How often do you wash your hair?

I’ve got into a dreadful loop of having to wash every day, unless I use dry shampoo on day 2. I actually prefer my hair on day 2, with the texture the dry shampoo brings, but I miss the “freshly washed” shine. I’m currently on “day 3” and as I used dry shampoo yesterday my hair doesn’t look at all greasy. Contemplating just giving it another quick dry shampoo blast and blow dry - but feel a bit ‘ming’!

Thoughts?

twice a week.
however I rinse it with water in the shower every day.

AlphaJura · 04/05/2019 07:34

About once a week to 10 days. I've got dry hair that never gets greasy.

codenameduchess · 04/05/2019 07:48

Every 7-12 days... follow the curly girl method so washing isn't really needed that often, I think mine looks a lot better after a refresh (spray with water and add some leave in)

Washing every day seems a big commitment!

RiversDisguise · 04/05/2019 07:49

I have to do it every day as I run or do other exercise virtually every day. Dry shampoo just doesn't work with my hair.

snowone · 04/05/2019 07:50

I used to wash every other day but my hair was just getting greasier and greasier. I had to do a bit of training by leaving it longer and using dry shampoo, now I wash it maybe twice a week!

LadyKylieShagworthy · 04/05/2019 07:51

Every 3/4 days. My hair is thick and quite dry and always looks better on shampoo day +1.

ThursdayLastWeek · 04/05/2019 07:51

I wash mine about 5 times a week in average - I wish I didn’t have to but I sweat so much when I exercise that I would smell if I didn’t.

If your hair doesn’t look greasy then go for it. I would probably have to wear it up on day three TBH but you know your hair!

Ocies · 04/05/2019 07:54

Every day

whitehalleve · 04/05/2019 08:13

If I haven't worked out then every other day. My hair looks best the day after it's washed.

RussellSprout · 04/05/2019 08:18

I have an itchy scalp and it gets greasy quickly so every couple of days which is a pain as then I need to style it.

I envy those who can go longer

Blankspace4 · 04/05/2019 08:19

@snowone your comment about ‘training’ your hair is interesting. That’s what I’m trying to do - wean off the daily washing (which IS a big commitment as it’s fairly long and thick) but just wonder if the dry shampoo residue is going to build up or make things worse in the long run

Every day. I can leave it two days but by the evening of the second day it feels all greasy and horrible.

A colleague uses dry shampoo and it just makes her hair look dusty.

ElspethFlashman · 04/05/2019 08:24

If it weren't for the existence of dry shampoo it would have to be 365 days a year. I have always had super greasy hair, which is tedious as I'm not oily in any other way.

But I absolutely refuse to wash my hair 365 days a year! Ain't nobody got time for that! (Besides, my ends would be destroyed)

So now I do dry shampoo on Day 2 and often, just like you, I find I wake up on Day 3 and I don't need anything at all. But then I'll wash it on Day 4.

Theoretically you could give it a second blast of dry shampoo and keep going longer and I've succumbed to temptation in the past and done that, but I find it does start to get dull and tends to get matted.

madmother1 · 04/05/2019 08:25

Once a week here. It's taken me a few years to train it. I used to dry shampoo everyday, but only use that now, on day 5 or 6. It's freed up a lot of time

Roomba · 04/05/2019 08:28

Wash it daily for 30+ years and it was greasy before the day was out. After having DS2 and only getting time to wash it every 2 or 3 days, it became far less greasy. So now it's every 3 days unless I've been doing anything particularly sweaty/dirty.

brownbeauty · 04/05/2019 08:29

Weekly on a Friday afternoon
Dried naturally
Left alone in it's frizzy state till Saturday afternoon when I straighten it
It has taken me about 15 years to get to this stage of weekly washing and I absolutely love the freedom
My husband knows not to arrange anything that involves going out further then the local chippy on this day

dudsville · 04/05/2019 08:29

How often you should wash depends on so many things so responses here will vary.

ElspethFlashman · 04/05/2019 08:29

I will say that there are a lot of variations just in the Baptiste line and some are more matte than others. It's trial and error to see what still looks natural. Some make your hair just look like a cheap wig, but some are nicer.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 04/05/2019 08:30

Every day. My hair is dry and curly, but I like the nice shampooed smell (rather than my hair smelling of whatever I've been exposed to) and I like my scalp to feel clean.

Nogodsnomasters · 04/05/2019 08:32

I have thin, limp, greasy hair. I wash my hair 5 times a week and the other 2 days are dry shampoo days. I did try to train my hair like others have said but I couldn't stick it out as I hate for other people to look at me and think god she's greasy, as kids in high school used to tease me for this!

thedevilinablackdress · 04/05/2019 08:32

Dry shampoo doesn't have to look dusty. Brush it through!

QueenofLouisiana · 04/05/2019 08:34

Once a week. I’ve left it 8 days up to today and it’s just starting to need a wash. I’m trying to cut down on detergent use generally.

NoYo · 04/05/2019 08:34

Wash mine every 2 days, however sometimes I'll leave it for 3 days, use dry shampoo and put it in a bun.
I hate drying my hair, it's thick and tends to be very dry thanks to perimenopause.

vdbfamily · 04/05/2019 08:35

Once a week. Very thick and takes forever to dry so washed every weekend.

CountFosco · 04/05/2019 08:43

Every day. I swim every day before work, have a pixie and don't dye my hair (so it's in good condition). Putting a bit of shampoo in already wet hair is not a lot of work.
