Good Morning

I have had my make up done for go out for a night out. I bought the same foundation she uses. But it just do3snt go on the same.

I use flash balm underneath but foundation still seems make my skin look dry or I don't look like I am wearing any after a couple of hours, despite using powder.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

Following!

Tiredeyes21 · 03/02/2019 07:32

What primer did she use? what foundation is it?
I’d have a look at some YouTube videos... that’s what I am doing as it amazes me how good people can do their makeup when they use the same brands as me?!!!

Boysandbuses · 03/02/2019 07:33

Forgot to say I used estee launder, the long lasting one and found it too heavy and the same clarins one that the make up artist used. And that seemed to slide off.

Thanks again.

It's the clarins one.

She also uses flash balm. It's like she has magic powers. Grin

Setting spray on top. I like ELF one in black bottle. The one from Revolution is meant to be good too. Urban Decay one, which is a lot more expensive, always comes out tops for setting sprays.

I used Estée Lauder for years, until I got fed up of "tide marks". It's horribly thick and doesn't look natural. The best ones are Chanel but way out of my budget so I use a light coverage one from M.A.C. It's really good!

Boysandbuses · 03/02/2019 07:46

Thank you, I will check out a setting spray and the MAC one.

Don't think my budget will currently spread to channel....sadly Grin

What do you use to apply the foundation? I'm no expert but I find using a damp beauty blender works really well and my foundation seems to last that way.

Boysandbuses · 03/02/2019 08:20

I have currently use the Charlotte Tilbury foundation brush. It's got a flat end to the brisles. For 'buffing' in. I tried a sponge which took far too long.

I do use Chanel, and on the instructions it says to apply with tigers!

NigellasGuest · 03/02/2019 13:12

FINGERS!!!

Boysandbuses · 03/02/2019 15:28

Sorry NigellasGuest that made me laugh.

That's some pricey application technique Grin

soberexpat · 03/02/2019 15:32

Guffawing at apply with tigers!!!

I'm old school and have always used my fingers. When I try the beauty blender it seems so wasteful as it all gets sucked into sponge, am I doing something wrong?

Jacksback · 03/02/2019 15:41

I use fingers too
Do have a foundation brush but CBa
Do you leave time for flash balm to settle ( if that’s the word ) before applying the foundation ?

About a minute or so? Should I leave it longer?

I have Chanel foundation and cc cream and alternate them use benefit primer, Chanel powder & nyx setting spray seems a lot writing it down.
I have to really moisturise as my skin is dry and foundation sticks weirdly to those people places if my skin isn’t prepped & that’s a waste of decent foundation.
I use Chanel because it makes my skin look dewy and fresh and I used advantage card points as it is expensive. I have a brush from body shop to apply and my fingers.
Email the mua and ask how to get it to stay on as you are having trouble?

Bluelady · 03/02/2019 16:11

I use a brush, lots of buffing in circular movements. You're really not supposed to see the foundation, it should look like skin.

Sarcelle · 03/02/2019 16:43

I quite like a squat little buffing brush for 3 quid from Primark. Much prefer it to my Mac and Real Techniques buffing brushes.

Jacksback · 03/02/2019 16:51

I don’t use flash but with a moisturiser I normally put that on
Then give it 5 mins or so ( Normally dry hair or do something else ) was just wondering as you say it seems to slip off as if you are not wearing anybody

CandleWithHair · 03/02/2019 19:47

I don’t think you’re meant to leave flash balm, it balls up if you move it after waiting in my experience. The quicker you get your foundation on the better!

I use a Tarte brush, flat and very soft bristles. Lots of buffing. Dermablend do a good setting powder, in summer I use Kate Somerville setting spray.

CandleWithHair · 03/02/2019 19:48

NB I actually don’t use flash under foundation, I use laura mercier primer

hatethinkingofusernames · 03/02/2019 20:47

Brushes! Brushes are key! I just brought some oval ones only from next and they're incredible and my make up goes on so so smoothly now!

sycamore54321 · 03/02/2019 21:00

I’ve never found the classic foundation brush shape to work for me. I always seem to end up with paint-brush style streaks, regardless of how much buffing I do.

What works best is called “stipple” technique, I think. Basically use the very tips of the brush to do lots of small dabs at a 90-degree angle to your skin. It’s harder to explain than to do! So instead of stoking your brush up and down on your face, hold it perpendicular to the skin and use the very tips of the bristles to dab it on in lots of repeated motions.

It requires way less skill than the traditional brush method and you could get away with doing a passable job without even a mirror if you needed to.

Give that a try before buying lots of primers and setting spray etc. if you’re not a huge makeup person, I find adding loads of extra steps and products mean I’m more likely to not bother with any of it at all as it becomes an enormous ritual.

You can try the “stipple” approach with pretty much any brush but in general a fatter brush with flat edge bristles works best.

@ktjb39

Exactly what I came on to say. Damp beauty blender is a good trick.

I use mac studio fix, have been using it for years now. A good rub in with fingers then dab the damp beauty blender over the whole face, a second layer of foundation over any bits that wear off quicker that others, dab over with the beauty blender again, on with the powder, dabbing it on with a brush rather than brushing in circles or rubbing it in,and back over with the beauty blender and a final dab of powder over forehead/nose/chin.

Drogosnextwife · 03/02/2019 21:09

I dont bother with primer. I find my base lasts longer without one.
