Are these shoes too Granny-ish?

Hi! Can I ask your opinion re: these? Am trying to build up my supply of smart casual clothes, and thinking I'd wear these with dark navy jeans or navy fitted trousers. But not sure, are they a bit Granny-ish?

I'm 37 with 4yo, 2yo and 8 week okd, so practicality is paramount! I need to be able to drive, go for walks and bend easily for changing nappies excetera

Loafers would be a no, plus tassels another no.

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 16/04/2019 23:02

Despite the name I’m actually still 20’s, lots of my friends wear similar styles but no tassels and mine are a rose pink.

No longer just for grannies 😁

You can get really stylish loafers in Spain or Italy. M & S have managed to make what could look like a stylish shoe into a dowdy one.

They look more like moccasins than loafers to me. I don’t remember seeing them around much lately but then that can be an advantage as they’re not likely to go crashing out of fashion like ballet flats have and like brogues and even trainers may do eventually. I think if you wear the brown ones with a modern outfit they should look fine. The metallic ones though are beginning to look a bit tired and I say that with some regret as I’m fond of a bit of metallic.

The one big drawback is that moccasins are soft so they won’t offer much protection if ever a granny gets fed up of the lazy stereotyping on here and stubs you on the toe with her walking stick - cos obviously all grannies have a walking stick, don’t they?

53 wouldn’t feel good in these they are aging.

RuggyPeg · 17/04/2019 08:08

The term grannyish is absolutely insulting and ageist and should continue to be challenged, where people bristle against it or not.

As to the shoes, I think the key to wearing loafers like these is skinny jeans and tanned feet.

Ratonastick · 17/04/2019 08:17

But gin and jag so I would say no. I feel your pain, I bought some cream “paint spattered” loafers in R&B last year and have only worn them once for the same reason. They could be stylishly Mediterranean or they could be Barb at the Yacht Club. I can’t decide.

Janeebx · 17/04/2019 08:35

Sorry, they’re not good. Try googling styles on trend at the moment l.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/04/2019 08:36

Yes. In every way, shape and form.

Walk away from the grim shoes.

GrumpyOldMare · 17/04/2019 09:07

I'm mid 50s and love those shoes. They look so comfortable.Don't think they're ''granny shoes'' as some of us wore those as teenagers!
