Talk to me about the babylis big hair

I'm a bit confused. Trying to decide if it's worth buying.

I know 99% of people on here who have one love it but I don't see why? What is it that is so special?

More importantly, do you think I'd benefit? I like swooshy hair but wash it as little as possible. I find my centre part fringe difficult to style. I'm not very good at using tools or doing my hair.

It's quite expensive to buy on the off chance.

I've thick, coloured hair that is just below my shoulders and a fringe. This sounds rediculous but I'm not actually sure if it's staightish or curly (I've never done curly girl. If I leave it air dry it's very wavey with some ringers. If I scrunch it in the shower, it's very curly but if I blow dry it, it goes reasonably straight but will start to get waves and the ends flick up).

I have one which I’ve used very little, it’s been unused in a cupboard for a year or two now.

I have thick hair which is just past shoulder length and find that I’ve had to dry it off quite a lot before using the Big Hair. I’m not keen on the finished result either but that’s just me, I think that it makes my hair look frumpy.

Baxdream · 11/05/2019 10:38

It's great. I've got fine, thin wavy hair. However they don't last long. I'm on my second one and it rotates so slowly as it's clearly got hair stuck
I'm saving for an Airwrap

TalkingOrmer · 11/05/2019 11:21

I have thick hair and found that it didn’t help in any way and like PP my hair looked a bit frumpy.

MyFavouritePlace · 11/05/2019 11:29

I didn't get on with it. Pulled out too many hairs and generally created a slightly straighter but still a bit frizzy. Binned mine after a couple of years. Must admit I wasn't a regular user and I did want to like it.

autumnleaves15 · 11/05/2019 12:38

I bought one after reading loads of reviews and watching YouTube tutorials. I just don't enjoy using it at all.

My hair is quite thick and waist length with layers. It does leave it straight with flicked out, semi curled ends and a bit of volume but it takes so long to do it. About 20 minutes with a normal hairdryer to prep it to 90% dry then easily another half hour of the babyliss dryer brush to finish it off. It doesn't really dry my hair.

Whilst it sits nice I can get the same finish quicker with my normal hairdryer and a round brush in half the time.

Might be more suited to people with finer and shorter hair who could use it as a replacement for their normal hairdryer. (Or those who don't mind spending an hour on their hair every time they wash it).

Answeringonlyyesorno · 11/05/2019 12:54

I love mine! I have thick wavy curly hair and I use this as it's far less damaging than straighteners. I get a full on bouncy blow dry from it. I can see where the frump could come from, I find if I go round the front with straighteners it sorts that out. I've had many compliments about my hair since using it and no longer get blow drys from the hairdresser as I can do it at home. It gives my frizzy mane a far more polished look. But I understand that might not suit some people, as young fashion looks like 'hair that's not been done look'. BH makes my hair look 'done' but that suits me.

CarolDanvers · 11/05/2019 12:58

It's great. Of the many hair appliances I have purchased over the years it's the only one I use consistently apart from my basic hair dryer. I would replace it if it wore out. I blow dry my hair till damp then use the big hair and it's fab and gives loads of swish and bounce. I would highly recommend.

Imfinehowareyou · 11/05/2019 12:59

I love mine. I have zero hair styling skills but can use this easily. However, my hair is really fine so very different to yours. If you do get one my tip is to use the slower speed as it's easier to handle.

ValleyoftheHorses · 11/05/2019 12:59

Love mine but have chin length, fine hair. I struggled to get it looking nice with hairdryer and brush - now if I spend the time it can look like I’ve had a blow dry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/05/2019 14:53

I like mine although only use it for very occasional nights out. That's because I'm lazy though. It's really easy to use.

I don’t like it for my thin, long hair. My friend has a full fringe and loves hers for that.

It’s more of a “finisher” when your hair is at least 80% dry.

ajandjjmum · 11/05/2019 15:00

I didn't like it - gave it away.

Love my Dyson hairdryer - interesting that you find the air wrap good Strawberry.

Jacksback · 11/05/2019 16:11

Love mine , makes my fine hair to a swishy bob , looks like been to hairdressers
It does take some getting used to but I rough blow to 80 % dry then finish with this . I would replace it if it broke

JustCallMeSliths · 11/05/2019 16:28

Thanks all. Not sure it's for me as by the time my hair is 80/90% dry, I've done most of the hard work! 😊
Plus it sounds like it might not be the best thing for my thick hair

Love mine. have just past the shoulders long hair. I dry my roots with normal hairdryer first then finish off with babyliss. Leaves my hair swishy and soft.

nancy75 · 11/05/2019 16:44

Mine is gathering dust alongside all the other hair torture instruments I have bought over the years. It left me with a big fuzzy mess, I can do better with a brush and a hairdryer. I certainly couldn’t dry my hair with it, I would be there for weeks - it’s not strong or hot enough

DreamingofSunshine · 11/05/2019 16:56

The airwrap is so much better than the big hair, but far more expensive.

changedforlife · 11/05/2019 21:48

Loved it but it completely ruined my hair.

JustCallMeSliths · 11/05/2019 22:03

@changedforlife how so?

I've just given mine to my DD who declared it as useless as I thought it was.

It gave my hair a lovely polished look that dropped in around 30 minutes no matter what I sprayed or used in my hair. I've got shoulder length fine hair with lots of layers.

Waste of time and effort, and it's a bitch to untangle your hair out if it gets caught.

Wineinateacupnosaucer · 11/05/2019 22:08

Only used mine a handful of times. I’m another with thick hair, so it seems to take ages. Does make it look more finished when you take the time to use it but I never have the time

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/05/2019 22:17

I bought one for my DD ( long fairly thick hair ) she hated it .

I don't even own a hairdryer but I decided to give this a try when I was growing my hair out (I've gone from pixie to collar length)

I do wait till my hair is 90% dry and I find the hair gets wrapped round but I've changed the barrrel to the bigger size now.

It makes my hair look groomed but I don't have the skilll or inclination to get my hair looking like a salon blow dry.

I wouldn't buy it again but I quite like it as I have it.

changedforlife · 11/05/2019 23:11

My hair started snapping and the front bits are now about an inch long. 😭 I do have highlights in though (prone to breaking) however since I've stopped using it my hair is in much better condition. I've recently bought a decent hair dryer from Sally's (not expensive) and spend ages blow drying which lasts about 5 days. Hair seems happier.

Celticrose · 11/05/2019 23:53

I love my big hair. It gives my hair some body which I am unable to do myself with a hairdryer and brush. I have actually 3 of them but different sizes. Started with the 50mm and now use the 32mm
