Foundation for oily skin

Had some great hair advice here so looking for foundation tips now!

Oily t zone so I can get shiny but oil free foundations can be a bit too dry - I find they drag across my skin and set before I’ve had a chance to blend them. I’m using Double Wear which is the best I’ve tried but far from perfect - it settles in the pores around my nose quite noticeably and wears off as the day goes on.

So what do any fellow shiny-facers recommend?

Maybelline powder foundation. It's got great coverage....highly pigmented so covers up my red patches but being powder based, is perfect for oily skin.

I use a small flat brush first which I dampen and cover up my red patches...then I lightly press on the foundation all over my face and dust it off a bit with a big brush. I've tried SO many foundations and cover ups for the redness and this beats them all...even the really expensive ones.

I’ve just got a sample of this to try and like it. I use a dusting of powder afterwards.

Thanks Henny. So is it a foundation and powder in one or do you need powder over the top?

Thanks Yellow. I usually avoid moisturising ones as they make me too greasy. What’s the texture like?

I liked it because it wasn’t drying and went on easily. It’s definitely more of a dewy look rather than an matte look but not oily. They will give you a sample to try if you ask.

I've heard good things about the Primark long lasting foundation. It's only £5 and supposed to be a double wear dupe. I haven't tried it though as it's always sold out near me.
Have you tried Revlon Colorstay or Rimmel 25hr foundation? They are my go to foundations that don't slide off, although I've never found one that stays completely matte all day. It might be worth looking at mattifying primers?

Babykoala1 · 17/04/2019 09:20

What are you moisturising with? I had the same thing with double wear and then started using drunk elephant lala retro whipped cream and my double wear doesn't seperate at all now - especially on my nose where it used to..But it doesn't come cheap!

Fannydango · 17/04/2019 10:43

I’ll try a sample of the No 7, thanks.
Not tried Revlon either so one for the list, thank you.
I use LRP gel cream SPF50.

Definitely try the no7 hydraluminous foundation. It's amazing!
I have purchased many foundations this year, supposedly long lasting with a skin like finish, such as maybelline superstay, and loreal infallible freshwear - that have left me tight, dry, flaky and cakey looking.
The no7 blends like a dream, even on dehydrated, flaky, areas, and looks so smooth and fresh. The most amazing thing though, is that it doesn't leave me oily and shiny looking, doesn't block my pores or break me out. I do set with powder (you may not need too), and it still looks skin like, but lasts all day long.
I forgot to say that it covers all my rosacea redness, and can be built up on areas that you want to cover (acne scars).
I bloody love it, and also love the matching concealer too.

Ok, trip to Boots is in order!

I really like the Lancome teint idole ultra wear.

HennyPennyHorror · 17/04/2019 23:27

The Maybelline doesn't need powder on top no. I put primer on first and that sets it for ages.

GreyBird84 · 17/04/2019 23:49

Urban decay 24/7 is awesome but does oxidise on the skin so get a couple of testers before purchasing

Fannydango · 18/04/2019 00:10

Think I’ve tried that Lancôme one and it was a bit greasy for me - thank you for the suggestion though.

Not heard of that UD one - will have a look.

Literally had the same problem. Could never wear primer or moisturiser because of oily skin. I cut out all make up wipes/removers in favour of just water and soap. And I am now using the soap and glory plump moisturiser (kind of a moisturiser and primer combined) as a base and Revlon colorstay for oily skin. I do set it with the Revlon powder foundation too. My skin is actually not oily at all now since changing to this.

suchasoftersin · 18/04/2019 00:23

Oh and I also use neutrogena oil free moisturiser at night.

Cattucino · 18/04/2019 00:28

Another vote for No.7 I buy beautifully matte.

I have exactly the same issue as you and this stuff stays put all day without going shiny. I also find it gives great coverage without feeling thick or heavy.

If you go into Boots they will give you advice and samples so you can try before you buy anything.

Elllllle · 18/04/2019 01:52

Make up forever velvet matte. I'm a recent convert! I put coverfx primer for oily skin underneath

Elllllle · 18/04/2019 01:53

Also ... lrp sunscreens always make my makeup go greasy and shiny. Whata it like without the lrp gel cream underneath?

Girlinajumpsuit · 18/04/2019 06:42

Yet another vote for the No7 hydraluminous. I'm a recent convert from double wear light which was getting a bit mask like for my liking. This literally melts into your skin and is the most gorgeous texture. I have combination skin too and found that usingthis moisturiser has worked wonders for magnifying my skin www.boots.com/eau-thermale-avene-hydrance-optimale-uv-light-40ml-10108399 it's the only moisturiser I've ever used that has lived up to its mattifying claims plus really light and non greasy.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 18/04/2019 08:48

My HG is Chanel vitalumiere but i only like a relatively shear coverage. I'm guessing you like a very full coverage if you like DW?

Fannydango · 18/04/2019 09:18

Thanks all. Definitely getting some No 7 samples!
Gentleman - lots of people say DW is heavy but I really don’t find it gives heavy coverage - maybe I just don’t use that much?

Ok, went to No 7 counter and they said Beautifully Matte was definitely the best choice for me. Got a sample which I’ve only tried on my jaw but the texture feels lovely. Really hoping it stays that way when it’s all over my face. Funny, the consultant said a lot of people who use Estée Lauder have mentioned to her that they find it goes a bit orangey and I must say, the No 7 shade looks a much better match on my skin - I can see that there is a feint slightly oranginess under my jaw where the DW that I’ve already got on ends...never really noticed it before...

OP posts:
Beautifullymixed · 20/04/2019 20:56

OP, I found no7 beautifully matte really dry, unflattering and mask like. It emphasised any dry patches, lines and texture.
I hope it suits you better than me.

Out and about in the sun today, my no7 hydraluminous foundation looked wonderful and fresh. I put it straight on over my moisturiser, and set with powder (Too faced peach perfect).
I then misted my face with Cover fx dewy spray, and I've never seen my skin look so glowy! It was not oily either, although I did blot later on with a tissue, as I was under the hot hairdryer at the hairdressers.
It's bloody brilliant this foundation!

The only issue I have with no7 is the undertones. They have always seem to run slightly grey, and I've seen this on you tube a lot. The hydraluminous settles down after a short while, and just adjusts to your skin tone, but can be slightly alarming as you apply - especially in the bright sunlight.
I can put up with this though, as the foundation is so awesome, and blends like a dream.
