So, what has been 'IN' this summer in the UK?

It won't be that long before the summer stock is in the shops here in Australia. For once I would like to be in the forefront ... instead of getting stuff 2 years too late when it is going out again.
So, what has been in for the summer?
Skirts? Dresses? Minis? Leggings? Skinnies? Floaty tops over jeans? WHAT???

Those style conscious MNers please share ...

TIA xxx

PS am an easyish shape to work with - size 10ish but can't be doing with very low rise trousers that show bum cracks. I thank you.

Wellies and pack-a-mac

robinpud · 23/07/2007 05:40

Ghosty- I have been thinking about this as am due back home at xmas. Have sent you a piccy by email of some stuff a friend says is really in.

arfishy · 23/07/2007 06:07

Oooh great idea Ghosty. In the overpriced UK OK and Hello magazines I can't seem to stop myself buying there seem to be a lot of Maxi dresses. Hang on -

OK, according to Heat:

Brights, ruffles, pucci, maxi dresses, print macs.

Take a look at asos.com and next.co.uk to see what's in too.

I'm also showing great flair and cunning by buying friends children seasonally correct clothes for the UK Christmas now they're all reduced by 75%.

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 06:10

so do I arfishy - love it when friend's have babes as I am always able to buy them something for now - usually something little then a fab outfit for the next season at great prices.

pardon my ignorance - Maxi dress?!?!?

don't do ruffles, brights not really me either

will have to look.

ahh I get it now. bit slow on the uptake sometimes me!

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 06:21

if you are not a dress kind of woman - what is out there for you.

arfishy · 23/07/2007 06:35

Not dress? Hmm. Let me investigate.

Well, the other Heat magazine I have has a couple of full page spreads on maxi dresses, and then there's stripes and high waisted trousers. And Jessica Simpson not pulling off wearing a pair. It doesn't look good for non-dress wearers......

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 06:42

guess I am going to have to invest in a kaftan or two thought floaty wide legged trousers with simple blouse/shirt, usual 3/4 length trousers for everyday wear and some tops to go with that.

sibble · 23/07/2007 06:45

blimey, listen to you going all trendy on us.........my new addition to the wardrobe - gum boots covered in bright pink roses $9 warehouse sale - steady on - I know nearly worth coming back for did get me some looks at the farmers market sunday morning and soccer on saturday morning though

sibble · 23/07/2007 06:49

think these are 'in' this year

www.skellerup.co.nz/gumboots.html

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 06:50

perhaps I better scuttle off to M and S site from some clothing inspiration

arfishy · 23/07/2007 07:07

Sounds perfect! If feeling fat I will go with the Kaftan look. If not, the trousers [not high waisted].

Will definitely not be going for the Pucci brights. Or ruffles.

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 07:45

not big on high waisted but do prefer them on my waist not my hips. Will see what is out and about and then drag out the old faithfuls!!

GryffindorGHOSTY · 23/07/2007 07:58

sibble, don't forget I live in melbourne now daaaarlink ... you may get away with gumboots in Auckland but not here schweetie ...

booked your shopping trip to melb yet? he he he

Anyhoo ... Maxi dresses hey? Like it. I akcherly have a FABULOUS kaftan in my wardrobe that my mother bought in 1971 ... I knew it would come in handy one day .

SueW ... love your link ...
I can do dresses ... love dresses ...

And what on feet pray tell? (forget gumboots and crocs)

Robinpud .... ROFLMAO
Very very funny ...

Over my dead body ...

GryffindorGHOSTY · 23/07/2007 08:17

And the length of these dresses ... any length will do or is there a preferred hem length?
I have nice legs with tights on but couldn't go 'mini' with bare legs ... eeeewww, nooo ... deffo not. Something about bare knees when one is over 35 don't you think?

Cheers Sibble for the Skellerup link was just saying to my sister today that I plan to get a pair of red bands. A good tough gumboot, sadly very lacking in style... but after buying a gumboots at No. 1 shoes that split 2 weeks later I feel the farmy chick look is the trade off for not having to buy a new pair every month. Will get the ankle red bands.

The super-mini, tunic dress with leggings has been the hit of the summer. Maxi dresses were talked up a lot, but have not really made an imapact on the street. It's been all about the dress though.
Wedge heels have been big. Huge bags.
Ballet slippers have continued as have skinny jeans with tunic tops over the top.
"Boyfriend" jeans also got a lot of coverage in the press, but everyone clung to their skinnys and pretty much ignored that trend.
