Looking for a deep conditioner/treatment that actually works and doesn't cost silly money

My hair is fine, but long and thick and is suffering from winter dehydration. It looks dull and in need of Tlc.
I used to put oil on it once a week but even that isn't cutting it anymore.
Any recommendations for products that will actually work?

I like maui and tresemme

YesQueen · 18/03/2019 07:26

The fructis hair food stuff is good and cheap too

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 18/03/2019 07:29

The Palmers sachet from Superdrug is fab and around £2

Palominoo · 18/03/2019 07:32

Knight and Wilson at Suoerdrug do budget range version of Olaplex

www.superdrug.com/b/Knight%20and%20Wilson

Palominoo · 18/03/2019 07:33

I've not used it.

SwimmingInTheDeepBlueSea · 18/03/2019 07:48

Aussie Miracle Moist shampoo, conditioner and 3 min deep treatment was the only thing that rescued my hair after a couple of years of prescription steroids destroyed it.

Whynham · 18/03/2019 07:59

Shea butter hair masque. There's a few different versions depending on how porus your hair is.

Sicario · 18/03/2019 08:14

You might find some cut-price good products in TK Maxx. Brands like Redken.

BigButtons · 18/03/2019 08:20

Ooh thank you everyone!

The Pantene one minute miracle tubes are brilliant. My hair is very dry from bleaching and these really are brilliant, probably the best thing I've used.

Ellapaella · 18/03/2019 08:44

Like the look of that budget olaplex!

RuggyPeg · 18/03/2019 08:48

That knight and Wilson budget olaplex is shit. Don't waste your money.

I'm on a hair rescue mission after frazzling my hair and the best I've used so far -and there's been quite a few- is loreal pro series lipid repair mask.

Luckingfovely · 18/03/2019 08:50

I believe - and this will be backed up if you speak to any decent hairdresser - that most of the high street ones mentioned here really do not do anything for your hair. At best they may mask any problems by coating the hair shaft in a chemical, but the effect is only temporary.

The one good suggestion here is TKMaxx to see if you can find a good professional brand for a reduced price.

The long term solution is Olaplex at every hair appointment, and the use-at-home one in between.

Other than that - go to a salon and ask for their recommendations for the best option for your hair.

The cheap price of anything you can buy in the supermarket means that it doesn't have enough active ingredients to make any real difference. If you can't afford anything else, the best supermarket option would be the simplest, purest option with no parabens etc., then at least you're not adding more unnecessary chemicals into your stressed hair.

YesQueen · 18/03/2019 09:35

The fructis one I mentioned is silicone free etc, I follow the CG method
You can also use it as a normal conditioner or leave in Smile

MarkleSparkle · 18/03/2019 09:40

How often do you get it cut? I have long, fine but thick hair and I find like you after a point things stop working but the only thing that helps is getting it cut to get rid of the dry ends etc.

fluffylittleclouds · 18/03/2019 09:42

L’Oréal serie expert hair mask is great and I’ve noticed a big difference in the condition of my hair since I started using it. It is £10 for a tub but you only need a little bit for each wash so lasts months.

RockinHippy · 18/03/2019 09:54

Pureplex by Knight & Wilson has been amazing for my hair, both the treatment & the shampoo & conditioner. It's stopped my hair reacting to the damp air & turning me into coco the clown.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 18/03/2019 13:06

Seconing the L'oreal serie expert. I use it once a week and it's made a massive difference to my hair. I've actually started wearing it down for the first time in ages.

VanGoghsDog · 18/03/2019 13:19

I use argan oil in mine every day.

CorianderDestroysFamilies · 18/03/2019 13:21

I like the John Frieda overnight deep conditioning treatment. I’ll put it on normally on a Saturday night and if I’ve got a quiet Sunday where I don’t need to leave the house I’ll leave it on until bedtime. It makes your hair look really greasy but once you wash it out it feel so much better!

SuziQ10 · 18/03/2019 14:08

Have not found any of the supermarket ones to be any good.
Have a treatment at the hairdressers every 6 weeks, with a decent treatment. I do this and it costs £15 but It makes me feel better.

BigButtons · 18/03/2019 15:34

Thanks so much everyone!
I have just booked to have my hair trimmed later this week so that will help.
I can't afford any costly treatments, so will have to go with supermarket/chemist ones.
I am liking the sound of the L'oreal and Aussie miracle ones.
Oh how I wish that Claudia Winklema's amazing shiny hair really was just down to her apparent use of head and shoulders. All my problems would be solved.

My hair was looking dry and dull. At the weekend I bought Boot's build-up removing shampoo £4 and also the garnier ultimate blends Argan oil hair mask (silicone free) £4ish and my hair is soft and shiny again.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 18/03/2019 17:04

The best condition my hair was ever in was when I was rinsing it with apple cider vinegar and a cold water blast at the end. I keep meaning to order more ACV to start again.

AndSheWas85 · 18/03/2019 17:10

Aussie. It's the best. Have friends who are hairdressers and the have always recommend this.
