Good looking backpack for commuting

weallhavedreams · 05/01/2019 11:45

Hi guys,

Hoping you can all help with some recommendations for stylish backpacks that will work for my commute (2.5hrs each way on trains/walking) and hold a 13" laptop.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my neck, back and accompanying headaches and think my days of shoulder bags are over. I've looked over some old threads and can see things like thr Fact + Fiction Charli, Sandqvist, aspinalls etc. suggested previously so just after some up to date suggestions. The Sandqvist and Aspinalls are a little out of budget perhaps.

I love the Charli but is it REALLY comfortable or is it more fashion focused?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

I haven't got a fashionable one but trawled last year to find one that is

  • Laptop fit
  • Plenty of useful pockets
  • Comfy straps
  • Narrower straps to fit me (I'm smallish and normal rucksacks are built for average bloke and they just don't fit properly which kind of ruins the whole point!)

If interested I can try google the one I got.

I looked at good looking ones and they didn't seem so practical / comfy sadly.I expect there is something at very top end of scale that satisifes both but probably you need to be in the know and £££!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 05/01/2019 11:52

found it anyway here

I thikn it's not bad looking tbh and is v comfy. Think you are after something prettier though!

convertible
laptops-up-to-15-6-inch-grey/p3689574 security

Lots of better looking ones in John Lewis Sale but I like these features.

PolkaDoting · 05/01/2019 11:56

Knomo

Cuntcuntcunt · 05/01/2019 11:56

Honestly I’ve tried loads and the best one for my back is a butt ugly Karrimor Urban 30 that was under £20

NothingOnTellyAgain · 05/01/2019 11:58

If you are having neck back trouble then the most important thing is that it fits you.

I found it quite hard finding one that was narrow enough but also fit laptop etc

I'd try them on if at all poss.

I like the Gandys backpacks and the company was set up two boys who lost their parents in the 2004 tsunami, a % of money from sales goes to charity

TigerBreadAddict · 05/01/2019 12:01

I like the accessorise ones. I prefer decent straps as opposed to spaghetti straps which dig in.

Thanks guys!

I've seem the knomo ones @polkadoting - will take another look.

That antler one isn't too bad actually @NothingOnTellyAgain thanks!

@cuntcuntcunt (great name) thanks - I know, I use similar for home but I travel for work (often european day trips) and can imagine my bosses face if I didn't look "polished" Hmm

I got an Osprey women's fit with chest and waist straps. Not pretty but not black and fits me (and my laptop).

TigerBreadAddict · 05/01/2019 12:21

You're welcome OP. As a result of this thread I have just ordered another backpack from Accessorize in the sale. Oops.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 05/01/2019 12:22

You can never have too many backpacks!

babysharkah · 05/01/2019 12:25

I've been looking for years and still haven't found the answer. I have a leather one from that does look really nice but it's narrow I can fit lap top, day book and water bottle but if I need cables and a whole load of other toot it's not enough. If I'm travelling it's no good, so following with interest!

I want leather, not nylon / fabric and it needs to be wide enough. I don't think it exists!

weallhavedreams · 05/01/2019 12:30

@babysharkah it certainly seems that way! I just want beautiful, comfortable AND practical. Is that too much to ask?

Also randomly Clark’s had a great one, I noticed it in store I’ve not looked at their website.

Villanellesproudmum · 05/01/2019 12:40

It was in the men’s section

Wisteria1979 · 05/01/2019 12:50

Knomo has a really good selection of both nylon and leather bags in a variety of sizes. They are pricey but really worth it if you like a nice looking bag and have a long commute.

OpposableThumbs2 · 05/01/2019 12:57

I have a Herschel one which I love. Really comfortable and lots of pockets for everything.

NotMeNoNo · 05/01/2019 13:01

But then I work in engineering so nylon backpack is a universal look.

Hobbes8 · 05/01/2019 13:07

I’ve got a zatchels leather one:
www.zatchels.com/collections/new-year-sale/products/dark-brown-leather-city-backpack?variant=12100028694570

I love the look, but it’s not that comfortable if you have to walk far. And it’s quite rigid so there’s not much room for other stuff. It comes in a pretty green colour though!

UatuTheWatcher · 05/01/2019 13:10

Sorry OP I don’t know if these are any good or if they’re available here but I just love their advert.
