Are these nice or hideous??

So I have quite bad bunions, and also sweaty feet (I am quite a catch, honestly!😂)

These shoes appear to be the answer to my prayers! They hide/help straighten my hideous bunions and are open aired and also appear to be supportive. But my question is do they look odd?? Do they look exactly like I'm trying to hide a bunion???

They are £16 if that makes any difference. On eBay.

Your feet look fine honestly, no need to hide them at all Smile
Have a look at saltwater sandals, they are quite wide and the straps hide your feet quite well if you're self conscious

AudacityOfHope · 28/04/2019 22:22

And there was me thinking the OP had asked for opinions
@DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Confused

Bellsandwhistle · 28/04/2019 22:36

Wow op some people are harsh!! Def not nhs shoes!! Or frizzy haired geography teacher. Perfectly fine sandal. Not one that would have me asking where you got them but def wouldn’t think negatively of them. Also your feet are perfectly fine too and with a bright nail polish you’d hardly notice your bunions. I’ve friends with a lot worse. The Birkenstock’s linked are also perfectly fine.

DeftandGlory · 28/04/2019 22:54

Your feet look better than mine after my bunion Op. a Seriously nothing to worry about.
Wear anything.

Ohyesiam · 28/04/2019 23:02

These Birkenstock’s work with bunions because they cover the bit where the bump dips in again as it joins the toe. Really comfortable, I can walk miles in them.

RubberTreePlant · 28/04/2019 23:06

If you go for the beige, you'll get away with it. Even more so with a tan.

Since they're actually meant to straighten your toe, I think form over function is worth it.

RubberTreePlant · 28/04/2019 23:06

Function over form, I mean

timeisnotaline · 28/04/2019 23:06

Your feet look fine op!

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 29/04/2019 09:41

They're the sort of thing that when you're younger you can wear easily and then become tricky during middle age before being acceptable over 70 again iyswim!

I'm late 20's and agree - perfectly acceptable as casual sandals with trousers
(wouldn't look right with skirt) for those in their 20 & 30's. But somehow in 40's - 60's become unacceptable.

Plus they are nice and cheap so even if you only wear them with some outfits, I think they are worth it.

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 29/04/2019 09:43

Forgot to add go for the taupe colour. Definitely avoid the silver/gold in a sandal like that.

NiteFlights · 29/04/2019 10:34

OP, your feet are fine. The sandals are fine too - in the taupe colour, as PP have said, and a pedicure is a must (makes it look like you’re wearing the sandals style on purpose). But I would be concerned about quality and comfort at that price.

Birkenstocks are worth a try, definitely. The Mayari style shown above would be great - supportive and comfortable, and the big toe is very gently held away from the others. Avoid the Gizeh style as it seems to create the illusion of huge bunions from the slightest hint of one.

Alsohuman · 29/04/2019 11:03

Price is no indicator of comfort, some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned have been the cheapest. They really only work in taupe though.

The age appropriate thing is interesting. I’m so glad granny chic has had its day, on a young woman it looked interesting and ironic, on anyone over 40 it looked like - well, granny. With these sandals the effect will be entirely dependent on what you wear them with.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 11:04

Price is no indicator of comfort, some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned have been the cheapest true but ime on eBay it usually is.

Alsohuman · 29/04/2019 11:09

So they instantly become little torture chambers because they’re on eBay? Pffft.

Badtasteflump · 29/04/2019 11:12

Just came on to say your feet look fine to me OP - so I would just wear whatever sandals you like the look of and not worry about 'hiding' anything..

Those sandals are awful though - like something in a Sunday Supplement magazine - sorry.

Mummaofmytribe · 29/04/2019 11:14

OP your feet are fine! From your original post I thought they must be awful but they're definitely not worth being self conscious about. Choose whatever is comfortable and you actually like. I swear by birkenstocks personally. I've had a couple of different styles

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/04/2019 11:14

Did I say that? Most of everything I buy is from eBay. If they're comfy and not plasticky I'll be the first to get some ,I think they look fab.

slowdownplease · 29/04/2019 12:10

Thank you everyone, you've all made me feel much better about my feet🤗 off to find a nice pair of sandals now then!

OP posts:
animaginativeusername · 29/04/2019 16:21

I really like them - the grey ones

EnidButton · 29/04/2019 16:33

I'm not keen. They're a bit "tada look at my big toe!" And make it look even bigger compared to the rest of the foot.

Something like the ones Elspeth posted would do what you want them to do as well as look nice.

Your feet are absolutely fine btw. Have you seen some of the crusty dry trotters that come out in the Summer? Grin Yours aren't like that.

(Footner for any trotter owners btw. Brilliant stuff.)

applesarerroundandshiny · 30/04/2019 11:52

I think if you have problem feet it's most important to get something comfortable or you will make them worse.

I also think regarding age appropriate clothing that the younger you are you will look fine in something slightly frumpy whereas once you are late 40's/ 50's you are more conscious of not wanting to add 10/20 years to your look.

insecure123 · 30/04/2019 16:07

No less hideous than Birkenstocks and folk seem to go daft for them on here....... I'd much rather a pair of these tbh. It's all down to personal taste I suppose. if oyu like them then go for it

slowdownplease · 30/04/2019 16:27

Here's my feet with a very quickly done, trying- to -avoid -toddler -fingers pedicure! What do you all think?

I like them. What worries me is forgetting your toe is stuck and kicking them off. Could break the toe 🤢🤢🤢
So I won't buy.

fiftyval · 30/04/2019 16:49

OP - I have a pair of this style made by a company called Strive. More expensive than those you have found though.
Mine are black and I have had loads of compliments from various age ranges. This will be their third summer.
I am in late 50's and have a pronounced bunion on one foot coupled with having wide feet anyway. These sandals are without exception the most comfortable I have ever had as there is no pressure on the joint at all. My pair has leather under the foot and are very supportive under the arch too. Other toe post sandals can cause me discomfort as the soles are too narrow so the protruding joint sometimes slips out over the sole.
So if it is comfort that you want , these are amazing.
