i know i am being very nosey, but i am getting married in october and the dress i want to get isnt a 'traditional' colour.

it wouldnt bother me,but for the fact im a bit superstitious and know that its meant to be unlucky to get married in certain colours

so what colour did you marry in,and do you feel it had an impact on the-erm-'outcome' of the marriage?

I got married in black and white
I designed my dress and that of my bridesmaid

You must wear whatever you want to - remember it's your day
Congrats Diva - can't wait to see the pics after October!

diva, wear exactly what you want! it sounds really lovely and just right.

just looked it up on wikpedia and its just a western thing, and brides used to wear an evening gown they could wear again.

your dp likes it, thats brilliant anyway. my dp likes my dress too, but has hinted that as long as the wedding underwear is great, he is happy

ChudleyMintonCanons · 17/07/2007 23:01

a cream wool two piece suit with embroidery. I was quite lumpy myself after two DC so something substantial and lined was required to smooth over the blobby bits And it was February so a flimsy frock was no good. And i wore boots, not shoes.

TransfiguratingLily · 18/07/2007 07:59

Loved the tartan dress link! Gorgeous! That would suit my sis perfectly...she's getting married in scotland, too dear though, and wool...might be itchy.

Diva my sister tried on a gorgeous dress in tkmax and it was perfect on her, she looked amazing in it, but it was black and cream and she couldn't bring herself to get married in black. We are hoping to get her a dress on friday. She thinks white/cream washes her out. But she wants something special and weddingy that suits her. It's tricky. Hoping to see a dress on her and just know it's the right one....

I got married in cream/ antique lace first time...marriage lasted one year, next time I got married in a red and gold Shalwar Kamiz. Don't wish myself dead so rhyme must be wrong

I don't think colour matters if you love the dress and feel great in it. How about wearing something in a different colour for the vows bit (so you don't curse them), then change into sexy witch dress.

bratnav · 18/07/2007 08:02

Got married in an ivory shift dress with a matching lace jacket. My mum insisted on white (or near it) even though I was 7 months pg I looked a right pillock!

Er, now divorced, so don't think it matters about the colour

TaLcYo · 18/07/2007 08:05

I wore red
the bridesmaids wore ivory.
It was a christmas wedding.

Mossy · 18/07/2007 08:28

Well you know my thoughts!!

yaddayah · 18/07/2007 14:51

Caramel coloured 40's skirt suit (very fitted)with two tone platform shoes: ahh those were the days

Suppose its brown but live in the country now !

TenaLady · 18/07/2007 14:53

I was in gold silk. Not on the list, closest could be brown and I am definately not in Town.

divastrop · 18/07/2007 22:49

i hadnt even thought about underwear.i suppose i will have to get a dress first then try and find a bra that makes my norks look pert(better ring the local scaffolding company then).

lily-i couldnt afford two outfits!plus, i dont think i could be bothered getting changed.i am half irish and quite pale and i do look ill in white/cream.

oh feck-when do babies stop puking milk?!i am always covered in white marks by the end of the day atm,i cant remember when that stops.

I wore white Levis jeans-the marriage lasted 18 months but i am still wearing my wedding outfit 10 years later!

good luck with which ever colour you wear

TransfiguratingLily · 19/07/2007 10:42

You need ebay!

SpongebobControlpants · 19/07/2007 11:14

First time - gold-ish/ivory-ish dress made by a friend, with wine red velvet wrap. He buggered off a year later.

Second time - brown silk Monsoon bridesmaid's dress (is much nicer than it sounds) gorgeous and lustrous.

As lots of others have said - sod the 'proper' thing to do, and enjoy your day!

divastrop · 19/07/2007 15:03

lily-do you get the body to go with it?i need straps,or they will escape and go on the rampage.

got married in Ivory, but it had pink stargazers lilies handpainted on it. It is on this page I absolutely loved it, was a nice combo of traditional and unconventional.

Bridesmaids wore green. Only been married 2.5 years so not sure if the green which was so prevalent throughout the day (colour scheme was green and pink, we got married at a place called the Green Cathedral etc etc) will have any impact on the marriage ... hmm. But I say wear what you want - and what suits you best.

CarGirl · 19/07/2007 21:51

I did wear green, it is very much my colour (red hair, cream skin) I was told that I looked stunning and I would not have been happy getting married in church in white/ivory as we already lived together and am certainly no blushing bride with 4 dc!

SpawnHorcrux · 19/07/2007 22:00

Red - it was a November evening in Edinburgh, and red seemed more appropriate for that. So far (6 years on) all is fine and dandy

elasticsortinghatstand · 19/07/2007 22:04

cream and green, designed by yours truly to match bridesmaid (dd) and page (ds) with kilt

TransfiguratingLily · 20/07/2007 08:08

My sisters weren't impressed by the tartan wedding dress. Hee hee, I thought it was great.
Loved the hand painted lily dress, Gorgeous!
There are some lovely chinese wedding dresses on ebay, bit different like
here

devonsmummy · 20/07/2007 08:24

1st marriage wore ivory with deep red roses (it was cheap & i was skint)lasted 2 years.
this time round went full on burgundy- bodice & full skirt - married on 21st December so nice and christmassy -coming to year 5. Wear what makes you happy - it's your day

chopster · 20/07/2007 08:27

lilac,a nd I got divorced. DOn't think it was anything to do with the dress though! I was pg so white didn't seem appropriate.

slinkyjo · 20/07/2007 08:30

red and got divorced 7 years later lol

FlameDelacour · 20/07/2007 08:31

Mine was goldish cream (sparkly cream as my friend put it!!)

Will find a pic...

ZZMum · 20/07/2007 08:32

I was married in a scarlet red floor length velvet dress with a matching wrap... I loved it and got loads of positive feedback from people about how nice it was not to see bride in white sleeveless corset and skirt meringue.. mind you had I worn that am sure everyone wouldhave equally nice.. I was happier in a non traditional dress and that is what matters most and fWIW I have never once wished myself dead!
