Any such thing as a stylish cardigan?

Hi,
Got some great advice about post Caesarean section jeans earlier so thought I'd have another go!
I'm on maternity leave and need to get more casual clothes. I'm especially after some cardigans to keep warm while being breastfeeding friendly. Ideally I'd like them without buttons.
I'm hear that my favourite waterfall cardigans are a fashion faux pas... so what should I be looking for instead?

You are right to give up on the waterfall, luckily I let that craze pass me by.

I'm not sure stylish cardigans without buttons exist.

I recently bought this and it got lots of compliments:

They have quite a few reasonable cardigans.

I’ve seen a lot of chunky, oversize cardigans in the shops recently, how about something like this

This was my fear... but they're so helpful for breastfeeding...

Maybe I'll just look for ones with really flat buttons. My baby is a really wiggly head-butter and I'm worried he'll catch himself on them.
I'll check out Zara, thanks!

I’d go for something chunky and loose like this:

If you like colour I bought this in next, and it's lovely.

Fat face always has a good selection of casual cardies. May not be the height of fashion but they are perfect for mat leave (warm, often have buttonless, relaxed fit).
I am a massive cardi fan so always have a selection of smart ones (see the Zara one above) for work and formal stuff and boyfriend style for casual wear.

Harumphharagh · 17/03/2019 07:48

Uniqlo also do great cardigans. That long hush one is gorgeous, and I could see the next one being lovely.

Mat leave wear is so difficult, esp since I was a completely different shape. I went through a stage where I almost had a uniform and everything was navy cream and grey with one bit of colour like that next cardi. So I’d wear dark blue skinnies (Tesco do great ones for post baby that are soft, stretchy and very high waisted), a long thin jersey strappy top from primark with the straps extended so it could be pulled down over boob, and a navy batwing T-shirt from Zara over the top with a cardi or whatever over the top. So T-shirt up, vest down. And then nice trainers and away.

Big scarves from Zara are also useful.

Harumphharagh · 17/03/2019 07:52

ASOS one is lovely too and with the T-shirt she’s wearing would be great for bf.

buttonless cardigan

Elllllle · 17/03/2019 08:13

Last week, a mum at school pickup was wearing an oversized cocoon shaped cardi with an abstract type animal print .... have been coveting it ever since. Not a fan of cardigans generally though, on me personally (curvy small hourglass) they are the frump equivalent of boot cut jeans

sunshinegirl12 · 17/03/2019 08:24

Oasis have some longish buttonless cardigans in at the moment in various colours

Bluesheep8 · 17/03/2019 10:13

I saw some in h and m. Some chunky, some thinner material. In grey, mustard, camel, green and navy. They were all very stylish.

FrowningFlamingo · 17/03/2019 14:40

Thank you! Loads of ideas here. And mixed views on cardigans in general Grin

Would something like this work? www.zalando.co.uk/object-objdeanna-cardigan-medium-grey-melange-ob121i06j-c11.html

JellycatElfie · 17/03/2019 15:14

I had a long sleeve long cardigan from Primark recently I think it cost about £9! They had blue black and grey.

iwantatattoo · 17/03/2019 15:17

I got a couple of these last year from uniqlo - very nice on
here

Palominoo · 17/03/2019 17:21

I always wore Smedley cardigans when mine were small.

1Wanda1 · 17/03/2019 18:26

I am BF and have worn this a lot: www.jigsaw-online.com/product/boiled-wool-colour-block-coat/J38076_BL010. It's a coatigan really. Easy to BF discreetly in it. Several people have commented on how nice it is too.

MontanaSkies · 17/03/2019 19:24

Look, I used to be really sniffy about waterfall cardigans (especially Per Una-style frilly ones) but when dd came along they were actually a godsend. If I ever felt uncomfortable while bf I just wrapped it around like a comfort blanket, or carrying her in a sling I could wrap it round her if it was a bit cold /windy.

I got a couple from H&M and wore them loads. I can't find the exact one but it was similar to this... (And would it help to call it a "draped" cardigan?! 😆)

CountFosco · 17/03/2019 20:08

And would it help to call it a "draped" cardigan?!

Nope, still looks like a giant vulva.

MontanaSkies · 17/03/2019 20:25

Oh god, I realise I'm onto a loser here... But my cardigan is like a large rectangular shawl with sleeves. No vulval frills. Honest.
