Ah ok if you’re a scientist, what you wear might be less of an issue. All the best!

BusterGonad · 13/05/2019 09:39

I wish I was a scientist so I could wear jeans to an interview! Grin

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 13/05/2019 09:42

Ok, I'm out the house. Black Jeans with blue jacket. Shirt in or out?

Personally I’d go shirt tucked in, and jacket open.

starbrightnight · 13/05/2019 11:08

Op, you're a scientist. You should have said. A scientist can get away with all sorts of oddball clothing choices less sartorially stylish choices than the rest of us. Good luck!

BikeRunSki · 13/05/2019 11:40

Really? @starbrightnight. I’ll bear that in mind next time I go to an interview.

Good luck OP

TapasForTwo · 13/05/2019 14:36

How did the interview go?

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 15:34

I don't know... they asked questions I have was absolutely not expecting and ones I had no clue about. I babbled. Hey ho. We'll see. At least they know me from before so if I totally fucked up they might write it off to a bad day???

Good luck!

GeorgeTheBleeder · 13/05/2019 15:52

OP did you feel that not wearing the cardigan had any positive influence on how you performed or were perceived - or not?

I’m just curious because we were all (without any but spontaneous collusion) so very anxious that you should not wear it. Was the MN verdict ‘right’ or would it not have mattered? (Or might you even have been happier cardigan-ed? Shock)

mycatisblack · 13/05/2019 18:34

Fingers crossed for you OP.
I think whether your outfit is a critical element of the interview process depends on the type of working environment you were applying to.
I used to work in HE and providing the clothes were clean and you weren't smelly, I wouldn't generally give a toss what you were wearing. I'd be only interested in how you responded to the questions asked and the tests we set.
Too many candidates were fond of style over substance and I wanted staff who were competent grafters and reliable.

ShopoholicIn · 13/05/2019 20:39

Hope you get the job op fingers crossed

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 21:30

I don't know! I certainly felt awkward. The guy conducting the interview was wearing jeans and a shirt with open collar and his boss jeans, shirt with open collar and a hideous jumper. Would have felt more relaxed, probably.

I did go into a department store to see if I could find a black jacket. A very lovely woman came to ask if I needed help and, after taking me to the window to look at me in day light, sent me packing saying I looked perfectly fine and didn't need to buy anything!

I hope you get the job op and if you're meant to get it I don't think it matters one jot what you wore x
