Facial hair - ruined my skin

Riya011 · 24/02/2019 11:40

I have black facial hair. It’s fine hair - but got lots so i can’t ignore it. I learnt threading a few months ago, it helps me keep on top of chin and upper lip hair. Over the years, I really struggled with finding a decent solution for sideburns and cheek hair. I have a home wax set up, but waxing didn’t get all the hair out. It also ruined my skin :( I have a lot of pigmentation now. Last week I bought those wax pellets, omg, they were so hard on my skin and still didn’t get all the hair out. (I think I didn’t get the technique right tbh)
I had a braun epilator (normal one) and it was ok but left bumps when it pulled hair out.

Please can someone help me. I see that the bendy thing has a lot of good feedback. I will try that today.
Is facial epilator any good??

Buy a set of flat razors from ebay. I'll leave a link at the bottom of this comment.

It should take literally 5 minutes to do your entire face. I do it dry all over to get rid of peach fuzz that I hate & then moisturise. Works wonders.

I have the bendy thing (I forget its name). Basically it does the same thing as threading. I have fair hair but in the last couple of years it has grown longer on my top lip and when it catches the light I have a bit of a tache. The bendy thing removes the hair quite well but my skin doesn't like it. Day 1 it is red and a little inflamed. By day 3 I usually have little tiny spots appearing. After a week the spots subside and I start to look ok, but after about 3 weeks the hair is growing back.

I would buy some Veet sensitive but don’t put it on for the full 5 minutes, try with just 2 minutes at first and then gradually for a bit longer if necessary. My facial hair only takes 2 minutes to remove with it and it leaves the area lovely and soft, no stubbly regrow. Cheap too!

GinaCarbonara · 24/02/2019 15:14

IPL like the Philips lumea. It worked great for me.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 24/02/2019 15:19

Quite honestly I’d bleach it and learn not to give a shit. Well it’s what I do. I have friends, a job working with teenagers and a partner.
All still possible with facial hair.

I agree about the flat razors mentioned above. Cheap, painless and great results.

OddBodsAndGladRags · 25/02/2019 20:10

When using the flat razors does the hair look stubbly when growing back?

I have bee. using the bendy thing for a few months. Find it best after a shower and not putting on make up for a while after. Found it ace for my chinny chin hair.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 25/02/2019 20:35

Why not save up and get it lasered off?

itsbetterthanabox · 25/02/2019 22:28

Get it threaded.

Shelley54 · 25/02/2019 22:28

Have any of you tried dermaplaning? I’m quite tempted to give it a go at the salon I get my nails done at...

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 25/02/2019 22:51

If it’s black you should get it lasered. I had full body laser and my hair was black and it worked a treat.

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 22:51

Dermarolling is just shaving though, right?

Ribeebie · 25/02/2019 22:55

I have laser to my chin and jaw. I also had black hair with pale skin. It has worked brilliantly. It is a big outlay at the time but it's worked and my skin is no longer sore/inflamed for repeated tweezing etc. My confidence is so much better. I'd definitely recommend it if you can afford it. I used sk:n clinic who were very good and often have 30% off offers.

BusterGonad · 26/02/2019 07:31

Do not bleach it, you wi look like a little yellow fuzzy peach! Get it done at a salon, ask them what is best, be it dermoplaning, waxing or threading. I have upper lip hair and I use a small battery shaver, quick and painless and makes me feel freer than when I used cream (rash) bleached (orange fluffy rash) or numerous salon visits!

Ipl device for home use, or save up for professional ipl or laser

SleepingBooty · 26/02/2019 07:39

IPL.

BusterGonad · 26/02/2019 08:33

I was going to buy an IPL device but luckily before actually buying it I read the instructions and realized it wouldn't work for me as I'm very very freckly. So gutted as it was on offer for £100

EmpressJewel · 26/02/2019 08:41

Groupon laser treatments.

My salon uses a heat based laser, as opposed to IPL which is a light based treatment.

I love the results. There are lots of deals on groupon, which make it much cheaper. The salon will do a test patch and if you aren't suitable, they will refund you.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/02/2019 11:12

I shave it. Every. Fucking. Day. My best friend and I have an agreement that if I'm ever in a coma, she will arrange for me to be shaved. DH will be in for a bit of a shock!

Sorry, not helpful.

MagicKingdom · 26/02/2019 11:26

Try laser removal or going to a salon to have it waxed professionally. With hot (hard) wax the hair doesn't need to be as long & it doesn't remove the top layer of skin so it shouldn't be noticeable or cause irritation. I know it's expensive but it's much easier than trying to control it yourself at home.

MumUndone · 26/02/2019 11:45

What's the bendy thing??

Grapetree · 26/02/2019 11:50

Hi OP, I have severe hirsutism due to pcos. Facial hair really takes a toll on my esteem, so I can really relate! I recommend electrolysis - it really is the superior hair removal method, the only proven method with permanent results. Check out the BIAE website for trained practitioners

Although laser is popular for some, it is not proven to be permanent. (E.g. the FDA in US considers electrolysis as permanent but laser can only provide reduction)
Also, what put me off laser is that in some unlucky women it either doesn’t work (hair grows back the same amount) or even worse - paradoxical hypertrichosis (triggers more hair growth)
