Double cleansing - cleaning flannels

Sorry but a boring question - where do you leave your used flannels to dry before washing them?! How do I stop them going smelly after a while?! Confused. I use a new one each night...

I use muslin cloths and just hang them over the glass screen of the shower then put them in the washing basket.

swirlette · 17/03/2019 21:31

Pop it on the towel rack and then it's usually dry by the next night so in the wash basket then.

Overthinker33 · 17/03/2019 21:32

I used to put them on the radiator but it caused rustShock

I’ve got some mobility type rails from the last person who owned the house still in the bathroom. Ugly but useful for hanging flannels Blush.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/03/2019 21:33

I put them with the rest of the washing in the utility room, still damp, then they go in with the next hot wash - either towels or DP’s work shirts. Stuff just sits in piles on the countertop in there (general/hot/wool) and they are out of the way unless you’re going out into the garden.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2019 21:35

I use muslin cloths (mix of Liz Earle/M&S/Sainsbury Dirty Works) rather than flannels , Muslins have a slight abrasiveness that flannels don't have.

I have hooks in the bathroom ( for washpuffs and Konjac sponges )but the cloths go into a netbag and get washed with the white towels.

EdWinchester · 17/03/2019 21:35

I just put them in the whites hamper. I use 2 a day.

We do at least one white wash per day, so they don't get too smelly.

KittyWindbag · 17/03/2019 21:35

I bought a suction-sticker backed hook and put it just next to the sink for mine.

Baconislife · 17/03/2019 21:35

I have a pedal bin in bathroom for flannels. They get washed every three days with towels

TacoFlavouredKisses · 17/03/2019 21:38

Popped on the towel rail to dry then into the wash basket.

CutesyUserName · 17/03/2019 21:39

Muslin cloth or magic flannel thing - go on the heated towel rail overnight.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 17/03/2019 21:40

Plastic waste bin so they don’t actually dry but I do a wash at least every other day. My dds and I each use 2 or 3 every day though.

Meet0nTheledge · 17/03/2019 21:57

On the side of the bath, then into the laundry basket (we have one in the bathroom).

SayNoToCarrots · 17/03/2019 22:08

hand wash them after each use while you are standing in front of the sink and the soap.

Winenotttea · 17/03/2019 22:15

Folded and hanging over the basin to dry, muslin cloths

greenelephantscarf · 17/03/2019 22:19

a towel thing that goes on top of the bath tub. usually the flannel is dry by next morning or evening so it can goin the laundry basket then.

Winenotttea · 17/03/2019 22:23

I must be a scumbag because I don’t wash my cloths after each use, I rinse them under the tap but use for a few days before they go in the wash.

On the towel rail that’s hooked on to the radiator. This sort of thing. That way the radiator doesn’t rust.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/03/2019 22:59

The longest mine ever stay wet is two days before washing.

Thedarklady · 17/03/2019 23:04

I put them on the radiator and leave overnight. I use them once or twice before washing them with other towels at 60°C.

SpeckledyHen · 18/03/2019 05:33

White Ikea flannel goes straight into the washing basket after use along with the towel used to dry my face . Washing is done every day in the morning before work .

FloofyDoof · 18/03/2019 06:30

I use once, then chuck them in with the next wash I do. Most of my laundry is dark, all my flannels are dark grey so they never have enough time to smell bad.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/03/2019 09:44

On the heated towel rail usually, so they dry quick. We're always doing washing here though so the rest of the time I chuck it straight into the washing machine when I'm done, ready for the next load, or the wash bin in the bathroom which we use for towels. It doesn't stay anywhere long enough to cause any dramatic damp or damp smell.

You could switch to muslin cloths? They would dry far quicker than a flannel.

Overthinker33 · 18/03/2019 11:19

Thanks everyone! I usually leave them to dry overnight (side of sink or similar) but not on a radiator and wash ASAP but even then I find they can start to smell. They are never left more than a day or two before washing. Think I’ll give one of those radiator racks a go. Thanks all Grin
