Hairstyle looks like a mushroom!

My hair badly needed cutting as it was overprocessed from too much colouring. My hair is quite thick and has a natural wave to it. I went in to a new hairdresser’s with some pictures from pinterest that I liked and that I thought looked like they would work on my hair type.

As always seems to be the case, the hairdresser decided to give me a nice short bob. With very long front bits hanging down like spaniels ears. She proceeded to blow dry it with a big round brush and then straighten it into an almost sleek looking bob which I knew I could never recreate. It looked ok but it’s not what the pictures were like that I showed.
I also am crap at blow drying my hair and don’t like it poker straight either. Why do they always want to dry it like that?

Anyway, I didn’t like it but thought I’d get used to it. It’s now 2 weeks on and I still don’t like it and I can’t get it to do anything. It looks all uneven with the big longer bits dangling at he front. It’s also goes out wide at the sides like a mushroom!! The slanty fringe that I asked for hangs by one limp strand over my eye.

I know all I can do is grow it but is there anything I can do in the meantime to lessen the mushroom effect?!

Why oh why do so many hairdressers not take any notice of the ideas you have? I feel like I’ve had this bloody mushroom bob cut one too many times now. Is it the standard cut for a hairdresser or what? Regardless of hair type?

I tried a new hairdresser one time, and asked for the minimum off the length. She went full chop. You go in feeling all hopeful and naive. Excited, thinking this is it, this is going to be the hairdresser that gets it. Every time.

I came out, and couldn't put my finger on who I reminded myself off. Got home and looked in the mirror, and I twigged.

I call it the Crystal Tips effect, for those that remember Crystal Tips and Alistair!

My hair mushrooms as well. Im half way there to solving the problem but my hairdresser can't get it exactly right yet.

So we go for no layers at all on the top layer of the hair. My hair literally hates them and goes into a sort of mushroomy fluffy mess. She puts layers underneath which takes all the weight out but at the moment my ends are still too thick and chunky. Im debating getting some thinning scissors and trying to thin the ends a bit myself...

I am currently sporting Lego hair because my usual hairdresser went on an extended holiday and I foolishly accepted a substitute. The two best cutters I've had are both Japanese and both say I've got hair like a Japanese person (fine but loads of it). Hoping my lovely hairdresser is back soon.

I know I am late to this thread but found you all with a simple google of "mom hair." I am currently suffering from a cut that is NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTO that I showed my hairdresser. It is a chin length bob that is not properly shaped. I had made the decision to go shorter due to the "icy blonde" coloring that fried my ends in November..and escorting 2020 in a la the theme "roaring 20s." Has anybody found any tips/tricks in the styling process that will make the growth period more tolerable? I am glad it isn't just me!!!
