If I wasn't already married I'd wear this for my winter wedding...

Apropos of nothing really, I just saw that dress and that's what I thought. :)
I remember really struggling to find something with integral sleeves that wasn't wafty, frilly or MOBish.
God, some lovely dresses on that website.

If I wasn't already married I'd wear this for my winter wedding...

We've just had to cancel our spring 2020 wedding venue as I very unexpectedly lost my job but I was going to wear...get ready for it...a PINK tea-length dress! 😍

Lweji · 08/02/2019 17:15

Get the pink version for 150 euros (my version) and get yourself a vow renewal!

YorkshireFatRascal · 08/02/2019 17:16

Thank you thank you thank you for posting this - it has given me hope. I am getting married next month and have nothing to wear. Not having a wedding as such, just register office and a meal afterwards with friendS. I want a nice dress but nothing too fussy. My go to for smart dresses is Hobbs but nothing had taken my fancy. I have tried all the other obvious high street shops but no luck. I have never come across Fold but some of their dresses look lovely and they have proper sleeves. I don't think I could get away with white (I am 50ish) Probably a bit out of my price range but I am going to search their site properly to see if I get lucky.

If anyone has any recommendations for other sites to look at I would be eternally grateful. I am out of the habit of buying nice clothes and need inspiration. I am size 14, want sleeves, love bright colours, hate anything frilly or fussy. My parter has his out fit sorted and I do not want to look s frump.

Lweji · 08/02/2019 17:18

@YorkshireFatRascal

The same dress is available in blush pink and much cheaper.

(not my favourite colour, but the alternative navy feels even less weddingy)

EstrellaDamn · 08/02/2019 17:20

I'm going to assume The Fold doesn't cater to Women Who Like Takeaway Too Much?

Lweji · 08/02/2019 17:20

Having said that, I'm late 40s and if I'm ever getting married again (I might have been considering it lately...), I'll bloody wear white/off white, even if in my 50s. Mostly because I can't stand pastels anyway.

QuaterMiss · 08/02/2019 17:23

Please Rascal - may I ask about the 'not getting away with white'? Who would stop you!

FWIW I'm older than you and fully intend to wear an extremely grand, full length, staggeringly expensive and dazzlingly white-ish dress if I should ever get married.

(I'm sure you'll look magnificent next month!)

OlennasWimple · 08/02/2019 17:27

Yorkshire - what's your budget? What is your fiance wearing?

Fraying · 08/02/2019 17:30

Ooh, they have some beautiful dresses and tops.

YorkshireFatRascal · 08/02/2019 17:33

My budget for a dress is about £200 but would go for £250 at a push. My partner is wearing a suit but no tie. He has a couple of colourful Paul Smith shirts to choose from and Camper shoes (his favourite shoe shop) He is more interested I clothes than me. I really do not want to wear white - think it makes me look sallow and hoping to get something I can wear to other events. I don't really like being the centre of attention but do want to look as good as I can.

Fraying · 08/02/2019 17:35

Does anyone know if they fit to size or small?

QuaterMiss · 08/02/2019 17:48

Bright, long sleeved, simple ...

QuaterMiss · 08/02/2019 17:51

Poosibly more wedding guest than bride?

YorkshireFatRascal · 08/02/2019 17:59

Thanks for the suggestions QuaterMiss. Not sure about asymmetrical dress (I never knew I was so hard to please) I will have I look at that site you linked too. I was dreading having to go shopping this weekend but I just need to focus on get on with it.

QuaterMiss · 08/02/2019 18:01

One last one! It's £100 over budget but rather lovely in its own way. And certainly wearable again. Bargain!

Ella1980 · 08/02/2019 18:24

Ateotd I think you should be allowed to wear whatever colour you like! My first wedding I wore a very traditional ivory dress. I was 24 and just "followed the crowd". But now I'm 38 and far braver, with a fiance who accepts the "real me". I'm going to go for a blush tea-length and I couldn't care less what anybody else thinks! I'm quirky and non-traditional and our whole day will reflect this 😊

OlennasWimple · 08/02/2019 19:27

Yorkshire

Lon sleeved white but polka dots (obviously needs styling differently...)

Asymmetric satin

Red silk crepe de chine with pockets!

As an aside, why are so many dresses with sleeves mini dresses? If I want to cover my arms (either for warmth or for coverage of wobbly bits) I probably want to cover my legs too

small2018 · 08/02/2019 19:34

My boss has that dress and it looks lovely on her.

XingMing · 08/02/2019 19:40

QuaterMiss, the red dress looks like something out of the Handmaid's Tale... I know modest is in, but I wouldn't ever have worn that, and I have worn most things, being over 60!

MitziK · 08/02/2019 19:58

It's atrocious Photoshop.

In other images, she's wearing a skirt with a length of 53cm (20") and one of 66cm (26"), both of which finish above her knees at the same place, give or take a couple of centimetres.

That dress measures 103cm and finishes below the skirts, being well on her knees, so allowing an extra 5cm for the lower length, that gives the entire top of her body a whole 103 - 7= 32cm, just over 12 inches, for her entire top half.

I'm a dumpy shortarse, but even my upper body length is significantly more than that.

WombOfHerOwn · 08/02/2019 20:01

You can get away with white at any age. A strapless princess gown might be a bit of a stretch but if you want white, wear it!

Bubastes · 08/02/2019 20:02

I like that dress, OP. But I'd prefer it with a longer skirt. It would make a good dress for a chic early 1970s wedding to a brilliant but tempestuous classical Russian conductor (orchestral not bus).

Bubastes · 08/02/2019 20:04

one of my thirty seven fantasy grooms ( e.g the young Salman Rushdie, Bobby Kennedy, the conductor Vladimir Jurowski, a boy I dated in 1995 who is now a neonatologist).

someone also mentioned a conductor! Maybe I read that comment without realising and immediately started retrospectively planning my 1972 wedding!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 08/02/2019 21:47

Thanks OlennasWimple I like the look of tbe red silk crepe de chine. Perfect length and pockets are a big plus on any dress.
