I've been colouring my hair since I started getting highlights at the age of about 14. Am now 47 and was at my hairdresser this am getting cut and colour (all over colour, which is dark blonde)
been getting more and more grey for the last few years and hairdresser reckons growing out the dye and embracing the grey could be a good look......my hair is apparently a nice grey Hmm
I could get timers to help blend the dyed bits with the grey while it's growing out, and part of me really likes the idea. Hair is in a chin length bob so it's not too long
But part of me just thinks grey hair = old lady and I just don't feel like that!
anybody out there ditched the dye? what's it's like??

If I look middle aged it is probably because I am 😂🤷

My dad went pure white by the age of 20, my sister and I started in mid 20ies. I only have sort of grey 'highlights' now, my sister is more grey than me but dyes it.

I just don't mind it tbh. Yes, if my hair gets unruly it contributes to an overall scruffiness, but as long as my cut is neat I don't dislike it. Having short hair dyed is such a pain in the arse, every time you get trimmed you chop the colour out 😂

I haven't asked dh what he thinks of it...why would I tbh but he has been complimentary about it.

I attached this picture the other week Inna similar discussion. You'll have to excuse the setting as I was mid tidy and MN-ing at the same time 😂

Wow you look so young and pretty Barrenfield that both the cut and natural hair colour look amazing on you, really suits! You have beautiful skin and features. No way could i carry off a pixie cut with my old haggard chops!

For me a few years ago - approx. 40, I started to get white as opposed to grey hairs - at hairline sort of just at side of ears/temples, it grew out a bit (I didn't notice) until I had two long streaks of white hanging down at either side of my face - I had highlights but think I'd either stopped them then or just not noticed. I went mad afterwards thinking I was going grey etc and what to do and actually spent lots of money getting whole head colour and then highlights - with a toner etc.

I now go to a very good hairdresser who told me honestly - the bit at the side hardly notice - and best thing is that last time I went I had it more natural than the usual bright blonde highlights and it appears to have covered it!

If the worst comes to the worst I'll use root touch up, I think I always will dye in some way.

Nothing wrong in embracing the grey or dyeing it.

All the women who put on pic's of their grey hair you all look amazing, really pretty.
I think women should go with what makes them feel good about themself.

For those who have asked about dying hair grey before growing it out, I did actually do this at home myself. I'm not advocating it, I'm a huge believer in 'it's just hair', so no one should probably ever listen to me, but.....

I had coloured dark brown hair and just wanted to get a vaguely grey colour that would leave less of a line while it was growing out- knew I wouldn't get an exact match but it definitely softened up the grow out. I bleached twice and then used Superdug Colour Freedom Metallic Glory. Not perfect but I had fairly short hair and it just eased the transition. I also didn't get my hair as light as I should have done as it's very resistant to bleach! there should be pics attached of my yellow blonde hair and then the grey.

I'm late-50s, and used to have v dark brown hair. Started going grey early 40s, and was told (by a rude but fair hairdresser) that dyeing it back to its original colour looked a bit harsh with my "ageing skin". Spent years having highlights that blended the grey in with blonds and coppers. A few years ago I took the plunge and stopped putting any colour in. I'm now grey all over with occasional darker strands, in a short and messy kind of way. I think it looks pretty good. I do spend more on hair products to stop it getting straw-like and on more regular haircuts. I don't mind people thinking I'm the age I am, as I am that age!
