Is this outfit ok? (Photos)

Could you let me know if this outfit looks ok for an interview please?

The jacket and trousers aren't from the same set but I don't think it's obvious

I'm not sure if the orange and navy blue look ok (I think so)

Should I lose the belt?

Are the shoes too bold/inappropriate due to sling back?

It's a fairly senior job at a fashion company (the role isn't anything to do with fashion though!)

Thanks Smile

I’ve figured out better what I mean - it looks safe, conservative and casual / corporate (bit dress down Friday). I would opt for something with more flair.

Crackery · 01/06/2019 08:00

Lovely! Belt and shoes look great.

Jojoanna · 01/06/2019 08:00

You look great OP

MsMustDoBetter · 01/06/2019 08:04

Gorgeous! Good luck!

Bumpdebump · 01/06/2019 08:05

I suggested a white shirt/blouse but actually I'd go for a creamy shade which would work with tan and navy.

Senior people in my (non fashion) office might wear cropped trousers, a blazer and t-shirt on casual Friday but it absolutely wouldn't cut it for an interview. Not smart enough as is.

DameSquashalot · 01/06/2019 08:07

I also thought the trousers were jeans which is why I think it looks casual.

DurhamDurham · 01/06/2019 08:13

I love the outfit, I wouldn't wear a belt but it looks good on you. I like the navy and orange together, looks very well put together.
I'm not so keen on the shoes but I think that's because they remind me of Theresa May's shoes Grin

workwearnamechange · 01/06/2019 08:14

Gosh thank you for all feedback although I'm now a bit confused about what to do!

The trousers aren't jeans, photo attached is a clearer picture of the trousers but mine are navy blue, not black.

Does that change the opinion of anyone who thinks it's too casual?! 😩

Not keen on wearing a shirt with a trouser and jacket combo, just personal preference.

I think it looks fine. I interviewed this week and all the candidates were only standing for a very short moment before they sat down and you could only see them from the waist up. So I'd focus on your top half. Neat hair and subtle makeup.

Also if at all possible do not come in trailing bags, an overcoat, umbrella etc.

workwearnamechange · 01/06/2019 08:17

Theresa May's shoes GrinGrin

I think you look very classy OP. Good luck!

DurhamDurham · 01/06/2019 08:18

Good luck with your interview, take the comments you agree with and ignore the rest, as long as you feel comfortable and confident it will shine through at the interview Thanks

Hammondisback · 01/06/2019 08:18

I think you look great. Smart, cool, comfortable and with personality. Good luck for the interview Flowers

Fairylea · 01/06/2019 08:19

Trousers look much better in the link. Star

TapasForTwo · 01/06/2019 08:25

I thought they were jeans as well. I think it is the belt that made me think that, so maybe lose the belt. Good luck.

Rystall · 01/06/2019 08:28

Best of luck OP! You look great.

Just one point. It may just be the way the light is shining on the jacket but it doesn’t look very ‘sharp’. It might need to be pressed and a lint roller run over it. Apologies if that’s just my dodgy eyesight!!

workwearnamechange · 01/06/2019 08:35

@Rystall you're absolutely right, it needs to be pressed and de-Labrador'ed! Grin

I work in a similar industry and think you've got it spot on, definitely keep the shoes. Ultra corporate looking with a blouse etc I don't think would be the right look.

The only change I'd make would be to wear a long pendant necklace in gold, M&S usually have some nice ones.

Best of luck!

Atalune · 01/06/2019 09:05

I like it and expect the trousers look smarter in the flesh.

The top worries me as I get sweaty in interviews and so I would have taken my jacket off and the most probably have big sweaty patches on the top!!! My worst nightmare.

Dippypippy1980 · 01/06/2019 09:19

I hold interviews regularly and to be honest as long as someone is neat and not obviously wearing really inappropriate clothing I never notice or remember what everyone wore.

Yes, in the photos the trousers look a bit like jeans - but u less it’s s very conservative industry I think they will be fine. I would be surprised is anyone in the fashion industry had an issue with this outfit. Depends how senior the role is. £100kplus you might want to rethink the trouser (not to a skirt, just to something a bit more formal).

Shoes perfect restless of how senior the post is - very Teresa may!,

birdonawire1 · 01/06/2019 09:41

I would wear plain shoes, unless it's something to do with the fashion or style industry. Otherwise looks great

TSSDNCOP · 01/06/2019 09:46

Have you managed to work something in from the fashion companies own brand? In my own experience they like that (stress not top to toe!)

Dippypippy1980 · 01/06/2019 09:49

OP remember that the people here are probably not representative of the panel who will be interviewing you.

A senior post in a fashion company - therefore I assume you will be their financial manager or hr or something. But you will still be managed and working along side creative types.

There is a myth on here that all people people dress for work in a very harsh corporate style - which in my experience is really only true in the legal profession and the big five accountancy firms.

Unless hey are trainers or outlandish hooker heels, in my experience shoes don’t matter (I have a senior post in finance). For an interview be smart, industry appropriate, comfortable and yourself.

wisewomanmummy · 01/06/2019 09:53

I think you look just right!

TapasForTwo · 01/06/2019 09:54

Dippy I think there is a difference between what people actually wear to work and interview outfits. We can wear smart jeans in the office, but anyone turning up for an interview in jeans would be judged negatively.
