Anyone who’s had Botox

Lowandbetold1 · 24/03/2019 15:24

I have finally decided to get something done about my very deep frown lines. I have tried everything going and consistently but they are more severe than ever. I wish something else worked as I am freaking out about getting Botox but I have zero confidence now with these lines. I’m early 30’s and they are very deep and have truely ruined my face.
At the same time I am so nervous, no-one admits to getting it done on RL and I can’t tell my dh as he’d really not like this. At the same time it’s my face and it honestly looks distorted, I look completely different to a few years ago and it’s not that it’s me but older it’s like the frown lines have changed the shape of my eyes and my eyebrows. I get told all the time that I look angry or exhausted. I am going to a reputable dentist and I have read the risks. I just want to know what to expect, will it feel really weird, v heavy? Will the sensation last all through the months. I’m a little worried about feeling ill after and not being able to tell anyone. I only want to get it done in one area, can anyone else advise when they saw an improvement and was it v obvious? Thanks in advance.

Placemark as I'm also on the verge of getting frown lines botoxed because I have a permanently annoyed face I hate looking at. I was literally thinking of booking tomorrow

BartonHollow · 24/03/2019 15:32

I also get told how knackered I look Every. SINGLE. Day.

WheelyCote · 24/03/2019 15:40

It can take 14 days sometimes a little more to see full benefit. But after a few days shoukd start to see /feel difference.

You can tell them that you dont want it to look obvious and they can tweak doses.

Nobody noticed mine. Im getting mine redone tomorrow...only told DP because hes off tomorrow too and wondering what i was upto

Pandasarecute · 24/03/2019 15:44

I love mine! Very subtle but I feel I look better Smile

tanqueray10 · 24/03/2019 15:44

You will LOVE it! It just makes you look like you but fresher. For me it just lifts my eyes slightly which just makes my whole face seem lifted. Not one person noticed when I started having done. I can still emote, my face is not frozen.
It usually takes around 5 days for me for it to kick in but you will be constantly frowning and raising your eyebrows to see if it’s worked yet!

MyHairNeedsASnip · 24/03/2019 15:47

I've had it done a few times and not told anyone, not even DH noticed but after a few days my frown lines had gone and I felt so much better about myself.

It didn't feel heavy for me unless I bent over for the first couple of days, the only thing I noticed is that my forehead was a bit shiny.

dancemom · 24/03/2019 15:48

Not one person noticed mine although I feel my whole face looks different.

It wasn't painful at all, no bruising or red marks either.

I didn't get the heavy feeling I was warned of either.

I got a top up 2 weeks later.

I do feel my face is quite heavy browed now which I didn't before but I don't know if that's because I feel my forehead looks so much better?

I also noticed my eyelids crease more but again I don't know if that's because I just didn't notice previously?

Lowandbetold1 · 24/03/2019 15:48

Thanks for your messages. Barton someone guessed my age to be mid 40’s, I’m 33. Also went to a recent family gathering and was feeling pretty fresh and well rested. I got told I looked absolutely wreaked by a few people and they aren’t bitchy types at all.
I think frown lines are a separate category to usual aging lines like I have crows feet and lines around my mouth which I actually like , I’m in my 30’s so it’s normal. Severe frown lines just make people look really angry and stressed. I’ve always been into running and drink loads of water , don’t smoke etc so hate the fact that these make me look unhealthy.
Wheely does it feel uncomfortable once it sets in like anesthetic?I don’t live the feeling of numbness after a dental procedure so just trying to imagine the sensation.

Bring concealer with you as you may get raised white bumps or red marks on the injection site - they go very quickly, IME.

RickJ · 24/03/2019 15:50

Ive been having botox for the past 3 years and its the best thing Ive done. The effects take up to 2 weeks to fully show, I saw a difference after a week. Ive never experienced any heaviness, the only real sensation is that you cannot raise your eyebrows, it doesnt feel strange though.

You can ask your Dr for a slight lift rather than going for a conpletely frozen look if you're worried it will be obvious, although no one has ever realised I've had the treatment unless I tell them. The effects are subtle and make you look more relaxed.

The treatment is completely painless I find, just a ever so slight sting as they inject the area, hardly noticable and over in under 5 mins.

You can go back and have a top up after 3 weeks if you feel you need more. I've never had to do this though. I go back every 3-4 weeks for a top up. I would never go back now, the effects are too good.

BartonHollow · 24/03/2019 16:18

I know the feeling @Lowandbetold1 right up til I was 35, people guessed me as twenties and it was like it literally changed overnight

You look SO tired was a constant
Old photos without makeup got comments like "well... you scrub up well"

and then I made the mistake of admitting I felt fragile about my looks in front of a woman I didn't know very well who was a recent starter at work. Turns out she's a massive bitch.

Ever since then she relentlessly makes comments to me about aging AT OUR AGE BARTON... AT OUR AGE BARTON..AS WE GET OLDER BARTON, only the thing is I am TWELVE years younger than her and it's like she does this Tinkly Laugh bollocks of "oops my mistake I forgot you're only in your 30s" like it's an Easy Mistake given my appearance

Permanently looking tired and angry has affected my mental health

evilharpy · 24/03/2019 16:28

I have the same problem. I’m nearly 39 and not too wrinkly apart from frown lines. I’m paranoid they make me look permanently pissed off, or even a bit odd as I’m generally quite smiley which doesn’t go with a scowly brow. I’ve booked a consultation for a few weeks’ time.

I’m not remotely bothered about crow’s feet etc. It’s just the scowly look that I hate.

Place marking

OrdinaryGirl · 24/03/2019 17:02

I get my 'eleven' frown lines done about 2 or 3 times a year. I absolutely LOVE it. Dr Sid at Dermaskin does it for £120 (clinics in Cardiff, Bristol and Chester I think) and there are never any red marks or bumps.

It makes me look serene instead of anxious. I'm not bothered about looking young. I know when it's worn off to the point I'm going to want to get more, because people start mirroring my concerned frown! It doesn't feel heavy in any way, and Botox in that area also can give you a subtle brow lift which helps give a more rested look.

Only go on word of mouth recommendation - and for heaven's sake not in a beauty salon.

OrdinaryGirl · 24/03/2019 17:05

I do sometimes also get my horizontal lines done instead of the 'elevens' as my forehead was starting to resemble a Roman blind. Never glabellar and horizontal lines at the same time though.

My top tip is to AVOID getting crows' feet zapped, as they make your genuine zygomatic smile look fake and forced because people unconsciously register the 'right' muscles aren't activating. I've never had those done and never would, I feel I've earned my smiley eyes. ☺️

Chesneyhawkes1 · 24/03/2019 17:08

I had it for time in February. Results are really good. I had forehead, 11's and crows feet. I didn't have major wrinkles but I don't want what I did have to get any worse.

I found it painless and the little bumps from where the needle went in had gone down by the time I drove home.

sagradafamiliar · 24/03/2019 17:10

You don't feel anything when the needle goes in but can hear tiny popping sounds. It's good.

MancaroniCheese · 24/03/2019 17:14

I had it last summer, I noticed a slight change the next day and by the time I went back two weeks later for a check up / top up, my face looked softer and more relaxed rather than anxious and weary.

Eight months later it has only just worn off.

I only told one person but lots of other people commented how well I looked. I had my teeth whitened at the same time and DP put it down to that Grin

MancaroniCheese · 24/03/2019 17:16

Some things to bear in mind -

YY to the concealer mentioned earlier, I had tiny red dots on my face
You have to keep your face cool for a few hours afterwards - my dentist said put the air con on in the car
Don't drink alcohol the same day
Don't poke your face

stanski · 24/03/2019 17:17

@Georgieb89 I've always been told it's classified as an open wound so not to put any form of makeup on over it until the next day. Might be worth checking if you put concealer on straight away.

OP, it's not painful at all. Isn't noticeable but you will look much fresher. I used to go every 4 months but since we started doing a tiny top up 2 weeks after, it's gone to 7-8 months. Go for it!

YetAnotherThing · 24/03/2019 17:26

A neurologist friend once told me that the problem once you start is that you become dependent upon it because the muscles become wasted from disuse and so once you stop, things are worse than once you start. If you start, be prepared that this might become a lifelong maintenance thing (or until the next best thing is invented!)

troppibambini · 24/03/2019 17:30

I have it and love it. It looks really natural no one ever notices but I often get told I look well after I've had it done.
No heaviness and it doesn't feel numb.
I've had it done for around 10 years but not religiously around twice a year.
Yetanotherthing that's not my experience at all.

troppibambini · 24/03/2019 17:31

I've had it done at a few places and the advice I've always been given is no make up, exercise, facial massage and try not to bend down for a few hours.
I've never heard of alcohol being a problem though.

BartonHollow · 24/03/2019 17:41

The topical products I've tried have done nothing, I have always been one for "don't touch your face, remember Jackie Stallone, Leslie Ash, Meg Ryan etc" but Botox and Fillers have improved since those early adopters, haven't they ?

troppibambini · 24/03/2019 17:46

Barton imo it's not comparable creams and lotions can help but Botox just makes the lines go away.
I'm nervous of fillers though but who knows in a few years.
