Colourist fucked up my hair :(

Stupid stupid me decided to try the new salon near my house as i figured it would be more convenient (it's a 2 min walk away) and id read some good reviews. I've wanted to go much blonder for a while. My hair is naturally dark blonde eith a few highlights which I last got done nearly a year ago. Whenever i have them done I find I can still see the grey around my temples so figured going much blonder would help. I've attached a screenshot of the colour i wanted. The guy spent 3 hours adding foils and decided to put a slightly darker ashy tint on the rest as a contrast. I did notice the foils he did weren't as tight as i normally have but figured it wasn't a big deal. A trainee put on the tint in the sections between (these were quite sparse as he did very chunky blonde highlights) and when she did the very front at the end I realised the foils weren't tight to my head and she was dabbing the tint on the roots where the foils were! It was too late to do anything at this point and I was a bit panicked. He washed it all off and put a toner on for a few minutes then when he dried it I noticed the dark roots and the blonde is yellowy not the white blonde I wanted at all! He charged me 160 quid for this monstrosity! Anyone here a hairdresser think this can be sorted? It looks awful. I dont want to go back to them as i dont trust them to be honest! I'm gutted :( Will attach pic of the reality in next post!

Here we go. The colour looks better in these pics than reality! The roots are my main issue though. And that darkness is all over the head.

And my hair has always been fab condition - so those broken bits all over the front and top are new!

Not a hairdresser but there is usually a period of yellow before white blonde. Did u say anything at the time?

TurquoiseWeekend · 15/02/2019 12:25

Honestly? It doesn't look as bad as you're thinking. It looks like it could just do with having some toner on it- that would get it to the same sort of tone as the picture you wanted. But it isn't awful by any means.

SeeYouLaterUserData · 15/02/2019 12:26

I also don't think it look s awful. It doesn't look anything like the pic you asked for, but it doesn't look awful.

PCohle · 15/02/2019 12:29

I think the colour is fine. It does leave a bit of roots at the top but that's always a problem with foils.

Titsywoo · 15/02/2019 12:29

You don't think the roots are bad? That's the worst part. Maybe the pic is too light to show. Those roots are dyed with the tint! I could cope with the colour if it weren't for the roots.

OP posts:
Titsywoo · 15/02/2019 12:30

It's the fact that it looks like a tide mark around my face where she's painted the darker tint onto the exposed roots where the foils were.

TurquoiseWeekend · 15/02/2019 12:31

My roots look like that when I have mine highlighted. I think it's about as close as the hairdresser can get when using foils. It might've been different if you went for an all over colour. The pic you wanted it like does also have some darker bits too though.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/02/2019 12:33

All i can do is sigh with envy as you have such lovely hair !
I do sympathise if it isn’t what you wanted though. I can see one tiny darker root area at the front that they maybe missed, and it is a buttery blonde rather than a silvery blonde overall, but your hair does look gorgeous. If you hate the overall tone then call them and go back in, i would imagine they could cool it down without using anything damaging.

Drogosnextwife · 15/02/2019 12:35

I see what you mean about the roots. Did you tell them at the time it wasn't what you were looking for? I wpuld go back and tell them they have messed it up and. We'd to fix it or you want your money back.

PCohle · 15/02/2019 12:37

So the roots aren't your natural colour? The roots are darker than they would usually be because the hairdresser has tinted them?

That would piss me off, yes.

remainymcremainface · 15/02/2019 12:38

I think what you have looks nicer than the pic of what you were after TBH but thats just personal taste and YANBU that what you have is clearly not what you asked for.

Drogosnextwife · 15/02/2019 12:38

I have just read to the end and saw you paid 160 pounds!! I would be absolutely fuming with that OP! Is this your normal hairdresser?

Crazyladee · 15/02/2019 12:39

I agree it looks absolutely nothing like what you asked for.

However did you tell them you weren't happy with it? Theres no way I would be handing over £160 unless I was completely over the moon with the finished result.

You can either do 2 things here..

1)Get on the phone and tell them you are really not happy with the result. They should offer to correct the work (ask to book in with a senior stylist/colourist) Be honest and mention you felt the highlighting technique was sloppy/foils not put in tight and secure enough.

2)Chalk it up to a bad experience and go somewhere else and never go back again.

I would personally go for the first option. Its uncomfortable making that call but unless you let them know, they can't rectify it.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 15/02/2019 12:40

Dont honestly think it looks bad OP...defo not seeing anything starkly different at the roots- do use a silver shampoo to keep it ashy as opposed to any yellow/ orange colours coming though

DoingMyBest2010 · 15/02/2019 12:41

Not sure if it works on bleached hair, but my hair went a horrible colour of orange when I dyed it "chestnut". I washed it for a week of 2 with Head&Shoulders and now it's back to how it was before I messed up. Blonde hair with a yellow tint reacts well to silver toner (the purple stuff).

lpchill · 15/02/2019 13:55

Means when your hair grows out your going to be three colours the blonde, the tinted then your natural hair.

The blonde will go more ashy with purple shampoo. I highly recommend fudge shampoo and conditioner better than the silver touch stuff.

Either go back to the hairdressers or chalk it up to experience. This is the reason why I bleach and cut my own hair. If I mess it up it's my fault. (But I have had a lot less dissatisfied hair cut and colours doing it myself than when I used to go to the hairdressers)

Titsywoo · 15/02/2019 13:59

Exactly PCohle and ipchill! That's my biggest problem. I think the tint has ruined the whole thing and the roots part is just awful.

Bombardier25966 · 15/02/2019 14:04

Has she put a high lift on your roots? I have this problem too, won't let them do it anymore because I know what happens. They can tone it down but it needs more than a purple shampoo. Ring them and arrange to go back for them to correct it.

GinandGingerBeer · 15/02/2019 14:29

I think some have missed the point that the trainee has dyed the roots darker than the OP's natural hair.
It's not her natural root colour.
I don't know what to suggest but that's a mighty cock up. Sad

Freshstart40 · 15/02/2019 14:42

I think it looks lovely but I do see your point regarding the roots, especially if they are darker than your own natural hair colour. Doesn't toner usually wash out fairly swiftly? So it will fade? When I first had my highlights done they looked yellow to me but after a few washes calmed right down.

according · 15/02/2019 14:44

It needs toning properly. As per pp above, use Fudge Clean Blonde shampoo. Leave for at least ten minutes then rinse. Repeat over the next few days.

Agree that your hair looks nothing like the picture you wanted, but any half decent hairdresser should have explained to you that achieving that ashy grey blonde is a process; it really isn't something that can be done in a single appointment.

It took me a good six months to go from warm blonde highlights to ash grey.

picklemepopcorn · 15/02/2019 14:49

I think letting a trainee on your hair when they are charging that much is outrageous.
