Is this dress posh enough for a poshish wedding?!

Going to a wedding in a posh stately home with garden marquee in June and looking for something to wear. Like the look of this but not sure if it is 'weddingy' enough so would welcome some views. Thanks. www.atterley.com/women/primrose-park-fiona-pink-leopard-dress-4

It's lovely, so lovely I might buy it.

Depending on your styling I think it would be fine.

What footwear do you have in mind?

Palominoo · 06/04/2019 12:06

I think you need a slip underneath as it might be too sheer.

Starryskiesinthesky · 06/04/2019 12:07

Ha Palominoo thanks! It's tricky as I've not seen it in real life so it might not be as nice as it looks! I was thinking about highish strappy nudey beige ones that I already have. Although I will sink into the grass!

Yes. I think the self-belt makes it look casual but you can change that. A solid colour belt would be better. I think any pale coloured (not tan) smart strappy shoes would work but not ones that sink into grass and not wedges. Closed toe shoes if its raining!!! A neat bag would be great.

What about a hat? I think that woud definitely turn it into a wedding outfit. I highly recommend Hostie Hats (on line and loads of colours). They do plenty of the button hats and something bigger if you prefer. I think this could look stunning.

Eustasiavye · 06/04/2019 12:11

I agree it needs a hat and co coordinating shoes.

BlueMerchant · 06/04/2019 12:13

With nice shoes/sandals, a clutch and a hat I think it will look lovely. Or how about an up do with flowers in your hair?

Floisme · 06/04/2019 12:14

Bear in mind I am hopeless at weddings but anyway I think it looks lovely and should be easy to dress up. It reminds me a bit of the dress Carey Mulligan wore to Harry and Meghan's do (sorry I can't post a pic at the moment).
My only reservations are, 1) whether it might look at bit shapeless in real life, but then that's true of most things you see online and 2) I'd be a bit disappointed to pay all that money for viscose, although I know some of it can be pretty decent quality.

Palominoo · 06/04/2019 12:14

It's quite bohemian looking so I wouldn't go for stiff accessories. If you are young I would not wear a hat but instead go for a fancy clip in hair accessory or even cordage.

I'd wear sandals not shoes.

Starryskiesinthesky · 06/04/2019 12:57

Thanks for your help everyone, I have ordered it so will see what it's like. I would have preferred it to be made of silk!

I am skinny with out much of a waist so it may be a bit shapeless on me. I'm in my 50's so not young and not a hat wearer and am not really a formal dresser anywa . Have ordered another 2 dresses as well but whenever i buy stuff online most of it goes back which is why I have started shopping now!

I think the slits up the side of the dress really make it look a bit too casual.
The BA&SH Meryl dress on Atterley is I think more suitable for a wedding.

Starryskiesinthesky · 07/04/2019 08:49

Am looking at this now although it is a lot more expensive than i would like! And i cant try it on anywhere so would need to order online!

The first dress is lovely. I wish I had an excuse to buy it.

Starryskiesinthesky · 07/04/2019 09:50

I will report back if it is as nice in real life! I do wish it was silk tho!

It's beautiful. The print looks expensive.

Hair up, possibly skinny leather belt. Nice bag. Smart chunky braclet and smart earrings.

Can you wear a blazer? June in UK not guaranteed warmth and a smart jacket would look cool

AdoreTheBeach · 07/04/2019 10:48

Definitely think the second dress is more for a “posh” (do you mean formal?) wedding as compared to the first dress (which is paired with trainers on the model’s feet).

Alsohuman · 07/04/2019 10:51

The second dress is too dark for a June wedding - obviously only my opinion. You don’t HAVE to wear trainers with it @Adore! It’s just styled casually for the picture.

Eustasiavye · 07/04/2019 12:40

Not sure .
The style of the second one is more posh but the colour of the first is more suitable.

Starryskiesinthesky · 09/04/2019 21:48

Ok, I got the dress but it is too big for me. It is lovely but see through and mot really worth £169. Cant decide whether to try the size down or not!

Can you go to some real shops and try stuff on? There are lots of lovely dresses out there, but I think you have to try a few on to find the perfect one...

3luckystars · 09/04/2019 22:08

Go to some real shops, that photo is the best that dress can ever look, and it's only ok.
Have you time to go shopping and try things on?
Good luck.

HollowTalk · 09/04/2019 22:12

Have you seen this silk Jigsaw dress?

Starryskiesinthesky · 10/04/2019 08:25

Thanks @HollowTalk . That is nice but I'm not that keen on ankle length or on blue!

I know that going to shops is easier to try things but it takes more time and lots of things arent available in shops but are online!

The pink one looks more like a casual summer dress. The second one is much nicer.

Alsohuman · 10/04/2019 11:53

It would look lovely if it fitted. And sleeves! I wouldn’t wear sleeveless to a formal wedding.
