Are these shoes too Granny-ish?

Hi! Can I ask your opinion re: these? Am trying to build up my supply of smart casual clothes, and thinking I'd wear these with dark navy jeans or navy fitted trousers. But not sure, are they a bit Granny-ish?

I'm 37 with 4yo, 2yo and 8 week okd, so practicality is paramount! I need to be able to drive, go for walks and bend easily for changing nappies excetera

Thing is OP, there really are no arbiters of fashion, as much as they consider themselves to be. Do you think those shoes are 'grannyish'? What does grannyish even mean though apart from yet another term to demean a woman? It's never meant as a compliment, is it?

There are women who are older-looking, they just do. They do so from a young age even, it's who they are. There are other women who just 'wear it well' no matter what age they are and they can make anything look good.

Helen Mirren would carry those off, probably wouldn't give a shit about other people's opinions either and would look fab whatever she wore. Try and channel that if you can.

You obviously like them, if they're comfortable then why not?

I know you asked if they look 'grannyish' OP but you asked the wrong question and I'm sorry you did. Pay no heed.

I’d wear the darker pair with skinny jeans. I have loafers in red and bright yellow too- I often get compliments on them. I wouldn’t wear the silver ones though.

Mumsymumphy · 16/04/2019 16:08

A nice pleated skirt, twinset & pearls and you'll look bangin!

Bluntness100 · 16/04/2019 16:09

I'm fifty and i wouldn't. What about some cool trainers?

I got these and love them and they go well with navy.

My 63 year old mum might wear the metallic ones.

TSSDNCOP · 16/04/2019 16:11

It’s not demeaning older women. Metallic loafers are crimes against shoes.

Get to Carvella or Dune OP. My 83 DM rejected metallic loafers in favour of leopard print trainers last week.

TSSDNCOP · 16/04/2019 16:13

I’d have got them too, but she’s a bloody boomer pensioner with all that equity release and fuel subsidy shit going on Grin

Peterpiperpickedwrong · 16/04/2019 16:14

Mid 40’s and I think they are too old for me. Sorry.

brizzlemint · 16/04/2019 16:19

I wouldn't describe them as granny shoes but as hideous. Why not get a pair of doc martens?

Oblomov19 · 16/04/2019 16:20

They are seriously awful.

GlassSuppers · 16/04/2019 16:23

Don't do it OP. They're hideous!

bobisbored · 16/04/2019 16:33

I've just bought a couple of pairs of loafers from Sainsbury's, Sole Comfort range. One pink and one silver, they're comfy and less Granny.

IsolaPribby · 16/04/2019 16:36

Goodness I don't understand the total hatred for these shoes Shock

I think they are fine! Where are they from, OP?

Llongyfarchiadau · 16/04/2019 16:43

Yes, I think the shoes will look fine if your outfit is otherwise on trend, eg with the dark fitted jeans.

(Many PP have mentioned trainers instead but I reckon the OP wants something that she can put on and take off while holding her 8 week old baby.)

Llongyfarchiadau · 16/04/2019 16:45

bobisbored those pink TU loafers look great. I'm going to order a pair.

Fairylea · 16/04/2019 16:50

Sorry op but no one living is old enough to wear those. Blush

The TU ones upthread are pretty trendy if you want a loafer type shoe - my friend has them and says they are super comfy too. They’re also made in the same factory as the identical Next ones which are £40....!

Applesbananaspears · 16/04/2019 16:53

Actually I think they’re really fine and a hell of a lot better than some of the sandal monstrosities which people were linking to earlier. I’d wear with slightly rolled up skinnies or straight jeans and a tucked in slightly slouchy T-shirt or shirt

Lamentations · 16/04/2019 16:55

I've just bought a pair of beige suede loafers and I can't decide if they are 'stylish and slightly Spanish' or 'Nanna's driving shoes' so I completely understand your dilemma OP.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 16/04/2019 17:08

They look more than a touch Van dal/GAbor

VERy frumpy

PinkieTuscadero · 16/04/2019 17:09

I think the pewter ones are wearable. The darker ones with the white stitching are definitely grannyish though.

ooglyboo · 16/04/2019 17:21

They are a bit horrible.

If you're in the market for loafers, then I think that Dune do the best at the moment. They are called 'guilt.' They are a bit expensive but might be in the sale depending on the colour:

Personally I think these are better than a similar offering from Office.

helpamamaout · 16/04/2019 17:27

Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated! I can't ask people irl as they'd say anything is fine and not be honest.

Will ordef a pair of the tu Sainsburys ones to see what the fit us like ( I currently look like a 90's teenager in jeans and trainers, am trying to go fir something smarter)

goose1964 · 16/04/2019 20:50

They are the sort of thing my 87 year old MiL would wear. I find the phrase grannyish insulting. I'm a gran and wouldn't be seen dead in them

Girlinajumpsuit · 16/04/2019 22:02

I like them op! They look super comfy and I think they would be quite chic with navy trousers. Depends how you wear them I think. Recommend dune for comfy loafers too, how about these?
