Sandals for plantar fasciitis and slightly wide feet!

AcerTree · 14/03/2019 10:32

I need some extremely comfortable sandals. I have plantar fasciitis and am dreading the summer as I will have to get out of my comfy boots! Please can you tell me what sandals have worked for you? I dont mind if they are flipflop style, mules, slip on, strap. Anything! Oh and my feet are slightly wider than normal. I have footwear in both normal fit and wide fit.

Hi

Vintagegoth · 14/03/2019 10:40

Sorry to be THAT person, but I love my birkenstocks. I have terrible plantar fasciitis but find the firm arch support really helps. I have short wide feet and find their normal width in size 37 quite comfortable. I prefer the mayari style.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 14/03/2019 10:44

Everyone finds something different that works. Some swear by Birkenstocks, some by Fitflops and one year after posting on here, I was sent a couple of pairs to try. All left me in excruciating pain. Hydration, no sugar (inflammation related) and stretching calves all help me. Shoes have to have to be slightly higher at the back than the front, no toe post or if there is one, it has to have a big toe strap to prevent my reflexes from curling up my big toe to hold the shoe on. I find I need a fully strapped shoe rather than flip flops. Merrell usually come up with something suitable but it annoys me that they change every year as mine do wear out eventually and it is hit and miss. I fancy trying these ones..www.merrell.com/FR/fr_FR/district-mahana-backstrap/36390W.html?dwvar_36390W_color=J97334#cgid=womens-footwear-sandals&start=1 though I would prefer brown and hate the tan colour.

I second this, even down to the same style - and the same short wide feet Grin

But also, I find a little bit of heel height helps, even if it's just a low wedge. Completely flat shoes/sandals are lethal for PF.

longtompot · 14/03/2019 10:55

I have some Merrel sandals which are super comfy. I get pf in my right heel from walking my dog wearing cheap wellies. I would love to get some Saltwater ones just so I can have a paddle with her without having to take shoes off, but no idea if they would be suitable for you.

CountFosco · 14/03/2019 12:50

Saltwaters are completely flat which I know some people can't cope with but they'll be fine width wise. Most comfy shoes I have. Roll on summer so I can wear them again.

Hoppinggreen · 14/03/2019 12:52

I have some Sketchers sandals that are really comfy
They aren’t really trendy but are inoffensive and go with everything
I love Birkenstocks but I get heel pain if I wear them for too long

Whynham · 14/03/2019 16:35

Anything with an arch support. Birkies, merrels, saltwater. I also have a pair of Art Company's which I wear the most.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/03/2019 16:37

I really love my Teva sandals

Tootrousers · 14/03/2019 16:53

Salt waters have no arch suppprt whatsoever and are really bad for pf. Birkies or fitflop etc would be much better

Meet0nTheledge · 14/03/2019 17:03

Birkenstock for me, my favourites are Mayari, Arizona and Gizeh. They need to be snuggly strapped on, not flapping about. Merrel don't have high enough arches for me, I've never tried Fitflops, Crocs ans Skechers are both far too soft. I don't need a heel, I've been wearing completely flat and very comfy boots all winter with orthotics but firm and high arch support is a must for me.

Meet0nTheledge · 14/03/2019 17:03

Oh and I have very wide feet, Birkenstock fit very well.

legolimb · 14/03/2019 17:12

Birkenstock from me too.

I can wear mine all day long. The best styles are the ones which stay on. I have gizeh and madrid but I won't drive in the madrids.

ElfrideSwancourt · 14/03/2019 17:34

Fitflops! So many different lovely styles to choose from and the only thing that has completely sorted my PF pain (I don't work for them)

sleepwhenidie · 14/03/2019 17:37

Not coming on to recommend sandals but I have had PF for over a year, starting to get really depressed about it and was about to book an appointment for expensive and probably painful laser treatment, bought this, www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B078X5N2K1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
I was deeply sceptical it would work but it has been miraculous for me, I am virtually pain free just a couple of days after starting to use it (esp before bed and first thing in the morning)

Pinkkahori · 14/03/2019 18:01

Birkenstock here too. Short, wide feet here.
I had PF and found that rolling a ball under my feet every night helped and never going barefoot. I used to be constantly barefoot because I hate footwear but i feel great in Birkenstocks.
I have a pair of their clogs I wear around the house. Bliss for my feet.

FindPrimeLorca · 14/03/2019 18:04

I love my Tevas. Very supportive moulded soles, good for pf and not too hideous.

Cherrypie32 · 14/03/2019 18:23

During the time my plantar and arthritis was at its worst these Clark’s sandals served me well, as did Fitflops, no toe post slight wedge shape. Vionic are expensive but good too. I’ve had surgery now so can get away with a bit more. As tight calf muscles have a lot to do with four pain anything flat is not a great idea.

Cherrypie32 · 14/03/2019 18:24

Sorry, these Clark’s

Sandals for plantar fasciitis and slightly wide feet!
Theknitwitch · 14/03/2019 18:31

Sketchers. Definitely. When I first got this I wore only sketchers including in the house! Really helped.

teta · 14/03/2019 20:13

Vionic.
Wide width as well as arch support. I have completely swopped from Fitflop to these due to knee issues and horribly flat feet.

Gersin · 14/03/2019 20:14

ForgivenesslsDivine is that all sugar, natural as well as refined? I am interested to try, I haven’t tracked whether keeping hydrated has an affect or not on my pf but I will give it a try.

Ecco as (exciting as they are often not) are alway comfortable for sandals, generally I can tell in the shop if they will work or not and I pretty much each year they do a variation on a theme that I know will work. Not that I even need a new pair every year as they last so well. Last year I bought a hiking pair (not as bad as they sound) and they were utter bliss. I need something that has a flexible sole, so Birkenstock’s are so painful for my feet.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 14/03/2019 21:15

@Gersin it's refined sugar for me but also if I 'eat clean' (no dairy and gluten), I generally have less pain and inflammation.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 14/03/2019 21:38

I used to love my birkies but my calves started to ache. I now find fit flops are much comfier. Sketchers I found too soft.

Frosty26827 · 14/03/2019 22:30

Fitflops have been my saviour and the styles are getting a lot better.
