Comfortable bra for daughter with sensory issues

Posting here for traffic. My dd 14 has SCD, is on the autistic scale and has sensory issues. She hates wearing bras, I have bought her those little crop top bralette things and whilst she tolerates them a bit more she still takes them off at the earliest opportunity. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Do you know specifically what she doesn't like? Is it the closeness of the material, the scratchiness of lace or a label?

TheSpottedZebra · 17/01/2019 10:04

Can she wear a vest top thing, or just not bother with bra at all?

DannyOD · 17/01/2019 10:05

She says it's the feel of it around her ribcage/back. Like it's something gripping round her. As I am typing I am become more aware of MY bra!!!

Try a range of different styles and see what works. T shirt bras, underwired or non wired. Maybe sports bras to give her support but not feel like a bra?

DannyOD · 17/01/2019 10:07

She said to me this morning she wouldn't wear one at all except for PE days but if she got into the habit of not putting it on she might forget on PE day!! I suggested perhaps an alarm on her phone on those days!!

There’s something in Next called a lounge bra. It’s the only one my dad will wear as it’s so comfy. Let me just find the link

DannyOD · 17/01/2019 10:09

I assume you didn't mean to type Dad!! Grin

Have a look at Molke

IamFrauBlucher · 17/01/2019 10:09

Somebody mentioned to me that Debenhams have a range of vests with built in bra cups op? I haven't checked myself but might be worth looking into?

Then there's that Aahbra advertised on tv?

Does she have a large cup size? Gets a bit more awkward if that's the case, as you need the support of the band.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 17/01/2019 10:09

Here it is, non itchy according to dad

Thanks I will look into those suggestions. No she is a 32 B so not large luckily.

For the record my dad doesn’t wear bras!!! Bloody autocorrect

hazeyjane · 17/01/2019 10:10

John Lewis does a good sports bra, very soft but supportive.

GladAllOver · 17/01/2019 10:11

Is she very large up top? If not there's no need at all for a bra except possibly for sports. Couldn't she have one in with her sports kit?

DannyOD · 17/01/2019 10:11

Thanks Emoji - that looks good!!

Victoria secret do a range of non wired bras that are made from really soft material and some with stretchy backs - very comfortable.

Doesn’t everyone take their bra off as soon as they can????

TheSpottedZebra · 17/01/2019 10:18

Maybe also try the 'secret support' vests, so a vest top with invisible cups. Everywhere does them, pretty much.

And for a soft bra top thing, I oddly like sainsburys. Super cheap, and the one in the marl fabric is the softest.

DannyOD · 17/01/2019 10:21

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have ordered her a pack of Aah Bras (never heard of them before - Mumsnet is wonderful!!) Fingers crossed they help.

Uni Qlo do some super comfy seamless bras, like this one www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-wireless-beauty-light-bra--404256.html

Swiftier · 17/01/2019 15:00

Sorry, that ones wireless, this is seamless www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-heather-relax-wireless-bra-414908.html

what about those soft fabric ones by jml? i have a couple that i use for yoga (nice soft and comfy when i move, not for jumping in though!) - not a huge amount of support for big ole droopy ones like mine but i should imagine would be fine for a teenager, no hooks, no underwire, not too tight. i think they are about £20 for a pack of 3.

PinkBuffalo · 17/01/2019 15:45

I have some issues too OP and I've found very very soft bras in tesco clothes section recently. Non wired and incredibly soft. I think they were part of a new range, but they are the only thing I've found since we lost bhs where I used to buy softy bras.
Might be worth a punt? They weren't expensive

Belishaa · 17/01/2019 15:59

I'm 33B, and I'm perfectly happy without a bra. I don't have any problem wearing one, but the only benefit I get is the padding!

So I would happily let her go without.
