English couple marrying.
I'm guessing it's going to be late in the late afternoon or early evening. Hot still! How will I look glamorous and not melt?!

Lovely floaty maxi dress and glittery beaded flats. Simple pretty summery jewellery and hair up. Light waterproof makeup. Carry a fan in your bag and a light pashmina/wrap to cover shoulders if in church.

And enjoy, it will be lovely!

mummmy2017 · 02/03/2019 16:44

Get a pace umbrella, if it's too hot, you can hide

StarlightLady · 02/03/2019 16:46

OP, lack of information I’m afraid. I was tempted to put LOI as a joke, but someone will latch on to it start using it.

Help us out a bit.

  1. Inside or ouside?
  2. What type of venue?
  3. What time of year?
Tatapie · 02/03/2019 18:15

Starlight sorry for scarcity of info but no official info yet.. just having early outfit anxiety / excitement!
Definitely end of July, Greek island. Heard amazing old church then inside / outside restaurant.

Good advice Minesa. I'm not sure I suit floaty but will try!

Definitely nothing tight or fitted, loose and floaty is your friend!

StarlightLady · 02/03/2019 18:42

Given the time of year, I would second loose and floaty (try Monsoon), but if it’s inside, some indoor venues can have the aircon on so high it can resemble a freezer. So take a cardigan.

Be aware that is some parts of Greece, July is known as the Meltelmi season and it can be windy. Almost akin to being in a hairdryer on a hot setting.

Tatapie · 02/03/2019 19:50

Great advice thanks Starlight, hair up then and anti air con coverage needed!

Cotton / other natural fibres all the way

IndigoDream · 02/03/2019 23:38

Fly over a few days before the wedding, you'll hopefully acclimatise and cope better. I had a similar situation recently and this worked for me. Also if you're worried about sweating, a patterned dress may suit better than a solid colour.

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 04/03/2019 15:59

Yeah I'd go floaty maxi and very gorgeous flat embellished sandals I think. Ooh it sounds heavenly I'm a bit jealous.

Thanks, it will be divine! I'm wondering if I need something slightly more eveningy but not bridesmaidy and still summery! Hmm! Tricky. Maybe the high summer stuff isn't quite out yet?

Get your hair and make up done as late as possible and then stay in places with air con, don’t wear anything too tight. Most venues have air-con so it’s only the church and in between that you’ll melt a little. Have a fan for the church.

Chocolate35 · 04/03/2019 22:24

This is nice and appropriate.

OlennasWimple · 05/03/2019 12:37

Chocolate - that dress is nice, but I'd argue that it's not really appropriate for the OP's situation. Both because it's too exposed for a church wedding, but also strapless is a nightmare in very hot weather and the fabric of that dress will do nothing to help sweat issues

Sorry

DontCallMeCharlotte · 05/03/2019 16:19

Oh that Ted Baker one is perfect! (And very Greek too!)

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 05/03/2019 18:10

I know I wish I had an excuse to buy it 😂

Hoppinggreen · 05/03/2019 18:12

Heck out Aspiga
I always think “ooh I wish I were going to a Greek wedding so I could wear that”when the catalogue drops through the letterbox

Hoppinggreen · 05/03/2019 18:13

Check out I mean

DontCallMeCharlotte · 05/03/2019 18:59

Ooh Hoppinggreen some of those are lovely, especially the floaty maxi dresses. We've stayed a few times at a family run hotel in Greece. The adult daughter of the family is so beautiful and it bothers me slightly that instead of swanning around in something like that, she basically wears a nasty ankle length vest. Like it's any of my business!

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 05/03/2019 19:15

That red one is not appropriate. Too short for a church and looks like it is made from some nasty cheap material. Total sweat fest.

TSSDNCOP · 05/03/2019 19:16

The Ted is bang on

TSSDNCOP · 05/03/2019 19:20

The thing is, you'll be hot in whatever you wear. The real trick is to look cool.

Dress floaty,
Shoes not too tight/high
No sunburn/strap marks
Hair groomed: pony tail/bun rather than loose
Make up light, take a second set to segue into the evening
Sunglasses
Small bag
