You could always buy a blazer, pop it on right before you go in & return it? Or can you afford to buy a dress? You don't have to adore it, just look smart. H&M is brimming with smart office dresses in my city. You're a great shape & lots of things will look fab on you.

When is the interview?

Definitely agree with the "dress for the job you WANT" mantra.

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 08:54

More I'm unfashionable and it never occurred to me jeans not ok. I've a dark blue jacket but the matching trousers don't fit.

Bit tight, but as long as I don't breathe... but I thought you couldn't wear black with blue?? If I leave in 20 I'll have 30 mins in a shop, but can't justify major expense!

Blazer is much smarter. I would run for a basic pair of navy trousers and swap blouse for plain top.

wildhairdontcare · 13/05/2019 09:00

No need to button up blazer either.

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 13/05/2019 09:01

Is your interview today, OP? There’s a great charity called smart works that kits women out for interviews. They’re in 6 locations around the country. Google them and see if they’re near you.

TapasForTwo · 13/05/2019 09:01

I agree with "George*, and hope I didn't come across as rude, but jeans for an interview for an office job are a no-no.

What do you own that isn't jeans?

HarryRug · 13/05/2019 09:03

First appearances count. When I interview I look at how the person has chosen to present themselves to me and always ask what preparation they did for the interview. If they cannot be bothered to look smartly dressed and have not spent time properly preparing they stand no chance of securing the position. Professional attire gives the impression of a professional person. Someone turning up in jeans gives the impression they have have made no effort which suggests lazy, it also shows a lack of judgment neither of which are qualities I look for in an employee. A dress or black trousers and a blouse are appropriate if you cannot get hold of a suit. Good luck.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 13/05/2019 09:04

Your jacket is perfect.

You could pick up a plain white vest in M&S for less than £10. But you’d still be better off with trousers/skirt/dress under the jacket.

Good luck with the interview!

IfNotNow1 · 13/05/2019 09:09

I thought you didn't have a jacket! ?
The second blazer, not done up.

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 09:10

What do you own that isn't jeans?
Shorts and a beach skirt 😂

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 09:12

Ok, so leave now in black jeans, shirt and blue blazer.
Look for a black blazer or blue trousers?
Fuck up interview.
Sound like a plan?

I thought you didn't have a jacket!

Those are pre DC clothes I thought wouldn't fit. But I tried and can (just) squeeze in to the blazers. Matching other half, no chance!

ChippyMinton · 13/05/2019 09:14

The second jacket looks great. Leave undone.
Assume you are not working at present, as have no suitable clothes. If your CV reflects this I would not be judging, but would appreciate that you have made the effort to be neat and clean, so make sure clothes are clean and pressed and shoes polished.

TapasForTwo · 13/05/2019 09:15

Good luck

ChippyMinton · 13/05/2019 09:16

And good luck!

RussellSprout · 13/05/2019 09:16

If you can afford it get a cheap jacket from Asda for £20 or so... It may be a worthwhile investment.

I do think you could smarten up a bit more for an office interview. Yes, you may get away with wearing that outfit once you are working there but it could come across like you haven't made enough effort for interview.

IfNotNow1 · 13/05/2019 09:16

Good luck!!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 13/05/2019 09:22

If the interview is this morning then wear the black jeans and blazer.

As long as you look clean and tidy and presentable it’ll be fine, unless you’re going for an interview at a fashion house what you are wearing doesn’t really matter. Good luck!

GeorgeTheBleeder · 13/05/2019 09:24

The lower half doesn’t need to be the same colour. You just need to look reasonably put together and smart.

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 09:24

God no! I'm a scientist!

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 13/05/2019 09:28

I am a little surprised you didn’t consider what to wear before having to leave shortly for the interview! I hope you have prepped well for it.
Agree on black jeans and blue jacket, undone is fine
Good luck! Hope it goes well.

TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 09:29

Ok, I'm out the house. Black Jeans with blue jacket. Shirt in or out?

OP posts:
TheThievingDIL · 13/05/2019 09:31

I did. Just didn't realise until about 8:10 that blue jeans were a no-go.

Good luck OP - I think we have a similar wardrobe collection/ idea of interview attire Smile
