Ok, mid 50’s. Lifetime non smoker and high SPF sunscreen user (proper sunscreen, not added to moisturiser) . I have always been anti Botox. Want to age naturally, deplore the pressire on women to look a certain way. Think that women having Botox in their 20’s and early 30’s terrible insight endoghtment on how women are viewed in society BUT for the last 6 months seriously tempted. ... help ! Stay strong or give in? (Maybe this should be on feminism board) would love to hear from other women in my age group .

“Someone who purports to respect women should respect the choices they make whatever they are.”

Really? So feminists in your opinion should respect absolutely any decision another woman makes? Are you sure about that?

I''ve never heard of a culture of civilisations that didn't involve a degree of dressing up and self decoration and in many cases (including our own recent history) the men are as flamboyant as women, if not more so.

I think there's a difference with procedures where the primary purpose is to make you look younger (and looking tired or cross are symptoms of age too). But I'm not ideologically pure and I don't know anyone who is. I call myself republican but hell I still enjoy a royal wedding and dip into the royals thread. I also shave my legs - I just don't pretend I do it because I enjoy it.

I struggle with this. I’m very much a feminist but I am also vain/insecure (same thing?)

The things currently putting me off Botox are:
a) The ongoing costs (I gather it needs redoing every so often)
b) Keeping it a secret from my kids OR admitting that I’m a hypocrite (as I am always telling them the looks are unimportant)
c) Being pleased with the result and then spotting loads of other things that ‘need’ to be changed

I completely agree waterlego and have thought about all those points. Plus would I be happy if dcs had a cosmetic procedure they didn't need? Because how could I object if I had.

Of course a feminist can use Botox. Many do. If you are going to get Botox, do it and be happy about it. Misery feminism is a waste of women's energy, money and time.
