Expensive healthy glow

I’m sure this has been touched on in the ‘How to look expensive threads’ but I thought it would be interesting.

If you know people have that healthy glow or if you have it yourself. How do you get it?

Is it a money thing or is it a mentality of looking after yourself?

Glycolic toner, Hyaluronic Acid, a good hydrating face mist for a midday top up, shimmery but not glittery highlighter, lots of water and bronzer.

Aroundtheworldandback · 24/02/2019 21:42

Sienna X spray tan. Order online.

RuggyPeg · 24/02/2019 23:10

Ok, here are the pics of my skin, as mentioned earlier, when I was mid way through the Obagi nu derm regime. As you can see, impossible to wear make up with but you do end up with incredible skin at the end.

Singinghollybob · 25/02/2019 02:39

Which facial oils do people recommend?

Bowsbows · 25/02/2019 10:46

Ruggy I would not be brave enough to have that treatment! Grin I'd be so paranoid that it wouldn't correct! I am also paranoid about having facials, hair dressers putting colour in, nail salons overdoing the drills/filing though... Over the years it seems a lot is down to the individual beautician/service provider person technique and "eye" for what would be like, and not necessarily just the salon. Some beauticians/clinicians do application by numbers rather than highly tailored. I know I'd like to try these high-tech skin things in the future when I feel I really need them, but I would see it as a good result if I didn't look any worse than before I started, let alone any better! Grin

As I wear makeup every day, even if I had a natural glow it would get covered up with the makeup! Ruggy are you a lover of makeup (eg everyday not just special occasions) or the fresh-faced daytime look?

AhoyDelBoy · 25/02/2019 11:09

@Singinghollybob Face Hero is amazing! I’ve tried other oils but really rate this one. Could be expensive to ship though, I’m not too sure.

waterandlemonjuice · 25/02/2019 11:20

lol at the prisoner not seeing a lot of sunlight

No 7 lift and luminate is good and people always say oh your skin looks good when I use it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/02/2019 11:22

I keep reading the No 7 as “lift and laminate”...

BangingOn · 25/02/2019 18:12

I’ve found a good Korean skincare regime and twice daily massage with a jade roller has made a huge difference to my skin.

SurgeHopper · 25/02/2019 18:26

Crikey ruggy

Do you have an after pic

Winenotttea · 25/02/2019 19:07

Agree with all the comments re routine, water, alcohol etc.
Makeup wise Bare Minerals original powder has a lovely subtle dewey finish.

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 19:46

Bow - Obagi nu derm is an at-home treatment. Takes approximately 3 ISH months to get through the extreme peeling phase. I went for it but you can go steadier over a longer period of time. Results are pretty much guaranteed. Your skin is falling off and with it, all the pigmentation. You can also have their blue peel, which does the same thing but over the course of about a week. I'm definitely not brave enough for that. You literally look like a smurph with a blue face! I don't wear much make up, no.

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 19:59

After pics. I promise that there is absolutely no filter of any kind on this. I'm going to do the regime again in the next couple of months I think.

Expensive healthy glow
StellaRockafella · 25/02/2019 20:00

I'm 43 but regularly get mistaken for being 30 and I know this is due to my skin. Granted, some of this is due to the luck of my genes (both my parents and sisters have ridiculously good skin too/look years younger too), but I also take really good care of my skin - I don't eat sugar, drink 3-4 litres of water a day, rarely drink alcohol, don't drink caffeine and drink a cup of homemade bone broth a day. I've not had any fillers, botox or any kind of tweaking either but do double cleanse with an oil/balm and also a cream cleanser, regularly acid tone/glycolic peel, use a facial mist/toner, and also a face oil topped with a light moisturiser. (I avoid both micellar water and foaming cleansers). Sometimes I do face exercises and use a jade roller too. I also take krill oil.
My skin is good enough to go without any kind of foundation or base.
(Considering I had terrible cystic acne in my 30s my skin has had a major turnaround which I mostly attribute to double cleaning, using face oil and no sugar. )

The main contributor to glowing skin is no sugar. Seriously. Try giving it up along with heavily processed foods for Lent and you'll see a difference within a fortnight and by the end of the 40 days your skin will be glowing.

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 20:00

Not sure you'd class it as an expensive healthy glow but it's pretty even toned, I think!

SurgeHopper · 25/02/2019 20:01

Wow ruggy it looks fab Shock

Quintella · 25/02/2019 20:11

So the Obagi treatment is mainly tretinoin?

Babygrey7 · 25/02/2019 20:31

Stella, I agree with the sugar thing

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 20:51

Tretinoin and hydroquinone.

KaliforniaDreamz · 25/02/2019 20:51

Face fake tan and a good moisturiser.
Sleep.

Bowsbows · 25/02/2019 21:07

Very nice result Ruggy! Your skin does look amazing. When you say 3ish months, do you mean that's how long it takes from starting the process, & skin to start and complete peeling? Can you wear foundation type makeup in the meantime or is it pointless as the skin isn't smooth? Do you feel self conscious going around & about? What do you tell people when they ask? (presumably, that you're doing a facial treatment or to mind their own beeswax but y'know, some people are very nosy Grin No but seriously, there are some people I wouldn't mind at all sharing the details with and others who are very opinionated - some school gate mums spring to mind who tut at mascara or a brightly coloured dress or anything that isn't basic jeans and a fleece.

Also, feel free not to answer of course Smile but I was wondering what kind of age bracket are you in?

RuggyPeg · 25/02/2019 21:16

The regime lasts about 6 months but for c3 of those months, you're peeling like crazy. Your skin then acclimatises and peels less. If you lay off the products for a few days, you stop peeling - if you wanted a break, for instance but it's better to just push on through. It's next to impossible to wear make up cos it's just sloughing off during the day. I was in a corporate job whilst doing it and yes, I felt self conscious! Female colleagues mostly never asked. The men mostly just said, what the hell is wrong with your face?!!!! I preferred this, as I could then say! Im 43 in those pics.

Bowsbows · 25/02/2019 21:21

Wow, 43!!!! Your skin tone (as in firmness) looks a lot younger.

You definitely have some courage to continue the peeling for that long especially in a corporate environment! I feel self conscious enough if someone notices if I have a new hair colour or shoes or something. Your treatment was worth it in the end though, I can see.

Tomtontom · 25/02/2019 21:25

Was your skin particularly bad before Ruggy?
