Am I insane? Am I?? Marks wide fit shoes

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/03/2019 21:12

So I am in the market for some new basic office shoes, probably black. I spend a fair amount of time on my feet and have a short walk to get to work so they need to be comfy. I have wide-ish feet.

I was in MnS today and was noticing their wide fit collection has a good few different styles of court shoe for very reasonable prices.

I am 39. Should I just start drawing my pension now or are they okay?

I am thinking of stuff like this

Borderline.
You could probably just about get away with those.
If they were wedges however, I'd be saying buy a matching shopping trolley Grin.

Soontobe60 · 07/03/2019 21:22

No, very boring! Also that heel will be uncomfortable. Why not just buy some trainers for the commute and leave smarter shoes in the office?

Mysterycat23 · 07/03/2019 21:25

Don't walk to work in those! Wear your trainers! ConfusedGrin

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/03/2019 21:26

Soon because I have to be on my feet at work. I can't wear trainers there.

Why o why are there not comfy sensible smart heels??

The walk is from the works carpark to the office. It is only 5 min but then I have to go to different buildings onsite during the day and stand around a fair amount. I can't be popping in and out of trainers multiple times.

They’ll be fine. I have a similar pair for a similar reason. I certainly don’t get compliments on them, but they are inoffensive and I try to wear clothes that make me look less like my mum, to offset them.

SurgeHopper · 07/03/2019 21:33

Don't get the black ones

FanSpamTastic · 07/03/2019 21:54

I have some heels like this for when I have to be smart. Rest of the time I wear flats or boots!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 07/03/2019 21:59

Yes I was looking at Clarks too.

My work "uniform" is smart dress - sheer tights - low heel - trench coat.

Fashion forward it is not, but it is smart, practical, and I don't get noticed for what I'm wearing rather than what I'm saying iyswim.

I starting wearing M&S shoes for work when I was in my 20s! They're affordable, comfortable, and always looked suitably dull and appropriate for my dull and appropriate role. Perfect. Grin
You can still wear thigh-high stiletto boots at weekends you know!

Squickety · 07/03/2019 22:02

I have these ones which are slightly higher. I don't have wide feet I just liked them, bought 1/2 size down and they fit perfectly. I've not had anyone rave over them but I don't think they are particularly offensive!

TrySinging · 07/03/2019 22:05

I love M&S shoes. I'm 40 and I have many a funky pair. They are v comfy in my experience.

SunnySomer · 07/03/2019 22:06

The lovely thing about being 10 years older than you are is that you suddenly realise that comfort is more important than what you worry other people might possibly think.
People look at your shoes less than your face. If your feet hurt, it will show in your face. Just go for something bland and comfortable.

goingtotown · 07/03/2019 22:29

I don’t think they’re ok, they look cheap.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 07/03/2019 22:42

The almond toe and the patent block heels are really comfy!

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 07/03/2019 23:02

Simply be have some gorgeous wide fit shoes in flat, heel, wedge, you name it. I tend to wear the heels for work and they are really comfortable and around 3 and a half inch heel height.

schoolsoutforever · 08/03/2019 06:30

If you want to wear something with a heel, ignore what I'm going to say, but if you don't why not just a nice pair of brogues or similar flat shoes? I think the idea of women having to wear some kind of heel to be taken seriously is a very sad reminder of our terribly outdated, sexist past. The only real way to be comfy for me now (and I do occasionally wear heels when I'm not walking because I fancy the style) is to wear completely flat shoes. Personally I think court shoes would be the nearly worst thing fo comfort - always slipping off, awkward heel.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 08/03/2019 06:37

They look ridiculously impractical to me but then I haven't worn heels for at least 25 years since I sat and thought about how daft it is for women to hobble themselves with uncomfortable shoes.
I wear boots or brogues mostly. I do agree that finding wide fitting shoes is very difficult, next and new look also have quite a good range of wide fif shoes.

Shangrilalala · 08/03/2019 06:43

I have same issues as you and stick to Fly London Yaz wedges in patent. They can be dressed up or down. I gave up on heels after children as they were agony but these are so comfortable and last well.

Takeapolaroid · 08/03/2019 06:45

They don’t look comfortable at all. Also do they actually stay on your feet?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/03/2019 06:46

Why any heel?!

Eliza9917 · 08/03/2019 09:25

I just bought these from m&s for an interview I had on Monday. Can be worn with skirts or trousers and a low heel so very comfortable.

MadameDD · 08/03/2019 09:29

Squickety - I bought the non wide fit version of those almond toed shoes and they're so comfy.

TonightJosephine · 08/03/2019 10:09

I really like M&S shoes but I think the ones you've linked to are a bit frumpy.

I usually wear a pair of flats or boots to get to work and then change into heels when I arrive.

These almond toe heels are very comfortable, but only available in patent.

These pointed toe heels are also quite comfortable and come in suede.

I find I am half a size bigger in the pointed toe shoes compared to the almond toe ones.
