The life-changing magic of a home keratin treatment

Just that really. I have thin, highlighted slightly wavy mid-length hair with damaged ends which frizzes at the slightest hint of moisture in the air and looks like Worzel Gummidge when I wake up in the morning. I have to wash it every day, and I have wasted £££ on lotions and potions which don't work. Frizz-ease, I am looking at you....

I bought the purple home keratin treatment that comes up first on Amazon in November but put off trying it until after Xmas as I thought it would be a faff. Not so - absolutely everything's in the box. Took about an hour from start to finish, did not smell horrible or fill the air with fumes (smells pleasantly of chocolate/vanilla) and was easy to do on my own. Couldn't bear to leave it in for 3 days but I managed 2. Am washing daily as usual with the recommended salt-free shampoo and conditioner. And reader, it bloody well works! It is not poker straight, but that's not what I wanted. I just wanted hair that did not turn into candyfloss as soon as I left the house. I can wash and blowdry it quickly with no products and it stays looking that way all day. No frizz even in wet and windy weather. A miracle.

Just felt the need to share. Don't care if it doesn't last 3 months - I'l get 3 more treatments out of my £25 kit and it's so little trouble I'll happily do it monthly. Haven't used my straighteners since.

I need this. Does it have formaldehyde in it?

themagicamulet · 27/01/2019 12:33

No. I don't think any of them do these days

Is that the one called Brazilian Straight? I will try it as I have been going to a salon and spending a lot more!

Can you post a link to the product? I had mine done in a salon in November (£££)but it’s wearing off ( and wasn’t brilliant if I’m honest) so I’d like to have a go at home!

themagicamulet · 27/01/2019 12:38

Not great at links but it's called Brazilian Straight and is currently £26.99 on Amazon - in a purple box

Thanks! Found it. Does it make your hair look in better condition (ie not fuzzy and frizzy at the ends) or does it just straighten it? And is it horrible wearing the stuff in your hair before you wash it out?

WobbleTime · 27/01/2019 12:43

The hairdressers one I had done they washed out straight after. Before they washed it it felt horrible, sort of coarse and a bit sticky

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 27/01/2019 12:46

A word of caution: I did one and had a reaction to it, years later I still have a stubborn patch of scalp eczema that won’t clear no matter what I do. Do a patch test first!

themagicamulet · 27/01/2019 12:48

No - felt fine while I had it in. It was my own greasy hairedness I cdn't stand and that had me wash it out earler than 72 hours, not the product itself. And the overall effect is of general smoothness and better conditionedness, not poker straightness

Photo from this morning - I let it dry naturally for an hour or 2 while we had breakfast etc, then ran dryer quickly through it for 2 mins. For me this is miraculous - depends on yr starting point I suppose!

That is good! I might get some. My hair looks like yours (before) but wavy.

WobbleTime · 27/01/2019 12:56

Thanks! Your before hair pic looks exactly like mine! And your after pic looks great. Thank you for recommending I’m going to give it a go and save £130 quid at the hairdressers!

BartonHollow · 27/01/2019 12:57

I need this thanks OP for what it's worth your before pic hair looks lovely mine is like I've been dragged through a hedge the second I left the house

themagicamulet · 27/01/2019 13:01

Good luck - it's been great for me so hope it works for others! Off out into the wind and rain for a walk now - without fear!Smile

I've got mine on right now- day 3. This is the leftover stuff in the box from the first time I used it. FWIW, I didn't bother with the sulphide free shampoo at all because I have finally find a shampoo that works for me and it lasted about 4 months.

Thedogisdrivingmemad · 27/01/2019 17:57

How easy is it to do yourself and do you have to straighten it or just blow dry?

themagicamulet · 27/01/2019 19:50

Very easy. You just apply it with a brush (no harder and a lot less messy than a home hair dye), comb it through, blow dry it and run the straighteners through a few times.

BedraggledBlitz · 27/01/2019 22:57

I have a box in a cupboard. I've been putting off as it looked like a lengthy process. Also worried I'll lose the natural wave to my hair.

Yours looks good, might try it.

Roguebludger · 28/01/2019 07:45

Does this work for really curly hair? (ringlets)

Inliverpool1 · 28/01/2019 08:12

No it ruins your hair Rouge, short term gain for long term pain.

Roguebludger · 28/01/2019 08:16

Thanks, back to fighting the frizz then!

DavetheCat2001 · 28/01/2019 13:18

Rookie question..do these treatments damage your hair in the longer term or do they have any beneficial effects aside from superficially making your hair look smoother/straighter?

BaconPringles · 28/01/2019 13:26

Dave they do damage in the long run.
If you have any form of previously processed hair, I’d stay so far away!
