I said it was caused by the toner being left on too long and that it would wash out. 🤷🏻‍♀️
If your hair is very porous, it will naturally suck up colour. Your only option is to use a porosity equaliser before toning.

Mycat - that sounds waaaay too technical!!

If you live near Cheshire, could you possibly visit Catherine Boden, Jake Nugent or James Lear’s hair salons? I always see their work on my Instagram!

RuggyPeg · 15/06/2019 21:29

I've been to Catherine Boden.....

Not hear of the other 2 but will go have a look.

Oh really, were either of the ‘after’ photos done by Catherine boden?

RuggyPeg · 16/06/2019 07:53

Yep! The one where I've got a stripey top on and it says try again with pic. That's my photo tho, not hers. It's the day after I had it done.

Use purple shampoo at every wash to keep any brassy tones away, I have a warm brown root with blonde high and low lights and keep the highlights looking cool by using purple shampoo every wash which is probably 5 days a week.

But my hair is only shoulder length, it's very difficult to keep long hair a lighter colour permanently as you will always overlap colour when you are redoing it. Which will eventually make it snap off. Especially when you are changing colours.

It looks much better now though.

The thing that stands out to me is that you need to find one hairdresser you have some confidence in and give them the chance to get to know your hair by returning to them time and time again. I’ve always stuck to the same hairdresser over a period of years, like others have said you build up a rapport and you can work together to get the look you want. Everyone’s hair reacts differently to dye. I know they are experts but I think there’s probably some element of variability in how different hair will react with dye.

RuggyPeg · 16/06/2019 09:24

I do use purple shampoo and I'm trying desperately to stick to one hairdresser but I just need to find one with even a tiny bit of competence 😬 I had one but she moved. In hindsight, it would have been easier to sell my house and move with her than it is to find a replacement.

Sorry OP without wanting to kick you when you're down it's not good. It looks almost green.

I wouldn't start trying to sort it yourself why should you I bet you paid a fortune! Can you ask for your money back and go somewhere else.

It's such a pita isn't it I've only had to go back once and I was bloody mortified.

Greyhound22 · 16/06/2019 20:24

Sorry I've only just rtft. It does look much better now - well done!

loopylindasdaughter · 03/08/2019 22:00

@RuggyPeg what did you do to fix it? That looks amazing now... was it the t18? Off too google. Re the condition get yourself some olaplex

RuggyPeg · 04/08/2019 20:23

Not tried the t18 yet but I will eventually, once the condition improves a bit. I already use olaplex. I just washed it 5 times in a row and then every night until the awful grey tone was gone. I then just went back to using Fanola purple shampoo and leaving it alone. Not been back to any hairdressers since!
