Are serums worth it? (And if so which one?)

Im sure this has been asked before, sorry. But are they worth it? Would it be worth me using one? I've had samples in the past and loved the feel of them. I have dry skin, mid 30s, no wrinkles yet but two young DS so always very tired looking! Thanks

The Lacura (aldi) one is good

Loubyloulou88 · 20/03/2019 20:54

I suppose it depends what you want to achieve as they all do different things! A nice vitamin c serum might be nice if you feel your skin's looking a bit tired? Or hyaluronic acid serum to boost hydration?

TiddleTaddleTat · 20/03/2019 21:54

Ooh I'd be interested in recommendations for a Vit C serum? Not too pricey

gummywitch · 20/03/2019 22:15

Really like the Superdrug vitamin c booster serum. It's £4.99 and smells lovely. Been using for over a month now and no irritation or breakouts on my usually sensitive skin either. Def recommend.

MrsMuffins · 20/03/2019 22:18

I’m a total BeautyPie convert, their vitamin C serum is gorgeous and is the first product I’ve ever used that has made a visible difference to my skin. And even with the monthly subscription its still mega cheap (around £10).

Milomonster · 21/03/2019 06:40

Nope and Fab Dragons Blood. Bought it at the weekend and it’s one of the best skincare products I’ve ever bought. I normally buy expensive stuff but this is as good.

ihatethecold · 21/03/2019 06:56

I bought the expensive Clarins serum. Waste of money. I used it religiously until it ran out.
I couldn’t see a difference so I didn’t re buy it.

Just bought the Aldi Q10 serum for 2.99
I do think Aldi skincare is pretty good so we will see

Loubyloulou88 · 21/03/2019 16:31

I'm testing out a Vit C Serum at the moment but don't think much to it. The Inkey List do a fab hyaluronic acid, and they do a vitamin c serum for £7.99. Not tried that one myself but would have high hopes if their hyaluronic acid is anything to go by!

thinkingcapon · 21/03/2019 16:37

Hada labo

I'm a MUA and literally everybody I use it on as then bought it x

MissKenton · 21/03/2019 16:43

Serum is a staple in my skincare regime. I’ve read that investing in a good serum can be better than any moisturiser - even for hydrating skin.

In my cupboard currently:

Sunday Riley - Brightening Flash (Vit C)
Dr Seabag - Hyaluronic acid
Omorovicza rose serum

Interested to try out the Pixi Vitamin C - really decent price point

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 21/03/2019 16:45

I like the superdrug vit c one as well.

Loubyloulou88 · 21/03/2019 17:33

Yes I'm intruiged by the new Pixi range too.

MayFayner · 21/03/2019 17:34

When I can afford it I always go back to Estée Lauder night repair.

HaventGotAllDay · 21/03/2019 17:43

Serums are soooo worth it. Moisturisers are not.
I have on rotation:
Nip and Fab No Needle Fix- love it, blurs and plumps and smooths
Nip and Fab Dragon's Blood - plumps and smoothes.
Boots lift and luminate (blue one) is very good but needs time to see a difference. I notice it when I don't use it.
Just treated myself to some Advanced Night Repair but it only arrived yesterday.

Also really really love Vichy vit C shot something or other 10 day boosty thingy. It's amazing. (Even if it has a mad name)

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 21/03/2019 18:50

If your budget will allow, Drunk Elephant but c serum. It has transformed my skin & convinced me that i don't need Botox!!

DontFundHate · 21/03/2019 19:55

Thank you all. What difference has serum made to your skin then?

Tried a clarins sample yesterday and now had a very itchy forehead! Not good!!

Delatron · 21/03/2019 20:49

Serums are worth it, moisturisers aren’t.

I just use a vitamin C serum in the morning then spf on top. No moisturiser. Then a retinol serum at night.

Delatron · 21/03/2019 20:53

Don’t go for Clarins, Chanel etc or any of the cosmetic companies... Too much perfume, fragrance.

Brands that are good: Medik8, La Roche Posey, Indeed Labs, Paula’s Choice, Skinceuticals,

Basically ones that are are science based. You may not have heard of them as they don’t pay ££ to magazines to advertise.

MrsEricBana · 21/03/2019 20:55

Nope and Fab Grin

cannotmakemymindup · 21/03/2019 21:01

The ordinary - The buffet is fab. Another sciencey one with no fragrance. Works a treat I'm mid-thirties no wrinkles but it's kept a few fine lines away from my eye that were creeping in.

deadsexy · 21/03/2019 21:01

VIt C you goitta be looking at Aluminer everactive or Skinceuticals really, market leaders in terms of ingredients being active.

Retinol serum for the evening :)

Agree moisturisers aren't important, just as long as they moisturise.

SPF more important than anything

Mamazita · 21/03/2019 21:39

I really like Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C. It's £10 on Victoria Health

Cattenberg · 21/03/2019 22:04

I was thinking of starting a similar thread, so this is great! I’d love to find a paraben-free serum that gets rid of fine lines and puffiness around the eyes, but doesn’t cost £££. Any suggestions?

bingirl · 21/03/2019 22:06

Another fan of Nip and Fabs Dragon's blood

ExplodingCarrots · 21/03/2019 22:14

I second The Ordinary. I thought my skin was a lost cause until I started using them. I have oily skin with loads of bumps under the skin but skin is also dehydrated. I've used 2 serums (Salicylic acid and Niacinamide) and the oiliness has reduced and bumps gone. If I don't use them for a while the problems return. I know The Ordinary do some amazing serums for dry skin , it can just be quite daunting getting around the names and choosing the right one.
