City break in Feb - comfy shoes

DH and I are going to Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam and Paris for Easter and we'll be walking and walking. I want to look as good as I possibly can, I have recently lost weight and recovered from a horrible infection that made some of my hair fall out and gave me awful skin. I am slowly but surely getting there and I want to look my best, for myself and for DH who's been incredible. I am quite short, 5.1", size 10, all outfits look better on me with a bit of height, so I thought perhaps something like this?

I will be taking a capsule wardrobe of black skinnies, black, white and charcoal tops and the off scarf here and there.

Sorry, Brussels and Bruges in Feb, then Amsterdam and Paris at Easter!

They look comfy and stylish for day time city break walking.. they look quite high though... the height would hurt my feet.. but if you're use to wearing heels all day then yes get them!

I went to Brugge in February last year... beautiful place... but regarding walking be warned that all the streets are cobbled so definitely you need comfy!

And a hat and gloves! It was very very cold! Grin

elasticfantastic · 09/02/2019 15:05

The only reservation I'd have is the canvas uppers... if it's wet you'll have wet uncomfortable feet and the canvas will look dirty quickly if outside in wet weather

MandyFl0ss · 09/02/2019 15:40

Yes you make some good points. Perhaps I'll get the black ones. If it rains I intend to cosy up in a cafe and enjoy my time with DH Smile

Sketchers. The go walk ones (not massively trendy) they are sooo comfy

MandyFl0ss · 09/02/2019 16:40

I like them Frogs, just not high enough for me

Ecco shoes are always super comfy and have lovely soft leather. I have these, they are easy to wear daytime and evening.

Ecco are brilliant and their trainer styles aren't frumpy (MNers tend to accuse Ecco of that)
Fitflop leather trainers are also excellent, I have them in white and black.
But...I tried my first Skechers in September and oh my bloody fuck, it was better than sex. Grin

I’ve got a similar style shoe (from Geox) - they are so comfy they are my second pair (am also same size as you). I’ve walked miles in them but just knew they would be the moment I tried them on.

I’m also the same height/size as you!

MandyFl0ss · 09/02/2019 18:24

Is that the Geox Stardust you've got heidi? I really like them. The wedge seems a little lower so I am more inclined to get the Aldo ones. How do you find the Geox ones size wise? I notice they don't do half sizes. Ideally I'd like a 5.5.

I'm just an inch taller than you and I CBA to try and hide it with heels so I was going to suggest Stan Smiths. Leather, neutral and very comfortable. Personally I think if you are going to wear heel then trainers are not your shoe of choice, get some ankle boots with a block heel. Much more stylish.

MandyFl0ss · 09/02/2019 19:19

Count what do you mean by CBA?

CountFosco · 09/02/2019 21:09

CBA = can't be arsed.

WoahThereMama · 09/02/2019 22:46

I prefer the black Aldo ones. They have positive reviews re comfort. I guess you just need to order and see how comfortable they are.

heidivodca · 10/02/2019 15:14

Not sure on the first Geox pair - but the second pair are respira. I have small feet and 35 is perfect for me!

fishonabicycle · 10/02/2019 17:41

If you are doing a lot of walking (we always walk miles on city breaks), then forget the heel. You will look fine in one of the flat examples above. Or do you have any flat ankle boots (DMs/DM style are comfy and look really good). I'm just over 5 foot and don't bother with heels at all if I'm walking.

bingohandjob · 10/02/2019 18:10

Another vote for Fitflop leather trainers - I've walked for miles and days in them. Plain black leather, no logos. Geox, Ecco and Clarks Trigenic all good options too. Personally, for running up and down underground stations or pounding cobbled pavements I'd go for flats.

peachgreen · 10/02/2019 18:23

What about something like this OP? Bit more of a compromise between boots and trainers? They have a hidden wedge so will give you the added height but should be comfortable.

Blimey hellbent those look like tanks!!

Ladies I want to look good, not just comfortable. Good and comfortable. I need the height!!

I like the Wedgie Steve Madden booties!!

OP I think the Aldo one you chose originally but in black are perfect... get them Grin

peachgreen · 10/02/2019 22:53

They do them in a lovely grey colour as well OP. Just think they're a bit less consciously "I'm trying to be comfortable but also tall" than wedge trainers.
