Anyone had cosmetic mole removal?

Drizzlehair · 26/04/2019 19:35

Just that really.

How much did it cost?

We're you happy with the results?

Did it go wrong?

Should I do it? Grin

I've got maybe 4 of those large ish slightly raised moles on my face, and as I get older I realise they aren't doing me any favours.

Shall I lop them off? Will it scar? How long to heal?

Any info much appreciated

I would not advise going anywhere near them by yourself! 😮

I managed to get one done on the NHS as it kept bleeding and getting caught on my collar, but they don't remove them usually unless they look potentially cancerous.

You can get it done privately at skin clinics though so I am going to look into that for the couple of others I want rid of.

It's a simple and painless process - mine left no scar and was healed in a few days - but definitely needs to be done by a professional!

PinkOboe · 26/04/2019 19:41

I had a couple done for medical reasons. I’ve got pretty big scars but perhaps they took more of the surrounding skin as they were dodgy

Drizzlehair · 26/04/2019 19:44

I didn't really mean I'd do them myself!

I'm after experiences of people who have done minor ones for purely cosmetic reasons.

Thanks for replies so far.

How much £££? Is it a cost per mole? Or a call out fee for up to 4 then extra per additional one?

Tell me all ex-moley people please

I got one removed on the NHS as it changed colour and seemed to grow in size. Turns out it was harmless.

Very happy with the results.
Very tiny scar, I'd have to point it out for you to see it
It hurt a bit after the anaesthetic wore off but that only lasted a day
there was a scab For a few days, looked a bit like a cigarette burn. I knocked it off with my glasses.

If you can afford it and they bother you, go for it.

Lemondrizzzzle · 26/04/2019 19:48

I had a mole removed over 20 years ago. Very happy with the results, relatively painless and not much scarring. Cost I paid wouldn’t be representative though, given how long ago it was.

LizB62A · 26/04/2019 19:48

I'm going to lurk here if that's ok as I've got 2 that I would like removed (the doc says they're not suspicious so am happy to go private)

Any views on whether it's best to go to a plastic surgeon rather than a dermatologist?

Movistar · 26/04/2019 19:52

I’ve had 3 done - 2 on my face. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. You have to really look to see the scars on my face. I was lucky that I had private medical insurance and they had changed enough for my GP to say they should be removed - so I think I paid £100 excess and that was it.

gingercat02 · 26/04/2019 19:53

Definitely plastic surgeon for the least no scarring. I have looked into it our local clinics are about £600-1000 depending on how many, sizes, etc

Popcorntwice · 26/04/2019 20:02

I got one on my face removed on the NHS a few years ago. I was willing to pay but the consultant I was referred to said that he could understand why I'd want a facial mole removed. He was really lovely about it.

The procedure itself took minutes and I'm so glad I had it done!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 26/04/2019 20:03

I had a large one removed from under my bottom lip. It wasn't painful and was just a bit embarrassing for a week while the stitches were in. I've got a small scar which looks a bit like a dimple under my lip. I prefer the scar to the mole!

Sorry I can't tell you how much as my surgeon did it for free while she was doing some post surgery "tidying" after my breast surgery.

Betty777 · 26/04/2019 21:19

I got one removed on my neck by central London clinic. No scarring at all. it would have been £400 inc consultation (but I managed to get Bupa to pay for it as she wrote that it was 'catching on jewellery' - it wasn't as such, but my son kept trying to pull it off my neck

NaBiAgOl · 26/04/2019 21:23

I had a mole on my face 'shaved', it was dark, v cindy crawford. Not too bad really! But... It grew back, and it grew back colourless! I hated it MORE. So I had to have it ''excised'' and there is a small scar.

I was told that this happens 10% of the time but when the plastic surgeon was stitching up the lip after the second attempt to get rid of the mole he admitted that in his opinion shaved moles grow back colourless more often than 10% of the time.

NaBiAgOl · 26/04/2019 21:23

ps, I don't regret it though. I'm glad I got it removed.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/04/2019 21:24

My friend at uni did in the first year, but by third year it had grown back and seemed worse then. She didn't have it removed again.

NaBiAgOl · 26/04/2019 21:28

@anchorDownDeepBreath, I swear this happens 50 per cent of the time but they just go in first with ''shaving'' the mole as that's less invasive and simpler and doesn't require stitches. I think it is VERY common for shaved moles to grow back, so I would just say to the OP, don't be too depressed if they grow back or some of them do. Don't give up, prepare to have to get a couple of them re-done.

nodtik · 26/04/2019 21:31

Had a very obvious mild removed from my face.

Was done privately - best £450 spent. Cut out, no scarring and so much more confident as a result.

Spire hospitals were the group.

nodtik · 26/04/2019 21:31

*mole!!

forever390 · 26/04/2019 21:42

Oh it really is the best money spent.

I had a large dark one on my cheek. It really did affect my confidence. I think it put men off me (perhaps no bad thing). I felt embarrassed and self conscious. One of my early memories is someone trying to brush off the chocolate on my face. The shame! I spent my teens trying to cover it up.

I tried to remove it at uni but by gp refused and warned me against scars. Said it would be uglier.

I lived with it another decade before going thru bupa. Was burnt off. Looked horrid for a few weeks, I had to Vaseline it daily. Scab fell off and it healed beautifully. You can't tell now at all! No make up needed.

My only regret was not having it done sooner. It honestly has affected my personality. It's affected my whole life. I never believed I was pretty because of that damn thing.

KaratePanda · 26/04/2019 22:47

I didn't really mean I'd do them myself!

Oops 😆🙊

JonestheMail · 27/04/2019 00:47

Yes I had one removed by a dermatologist at a skin clinic, think I paid about £400. The actual removal was very quick. I had glue instead of stitches which worked very well. I had a small pale scar for a couple of years but it has completely faded now ( and tbh it would not have bothered me if the scar had remained as really only I could see it).

Afterwards I just thought "I can't believe I lived with that mole all those years when it was so easy to get rid of it"

miri1985 · 27/04/2019 04:10

I had a mole above my eyebrow removed with electrolysis. I posted photos of it in a previous thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3390940-Anyone-had-a-mole-removed-on-their-face-recently
If you can find an electrologist that is trained in mole removal, its a great cost effective way to do it IMHO

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 30/04/2019 08:35

I had a mole on my chin removed whilst living abroad. It was cost comparable to what other posters are saying, around £400. Mine was underneath my chin and was hairy. I always loathed it. I used to have to trim it and occasionally would catch with the scissors and make it bleed. 🤢

When DD was born she was fascinated buy it and used to rub it 🤦🏻‍♀️
Then as she got older called it my witchy mole and laughed as she rubbed it 😳

Well that was enough. It had to come off. 😂

I initially had it shaved as you could not really see the mole. I was warned that this might not remove the hair.

Well, I didn't. I just had no mole and the bristles were back in full force.

So went and had the area cut out this time. Again I was warned that some hair may persist. Five years later I still only have one teeny tiny persistent mole hair remaining that I pluck monthly.

My only regret is not doing it sooner.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I had two facial moles removed on the NHS. I was surprised they agreed to do it but one of them was in my line of vision and very very annoying. I have a tiny scar on my forehead from one, but the other one which was right beside my eye hasn't left a scar at all. The one near my eye bruised for a few days but it really wasn't painful.

I'm so pleased I had them removed, I hated them and feel a lot more confident now they've gone.

vjg13 · 30/04/2019 09:55

skinsurgeryclinic.co.uk/reviews/mole-removal-testimonials/ I can recommend this clinic, laser removal by a Dr, seen quickly and really good service. No stitches and minimal scars, they will re do for free if the mole reoccurs. I had 3 done last year and was really pleased with the result. Lots of before and after pictures on website.

vjg13 · 30/04/2019 10:01

I paid £425 (I think) for 3 last year, they supply after care kit and full instructions.
