Good looking backpack for commuting

weallhavedreams · 05/01/2019 11:45

Hi guys,

Hoping you can all help with some recommendations for stylish backpacks that will work for my commute (2.5hrs each way on trains/walking) and hold a 13" laptop.

I've been having a lot of trouble with my neck, back and accompanying headaches and think my days of shoulder bags are over. I've looked over some old threads and can see things like thr Fact + Fiction Charli, Sandqvist, aspinalls etc. suggested previously so just after some up to date suggestions. The Sandqvist and Aspinalls are a little out of budget perhaps.

I love the Charli but is it REALLY comfortable or is it more fashion focused?

Thanks in advance.

I love my Roka backpack- I use it daily on my commute and it is holding up really well as well as looking reasonably stylish for a backpack. Otherwise try Knomo.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 05/01/2019 14:15

I have a Knomo. Used it yesterday for an overnight stay for a theatre trip.

It was very comfy, even when full. Held: clothes for today, dress/underwear/heels for last night, wash bag, make up bag, swimming costume, hairbrush, A5 diary, phone charger.

Would easily hold lap top and cables, phone charger, make up and wash bag, clothes for following day plus spare shoes so ideal for my work trips. I love it!

I love my Herschel which people keep commenting on that they like. It has a pattern designed by a Californian textile Co. I got fed up up of always having plain black backpacks.

Skinandbones · 05/01/2019 23:50

I've been buying mine from the healthy back bag, they are all the same style with on comfortable strap but lots of different sizes and prices.

LoversLane · 06/01/2019 07:48

These are lovely and environmentally friendly

I'm on the lookout too and this thread has been v useful. I like the look of the Lefrik one. One of my prerequisites is an accessible pocket to put my train ticket in so don't have to open the whole bag

mashpot · 06/01/2019 08:11

Already mentioned but I just requested a Roka bag for Christmas after looking for a while for a bag to lug my laptop around in. I love it but can’t comment on longevity yet!

At the cheaper end of the scale I've just found the Kroser ones on amazon. They fit the bill with respect to external pockets

Twodogsandahooch · 06/01/2019 08:13

Mashpot- really like the roka bag. Unfortunately sold out in black

I’ve got a Tumi, it’s brill. A bit pricey but they’ve got a fab sale on now, might buy another. Brilliant quality and last a lifetime, justifies the price for me. uk.tumi.com/women/backpacks-slings/

Qwstion think they are Dutch

DerelictWreck · 06/01/2019 09:12

I came online to start this exact thread! Thanks OP!

Have been looking in the John Lewis sales etc and was also drawn to Sandqvist but wasn't convinced I wanted hat material, ideally looking for something a bit smarter.

Problem is all the leather ones etc don't usually have decent straps! Found a good samsonite one which is the best of both but was pale cream so not for me. Will check out all these ones now though!

TheApprentice · 06/01/2019 09:13

Osprey Flapjill. It's designed for women

LateToTheParty · 06/01/2019 09:15

Mia Tui do a vegan "leather" laptop backpack called Sydney. I don't have it but have other bags they make & pleased with the quality & customer service:

Great thread!

I have this leather Eastpack one, which I googled after seeing a stylish Spanish woman wearing it in the Tate Smile The leather wears in and softens and it looks great.

Also have seen some nice things in Ally Capellino as recommended by stylish colleague who seems to have a handle on dilemmas such as this!

My DD has a Mi Pac. She has used it for 3 years now and it is just starting to look a little tatty. She uses it for uni and it carries a lot of stuff and has very comfortable and strong shoulder straps.
She has this one www.mi-pac.com/backpacks/original-backpacks/mi-pac-gold-backpack-tumbled-black.htm

anniehm · 06/01/2019 09:32

Dankine make a huge range, dd swears by them

BubblesBuddy · 06/01/2019 12:05

DD has to lug a lot of kit around for her job. So the only practical solution is a wheeled case. No one doing her job would ever consider a back pack! Definitely do not get a back pack with back problems!

The wheeled case of choice is Wenger. Swiss made and sturdy. Back packs just get in the way of other travellers. Cases are a way better solution.
