Experience with Hyperpigmentation Clinic?

Hi ladies,

A few months ago I read a thread on here regarding treatment in Haley Street, at the HyperPigmentation Clinic with Dr Venitta Rattan. For some reason I cannot seem to find the post. I am thinking of booking with the clinic but I am finding it hard to see any independent reviews of their treatments. The only reviews I see are on their website. Their YouTube is closed for comments and there are no google reviews? It’s very expensive so I want someone with hands on experience who can tell me of their experience before I commit my money. Anyone who has used them or knows an actual person who has?

Hi,

Treatment did not work after all their promises.
It’s also difficult getting a refund as they quote that they do not make ‘promises’ or guarantees.

So glad I came across this thread as I was about to book in as I'm p. desperate at this point!
@alreadythere did you find anywhere else suitable instead?

OllyBJolly · 15/04/2020 10:47

Can I ask what kinds of treatments you were looking at?

themummyway · 15/04/2020 11:20

@ollybjolly was that a question for me?
I'm interested in hyperpigmentation-reducing treatments. I've got black skin and have used hydroquinone, AHAs and BHAs but am looking for something more long-term...

OllyBJolly · 15/04/2020 14:45

@themummyway I'm interested in anyone's experience because I have a couple of very dark age spots on my face and I'd love to remove them, or even lighten them. I've tried an assortment of creams that made no difference. I have very white skin (Scottish!)

I have seen laser treatments on youtube but I'd rather hear from real women who have actually tried it, not the clinics selling it.

themummyway · 15/04/2020 15:52

@OllyBJolly totally agree about hearing from real women!

Have your tried Murad's Rapid Age Spot stuff? Or Kiehl's Dark Spot Solution?

They seem to get rave reviews generally Smile

Hello! I’m a consutlant dermatologist in London and I just published a review article about the treatment of melasma and pigmentation in the journal of cosmetic derm. I have treated 100s of patients with pigmentation safely, effectively and it doesn’t cost a fortune. I would be weary of going to a highly marketed business like the clinic mentioned earlier in this thread. There is a lot of mis information on that website for starters and it’s very expensive. Pigmentation can be safely treated With simple and safe prescripton topicals and once clear it does need maintenance and active sun avoidance. And that’s it. No fancy lasers or in office peels required. People with pigmentation find it very distressing and it upsets me to see unscrupulous doctors taking advantage of that to make money.

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 07:21

Oh - I wouldn’t bother with cosmetic skin lightening creams. They won’t help and are just a waste of money.

AlreadyThere · 09/05/2020 08:43

Thanks @DrNataliaSpierings
Where can one find your article? Does your experience include treating pigmentation on the body (not face) for black women?

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 09:54

Hi! It was published in a medical journal but I can maybe email it to you? I have it as a pdf. I don’t think it’s open access online. It’s primarily about melasma. The article isn’t specifically about body pigmentation but yes I have treated body pigmentation in type 6 skin successfully.

Try either obagi or dermatica. I've had fantastic results with both. Dermatica is an online dermatologist service who post out prescription skincare after an online consultation. I think there's a bit of a wait at the minute though, as they've been inundated.

silver1977 · 09/05/2020 10:14

Another vote for Dermatica here.

I was interested in what @DrNataliaSpierings said and after clicking on the above link note she is from Dermatica so that makes sense!

I have used Obagi Nuderm range with excellent results. I can't afford it again so now use prescription from Dermatica of hydroquinone 4%/tretinoin 0.1% and obviously factor 50 sunscreen.

Don't waste money or time on anything else. I tried some sort of laser years ago in desperation before I found Obagi and it made it worse.

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 10:37

So I am no longer working for dermatica - but it is a great service and so much more cost effective than Obagi (imho all the cosmetic skincare products from Obagi are pointless - all you need is the hq and the tret).

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 10:39

I think it’s important so say that I don’t work for or am affiliated with dermatica in any way - I don’t have a financial or other conflict if interest in saying it offers a good, cost effective service. I have no financial ties to dermatica at all.

cricketmum84 · 09/05/2020 10:43

I get horrendous Melasma across my forehead every summer. I've been told the only thing to reduce it is to stay out of the sun. High SPF face cream and a wide brimmed hat. We are only in May and I'm already patchy :(

silver1977 · 09/05/2020 14:35

Try hydroquinone and tretinoin @cricketmum84 as well as factor 50 everyday and the hat of course.

Like DrNataliaSpierings says they're the only products you need from the Obagi range. You do need a prescription tho which is why Dermatica is good.

I've recently added a vitamin c serum to my routine too, I've heard it's meant to help.

cricketmum84 · 09/05/2020 15:15

I'll look into them thanks @silver1977. I've also added a vitamin c serum in. Not cheap but hopeful it might help.

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 15:30

Unfortunately topical vitamin c is not effective at treating melasma but it is very expensive. Yes sun can trigger melasma as you have found but it is treatable and then clearance maintained despite change in season - at least for my patients. Try dermatica

cricketmum84 · 09/05/2020 15:37

@DrNataliaSpierings what are your thoughts on a link between the contraceptive pill and Melasma? I've read a few things that indicate a link between the increase in hormones and pigmentation?

DrNataliaSpierings · 09/05/2020 15:50

So no one knows 100% what brings on melasma but hormonal changes are absolutely one of the reasons. I have a lot of patients who feel their melasma was triggered by the combined pill.

silver1977 · 09/05/2020 17:08

I think mine was too and pregnancy made it even worse. I have come off the pill, I'm too scared to make it worse again!

@DrNataliaSpierings have you heard if Tranexamic Acid is worth taking for pigmentation?
