What would be your hand luggage make up/toiletry essentials if you were going on a girls weekend abroad but only had hand luggage allowance? Struggling to decide what I can live without!

Shampoo, Conditioner, moisturiser, suncream, toothpaste and mascara.

JinglingHellsBells · 09/04/2019 18:27

Moisturiser, micellar water, anti perspirant, sun block for face, mini size make up - I need the full works- so small foundation, mascara, eye shadow, concealer and lippie (and maybe it can double up as blusher.) Hand cream .

JinglingHellsBells · 09/04/2019 18:27

And yes, a toothbrush and paste- you can get mini travel ones.

cranstonmanor · 09/04/2019 18:34

Shampoo- wash your body with it as well, preferably a miniversion or one of those lush shampoo bars.
A mini deodorant
Transfer some of your daycream into a minipot or even a small plastic bag
-mascara, lipstick, 1 eyeshadow, eyepencil.
-toothbrush and toothpaste, preferably a mini version

I flew hand luggage only last year and took my whole makeup bag. Blush

I always take a stick antiperspirant and bar soap instead of aerosols/liquids so I can just shove them into my luggage without having to put them in the liquids bag.

Everything fit in my bag. I roll my clothes up and don't take a hairdryer.

ReginaGeorgeous · 09/04/2019 19:52

I'd pack all my make up, and then if I found I had no room left for things shampoo, shower gel etc I'd buy either some travel sized or cheap ones from Boots once airside and leave them at my destination.

So grateful for this thread...following...

purplecorkheart · 09/04/2019 19:56

I forgot my liquid bag recently, I asked in Duty Free/airport shops could I get samples to try and got loads. Only thing I had to buy was toothpaste

problem1234567 · 09/04/2019 20:01

I take miniatures of literally everything. Boy it was like some kind of puzzle trying to fit all of those into the little see through bag they allow you and actually close it. You normally get shampoo and body wash in the hotel bathroom so they can be sacrificed.

AuntieMaggie · 09/04/2019 21:44

Thank you.

I like the idea of starting with make up!

I took my whole make up bag, got a travel size toothpaste and then picked up the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner when I went through into the duty free from boots Smile

Strongbeatsskinny · 09/04/2019 23:00

I frequently go hand luggage only I take stick deodorant, soap they don’t need to be in the plastic bag. Makeup mascara, small pot foundation. Pot of moisturiser, body lotion hair serum, hair spray decanters into a 50ml spray bottle, shampoo, conditioner lip balm small sun cream.

managedmis · 10/04/2019 01:35

Will the hotel provide soap, shampoo etc?

QuaintDuck · 10/04/2019 01:55

Buy travel pots and bottles and just decant what you'd usually use into them. Reusable and cheaper

Turquoisetamborine · 10/04/2019 03:46

I’ve been away hand luggage only with a group a couple of times. You need to allocate each person with something to bring. One brings suntan lotion, mozzie spray etc. Villa provides shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

I’m actually going for a fortnight in Florida with handluggage only (well four pieces) between me, H and two kids later this year so it can be done!

WinterHeatWave · 10/04/2019 04:19

Shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, moisturiser with spf50.
Bar of soap.
Suncream from boots airside.
I guess most of you will then add makeup. Most of mine is powder, except lipstick and mascara, but I wear it maybe 5 times a year, and holidays aren't any of those occasions!

JingsMahBucket · 10/04/2019 04:19

Does aerosol deodorant need to be in the liquid bag?

StarlightLady · 10/04/2019 06:23

All liquids (100 mil each max remember) have to be in the clear liquids bag; that includes aerosol deodorant. No sharp scissors either. But you can take nailclippers, which like all women can multitask! There is no requirement to do so, but I recommend putting the nailclippers in the clear bag too. Then security staff can then see imediatly that they are compliant.

whitehalleve · 10/04/2019 07:36

I normally take everything just in travel size

Chilledout11 · 10/04/2019 07:41

I take a bar of soap and the mini products (they do everything even try shampoo)

You could buy the little atomisers to decent perfume or samples a great idea

Chilledout11 · 10/04/2019 07:42

Dry

Oblomov19 · 10/04/2019 08:04

Oh I hate this. Despite careful planning, I always get something disallowed and it drives me nuts.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 10/04/2019 13:42

I learned the hard way that there's limit to how many under 100ml items you can take - they all have to fit in 1l transparent bag, in one layer and you have to be able to close the bag. They made me leave some things behind and it was choosing children. Honestly to think of all the lovely minis from Sephora, lovingly chosen, languishing in some bin at the airport.

Anyway - stick deodorant, powder blusher, eye shadow etc. go in the bag. I have saved packaging from samples that I decant some of the cosmetics into: tiny hylaruonic acid, tiny (5ml) face oil, a 30ml facecream pot that I also use for my body, cleansing balm, foundation, mascara, travel size sunscreen, shower gel and toothpaste. I don't bother with shampoo/conditioner if it's only for the weekend.

sweetheart · 10/04/2019 14:35

I start with makeup and anything product specific I can't live without and can't get abroad or airside or that I won't want to discard for the same reasons on the return journey.

If you are staying in a hotel - if you are they should provide shampoo, conditioner and shower gel if you aren't fussy - you can always go to a shop at your destination and get these.

If you are flying you can get toiletries air side and this doesn't count towards your allowance.

My foundation and stuff I can't do without I decant into smaller pots.

It's perfectly doable - you just have to be organised Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/04/2019 20:16

I find the Benefit minis - Rollerlash, Professional and Dandelion really useful for travelling.

I get a sample of Doublewear to take.

MIni Mac lipsticks

Tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner and a tiny toothpaste and deodorant. I don't bother with an awful lot else. Most places supply shower gel and soap so I rarely bother with those now.
