hair may grow slowly but it will get there eventually. Just have to be patient now and perhaps get a little creative!

Ah yes, I know this trauma well. I got a fringe about five years ago thinking it would look thick and lustrous a la Zooey Deschanel.

No. I looked like someone who goes door to door trying to talk to people about sin and salvation.

I wrote notes to myself ‘NEVER BE TEMPTED TO GET A FRINGE EVER AGAIN’ (found one the other day Grin) so I’d never be seduced by fringey thoughts again.

I just did the sweeping across with a kirby grip thing. There’s nothing you can do except accept your current situation and wait it out stoically. Channel a bit of martyrdom and pretend you’re Joan of Arc.

New fringe - HATE it.
SlipperOrchid · 17/06/2019 14:33

I have tried to clip it back today using numerous clips. It is just too short. I am more upset about it today than I was initially as I have washed it and for some unknown reason I thought it would clip back after I washed it. It doesn’t :-(

I am not cool enough for headbands :-(

OP posts:
SlipperOrchid · 17/06/2019 14:36

PS I think that’s the problem is I’m not cool enough for headbands and if I was cool, the fringe might suit me a bit better. I wouldn’t look like Nellie Olsen :-(

I’m sorry for your trauma. But at least yours is a professional intervention. I’m currently rocking a short and straw-like fringe of regrowth of the hair that fell out after my daughter was born.

It’s hideous. If anyone knows of anything that will stick it down, please do tell.

managedmis · 17/06/2019 15:14

It'll grow

Sarcelle · 17/06/2019 15:21

Boudicca - could you try the toothbrush and hairspray trick? Buy a cheap firm toothbrush and flexible hold hairspray (Elnett in white can for instance). Spray brush with spray them brush down fringe.

Quintella · 17/06/2019 15:25

what about one of those very thin non-statement black plastic hairbands?

BoudicasBoudoir · 17/06/2019 16:00

Ooh, thank you, Sarcelle. I’ll try that

goose1964 · 17/06/2019 18:58

The last time I had a fringe it was cut to a normal length whilst it was wet. When it dried it curled up on itself so I had a row of tiny curls a la Betty Boop. I'm sure you look better than I did

ImperfectTents · 17/06/2019 20:00

Nellie Olsen! That is a strong look. Everyone has a fringe just style it out

ImperfectTents · 17/06/2019 20:01

Get a big satin bow?

New fringe - HATE it.
SlipperOrchid · 17/06/2019 20:46

It’s too shirt to style out. Products. I need products. Any suggestions anyone? I fear gel will make it look spikey Bros style.

My dn cut her own fringe. One side right off to her scalp! Half a fringe!! Thought sil was going to pass out!! Best thing ever!!

Deliheaven · 17/06/2019 20:56

I don’t understand how it can be so short that it won’t pin back. That’s not a fringe that a hairdresser would cut without you asking for it?! Not suggesting that you did of course it just seems so strange that it’s a short short fringe when she suggested a side fringe. Just how short is it? How far above eyebrows?

SlipperOrchid · 17/06/2019 21:19

Nope she didn't ask. Well.....she suggested a long side swept fringe to 'do something around my face'. Then cut it really short. And really thick. The bobby pins are not holding it back. I am using two. If I put any more in though I will look deranged surely? The length is half way between my hairline and eyebrow. She then suggested cutting it a bit shorter!!!!! To which I mumbled that it was already shorter than I thought it would be. When I was paying, the other hairstylists stared at it really oddly and then admired my coat!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Deliheaven · 17/06/2019 21:24

You need to complain. She suggested a long side fringe and then cut it halfway between your hairline and eyebrows?! That’s absolute madness

SolitudeAtAltitude · 17/06/2019 21:30

Complain! Cry down the phone

Then you get your money back at least!

A bad haircut is so bloody stressful

I prescribe watching the episode of Fleabag where the sister gets the bad haircut. I also prescribe a lovely Finish love interest to go with that Wink

As to practical solutions, straightening it will make it longer, and maybe those zigzag hairbands
