Easy peasy things to make me feel more 'together'

Toodleoopuddle · 01/04/2019 15:12

Can I get your suggestions? I had pnd with my first child, and then last year a bereavement and new baby, and I just look shocking, tired, skin is dull, hair always pulled back, hate all my clothes. I want to look 'together'.

Help me with those easy peasy ways you make yourself feel better. I have about 30 seconds to get ready each morning Confused

I find if I throw a biker jacket on over anything it instantly looks more put together.

Eyebrows tinted and shaped so they’re always “done”, quick coat of mascara and bit of lippy (I like a coral one for daytime) and you’ll feel so much better. Also agree with whoever said to always wear perfume and sunglasses.

puppymouse · 01/04/2019 21:58

@Toodleoopuddle don't be put off by the sort of TOWIE look on the website. I'm nothing like that style but the updo buns work brilliantly for me and my slightly muddy country existence 😆

For me, my hair is the biggest issue, so every couple of months I get a good hair cut, dye it to cover greys and do a Brazilian blow dry at home to combat frizz. This means that I can just wash my hair and leave it to dry naturally.

Also, buying clothes that don't need ironing is a massive timesaver for me. I walk around clothes shops scrunching up clothes to see if they crease easily!

Alsohuman · 01/04/2019 22:06

Sunglasses definitely. Personally I think high heels look really dated at the moment, pointed flats or decent leather or suede trainers are much more current.

Happyinheels · 01/04/2019 22:21

Loving this thread - had to Google BB cream though!

I think if you break it down into 3 sections - hair, face and clothes?

Hair - one of two easily manageable styles or a good haircut. As PP's have said, a messy bun or a chignon. Or straight hair can last a couple of days?

Face - really quick and basic routine. Find out what works for you. It really can take 2 minutes on a morning. Tinted moisturiser, blush, mascara and a lippy you love.

Clothes - get rid of anything you don't like, doesn't fit, haven't worn in however long. A capsule wardrobe is good - key pieces that can be worn with anything.

Good luck OP. It can just take little tweaks to lift you and make you feel better about yourself.

Semi permanent eyebrows

Shellac on nails

Tinted face tan on after shower 2-3 evenings before bed-wake up glowing

Supersimpkin · 01/04/2019 22:29

Paint toenails. They last forever so you always have a teeny bit of cheer upon you.

Scent, hair serum and a white tee shirt work wonders in instant lifting effect and take 5 secs in all.

Yes, it does have to be a white tee or shirt - the white lights your face up in a way makeup can't. That's why fashion editors bang on.

beeyourself · 01/04/2019 22:31

Also loving this thread!

Agree, pick 2-3 colours that suit you and make sure your wardrobe is mainly those colours - this way you can mix and match & most things will look great with minimum effort.
Decent shoes & bag will help - make sure you stock it with everything you need the night before.

I had shoulder length hair that I had cut to jaw length. It needs less doing to it. If you don't have much time in the morning, wash it the night before & let it dry naturally.

Make up - all you need is mascara, lip balm and light coverage (bb or cc cream, I like compact foundation cos it feels easier to put on!)

Toodleoopuddle · 01/04/2019 22:32

Yes to the sunglasses. I lost last year's ones so will make getting a new pair a priority.

Also...mascara...I just can't do it. Even the super expensive ones which are meant to last all day & be waterproof, I just end up with it all over my face by the end of the day (within minutes really!) Is eyelash tinting worth it if I already have dark eyebrows?

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/04/2019 22:33

Make sure that your underwear fits properly. No VPL or quad-boobs.

Alsohuman · 01/04/2019 22:38

Eyelash tinting is good. You'll still need clear mascara to give them some guts.

rachelfrost · 01/04/2019 22:38

Hair cut! Plus a routine to keep your eyebrows how you like them be that plucking strays once a day or keeping a jumbo permanent marker handy.

Bright red lipstick looks a bit scary if you’ve not done anything else but yes to coloured lip balm and some mascara (not waterproof so easy to take off at the end of the day).

Don’t do that thing when you don’t wear your nice clothes because you look a bit grim and think you can’t pull them off. Wear them daily!

For me, I feel happier with how I look if I exercise- endorphins rather than shape change. When I feel gross a couple of 7 min work outs makes me human.

Oh and huge sunglasses from now until November. Obvs.

littlecabbage · 01/04/2019 22:44

At least curl your eyelashes - really opens up your eyes.

Karwomannghia · 01/04/2019 22:45

Only ever wear clothes you really like on you. Don’t wear something just because it’s there. Put make up on and do your hair every day even if it’s back, brush it. Only takes 5 minutes.

SurgeHopper · 02/04/2019 01:34

On that scrunchie website you can send them photos and they recommend which shade is best! How cool is that

evilharpy · 02/04/2019 06:58

@puppymoose any chance of a photo of your hair while wearing the scrunchie? I’d like to see it on a real person! I fancy one, my hair is quite thin and buns look shit on me, I have to use a donut.

puppymouse · 02/04/2019 07:12

@evilharpy my scrunchie is ratty and huge because I wear it every day so I need a new one but this sort of gives you an idea. This is literally sleep in own hair shoved up in a knot then twist this round 5 secs no adjustment. It's way messier than you could do it! I can't find any tidier pics that show it off!

@SurgeHopper they're lovely and helpful when I've contacted them.

evilharpy · 02/04/2019 07:18

Puppy I don’t think the photo uploaded? Thanks though!

puppymouse · 02/04/2019 07:19

Oh! I can see it that's annoying. Will try again

puppymouse · 02/04/2019 07:19

Did that work?

saganorenscarandcoat · 02/04/2019 07:20

Pick colours you suit and only have them in your wardrobe.
Give to charity any items that you don't like, be brutal, if the clothes don't bring you joy just get rid.
Wear a perfume.
Definitely agree with red lips.
Good pair of shoes for each season.
Good coat.

evilharpy · 02/04/2019 07:28

Yeah that worked! Wow it does just look like hair. I think I need one.

Fazackerley · 02/04/2019 07:33

Get your hair done, eyebrows and lashes tinted

I have a uniform of Breton top, hush harem pants and slip on leopard print shoes. I wear this most days!! (I have four tops and two pairs of trs)

I love lipstick but not red, pink.

I am 53 and a bit overweight, knackered mainly, but getting ready takes minutes.

I always use big sunglasses as a hair band also.

Eesha · 02/04/2019 07:49

These threads always cheer me up!

I'd second getting eyebrows threaded, nails clean or painted and unchipped, blusher, lipstick, perfume, wearing your nice clothes.

I tend to fall into patterns of doing everything to get my kids sorted then not bothering about myself. However as others say here, only takes a few minutes so I need to get back on it.
