Winter moisturiser advice

madcow78 · 11/01/2019 18:50

I'm after a recommendation for a good moisturiser that won't cause spots. I have combination skin which has always been prone to spots so haven't really bothered with moisturiser until last year. I have been using LRP Anthelios XL since the summer and it's been great, I've noticed an improvement in my skin. I could do with something for the winter though as my face is definitely tending to be drier now, and having hit 40, I think I should start taking care of it a bit better. Any advice for where to start?

I have combination skin too and this winter have started using Nuxe oil on my face several evening a week. My skin is softer and it’s helped keep my skin tone more even, previous winters I often have redder cheeks.

I say Nivea soft on all these threads and no one takes any notice. Saying that, no one thinks I'm 54 either 😂

PlumpSyrianHamster · 11/01/2019 19:57

Simple. The rich one, think it's called replenishing.

MadisonMontgomery · 11/01/2019 19:58

Yep Nivea soft is fab, and ridiculously cheap!

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 11/01/2019 20:01

I use Nivea in the dark blue pot. I saw an experiment online where it was tested against some expensive stuff and it won, hands down.

Willing to give Nivea Soft a go though.

I use Nivea Soft too, Awks- you’re not wrong. For extra bloom and softness I add a couple of drops of Rose oil. I’m fact, I’d say you can add rose oil to any good cheap moisturiser and get the same result, if not better, than any of the expensive creams. (I still wash face with soap and water most of the time too Grin)

buckeejit · 11/01/2019 23:08

Any particular brand of rose oil good?

SophieGiroux · 11/01/2019 23:22

I like pixi rose oil.
Neals yard is also ok but seems thicker and more likely to cause spots.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 11/01/2019 23:29

Akin is good, buck

Delatron · 12/01/2019 09:30

You could try a serum with hyaluronic acid (very moisturising) for anti-ageing add in a vitamin c serum. Then still use an spf, even in winter. If you need extra moisturiser between these steps then yes a Nivea type one is fine.

Babygrey7 · 12/01/2019 09:32

LRP do a vit b5 cream which is great in winter (in summer my skin barely needs anything)

BusterGonad · 14/01/2019 04:56

Nivea blue for very dry skin, Nivea soft for normal dry skin (or Astral).
Nivea blue came out on top when it went against creme de la Mer!

SpeckledyHen · 14/01/2019 05:53

Nivea soft for day and Nivea blue tin for night .

Thishatisnotmine · 14/01/2019 06:18

Nivea night cream is so good! I do get hormonal spots so I can't comment on how it effects those. I am trying nip & fab wipes with salycilic (?) acid and hylauronic acid so I'm hoping too see pimple reduction and extra spots from that.

Thishatisnotmine · 14/01/2019 06:18

Extra soft, not spots.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/01/2019 07:08

I like

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 14/01/2019 07:08

Oops
Nivea soft but have gone off the smell Sad

etnagreen · 14/01/2019 08:04

LRP cicaplast balm B5 is fantastic!

fishonabicycle · 14/01/2019 10:40

Nivea soft is great, but no SPF.

stayfit · 14/01/2019 14:14

Thanks for this, I have been experiencing some dryness after stating retinol (indeed labs one). LRP and Clinique moisture surge didn't cut it so I have just bought myself a huge Nivea cream and it's feeling better this morning.

Fashionista101 · 14/01/2019 15:27

The ordinary. I love it

FloofyDoof · 14/01/2019 15:57

My daughter uses nivea soft, my skin hates it though, it breaks me out. Cerave is good, I like nutrogena hydro boost gel cream too. It's non greasy, has hyaluronic acid and works well. On offer for £6.50 on amazon at the moment too.

madcow78 · 14/01/2019 22:20

Thanks all for the advice. I bought some Nivea soft at the weekend and tried it out yesterday. I think it will be ok as a night cream, but left my skin a bit greasy for daytime. The thing I liked about the LRP cream was that I could put it on just before my foundation and it kept my skin nice and matte.
I'm looking at the Neutrogena hydro boost as a possible day option but not sure if I should go for the gel cream or the water gel?

Nivea Soft is the bomb.

ChishandFips33 · 14/01/2019 23:53

I'm finding my face is feeling hot and stingy (like windburn) but I'm just sat in the house (heating not blaring though) - suspect it may be an age thing!

Anyhow, I've just bought the LRP Cisaplast balm b5 off the back of this thread. Liked that it came in a smaller tube for £6.50 so I could try it.

Seems rich and soothing so far on first go...fingers crossed!
