Sandals for plantar fasciitis and slightly wide feet!

I need some extremely comfortable sandals. I have plantar fasciitis and am dreading the summer as I will have to get out of my comfy boots! Please can you tell me what sandals have worked for you? I dont mind if they are flipflop style, mules, slip on, strap. Anything! Oh and my feet are slightly wider than normal. I have footwear in both normal fit and wide fit.

A good stretch of the calf muscles every morning before putting weight on my feet really helps, and walking style sandals from Hotter.

Mosaic123 · 14/03/2019 22:57

I have Vionic. Many of their styles are really nice and don't look too 'special'.

granof3 · 14/03/2019 23:57

When I was suffering I swore by Rieker sandals.
The styles that have some elasticated straps, so they are easy to put on and snug fitting. They come in flats or wedges, they helped me enormously.

Fishwifecalling · 15/03/2019 00:01

The most awful old lady ones that Velcro over the front of the feet and over the ankle, were the only ones that worked for me.

I have wide feet too and couldn't get my feet into fitflops to test those.

HRT cured my pf

I hate to admit it, but crocs flip flops were the most comfy sandals I owned when I had pf!

Now I have a lovely pair of Clark's samdals with a wedge heel ehich are really comfy and quite pretty

Fazackerley · 15/03/2019 00:03

I actually think birkenstocks caused my pf in the first place. They were comfy while wearing but my feet were agony when I stopped wearing them

Tunnockswafer · 15/03/2019 00:05

Birkenstock’s and I could walk again. I use ones with ankle straps for major walking, wore mine all summer last year and around the house all winter.

Meet0nTheledge · 15/03/2019 06:37

I think Crocs flipflops caused mine, I am pain free at the moment but I only have to wear the croc flipflops for half an hour and I can feelmit starting again, a pity as I loved them when I first had them. I've got some flipflops with firm soles and higher arches now which are much better.

Fazackerley · 15/03/2019 10:32

I've put Scholl sports insoles into every single pair of shoes I own (they were half price in Boots a few months ago). I think that has also helped. TBH I rarely wear sandals, usually those slip on plimsoll things which you can put an insole in

JakeBallardswife · 15/03/2019 10:35

Fit flops for me and Dr Marten boots and shoes. I'm also going to get a pair of Dr Marten sandals this year as an alternative.

AcerTree · 16/03/2019 17:29

Lots of sandals for me to try out! Thank you so much for all your suggestions. I have a few pairs of Birkenstocks madrid style but find I can't wear them all day everyday so really need to have a few more options. I live in fly london boots in the winter so I wonder if perhaps I need a bit more of a wedge heel?

Except for maybe the beach, I don't understand why people wear sandals?

Except for maybe the beach, I don't understand why people wear sandals?

Because when it is hot it is far cooler to wear sandals than shoes.

hugoagogo · 16/03/2019 18:37

Well obviously, but I haven't had sandals since I was a small child.
When the weather is nasty and hot I never think, "I would be fine if only there were giant holes in my shoes." Confused

Tootrousers · 16/03/2019 18:43

Hugo wearing full shoes when it’s boiling would drive me crazy. I think a lot of people feel the same way hence sandals

ltk · 16/03/2019 18:46

Skechers all the way. My Birks, which I usually live in, were excruciating. I needed a load of memory foam foam padding.

CornishYarg · 16/03/2019 19:53

Fit Flops for me. Although, as I can't bear toe post styles and prefer an ankle strap rather than a mule or slide, there aren't loads of options for me. But they've made a big difference to my PF.

I definitely have to avoid completely flat soles, especially flip flops and ballet flats.

Ellenborough · 16/03/2019 20:14

Whatever you do don’t go for Skechers or anything with a very comfy memory foam type sole. They seem like bliss at first, when the PF is bad but they offer no arch support. I lived in them for a couple of years and My PF eventually got better but my knees, hips and back are now knackered, I think largely due to the constant ‘rolling’ in the Skechers.

Go to New Balance and get them to do a digital reading of your foot. They will tell you what you need in terms of support for high arches, pronation etc.

I can’t wear anything too flat so If I need something a bit smarter and more stylish than a FitFlop type thing I lgo for the mid height sandals from Gabor with a very slight platform. They do width fittings as well.

That way the heel looks higher than it is, gives me just enough lift in the arch without being too high to be comfortable. Hush Puppy usually have some decent sandals too.

Ellenborough · 16/03/2019 20:17

Can’t do a link on my phone but google Gabor Cheri sandal.

beeyourself · 16/03/2019 20:50

Heavenly feet sandals - I found them by accident and love them

HaventGotAllDay · 16/03/2019 21:02

Fitflop and Skechers here. And Ecco shoes.
I had PF for about 2 years but it only twinges rarely now. Skechers are the comfiest shoe/trainer I've ever had.
Birkenstocks are no good for me because the arch support isn't built up enough and Saltwaters would cripple anyone with PF as they're like walking on cardboard.
