Girls first bra 25C???

tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/01/2019 16:45

Can anyone help with a first bra? I’ve measured DD almost 10, she’s coming up as 25’’ around the band and 28’’ around the bust. That would make a 30C in the old way of measuring and a 25C in the new way Confused. She’s been in crop tops for a long time but really she needs something a bit more supportive. Not sure really what is out there, even 30C is hard to find. Any ideas?

I have no advice but think you are really going to struggle. 28 bands are notoriously difficult to come by.

Jolonglegs · 04/01/2019 16:52

28 seems to be the smallest band size, so suggest you try a 28A or 28B. I seem to remember struggling with my DD when she was younger. Needed support but none seemed small enough. Good luck

dementedpixie · 04/01/2019 16:53

Maybe 26B but you don't really get that size so you're probably looking at 28A. Debenhams/M&S do teen bras in that size

tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/01/2019 16:55

Thanks everyone, I think I’ve just got to order some and try them on. I’ll post back in case it’s useful for someone else.

Matalan seem to sell them too

mummmy2017 · 04/01/2019 16:58

Asda do them, order online collect in store.

coconutwheel · 04/01/2019 17:22

Try an M&S 28 b or c - we find they come up very small in the back in the teen range.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/01/2019 17:32

brasizecalculator.eu This website was good if anyone is interested. She came out as 28a which is doable.

ASDA didn’t have any online, Matalan and Debenhams were both good. I’ve just found the M&S 28b so will try them as well.

Thanks!

That bra size calculator seems to use the old way of measuring.

I'm a 30DD or 32D depending on style and make but that calculator has me as 34B which is definitely not the right size (though I wore that size for many years and thought I must just be an odd shape as they didn't fit).

Do your best to find something with a small enough band and big enough cup for your daughter. I know that will be difficult, and you have my sympathy as I'm going to have to do it in a while - I have a very slender teen daughter myself.

teta · 04/01/2019 17:52

Dd2 is a size 4/6 and M&S told her she should get a size 34 bra 😂🥺.
I just looked at the assistant in horror and said I’m 34 and a size 14? I think I mortally offended her as we were ignored after that.
But then the 30’s in Angel were too tight according to Dd so we got a 32 aa. But she wouldn’t let me see how they fit. I suspect it’s very loose.
She’s at the age when her Mum knows nothing and I’m too tired to argue after a Xmas holiday with 3 13/14 year olds.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/01/2019 18:50

I’ve just checked myself on that website, I’m a 32F and it has that as my ‘tertiary ‘ size, whatever that means! My primary size is a 34 DD which definitely isn’t right Hmm

I’ve ordered some for DD, 28B and 28A so we’ll just have to try.... definitely not going to M&S!

Might be worth looking at Rixie clips to help pull the bands in a bit. As she's still relatively small she'll also be able to get away with the band being a bit looser - obviously the need for snugness increases with breast weight!

I wouldn't go anywhere above a 28 though.

LambChopsMcGee · 04/01/2019 21:57

I'd suggest going to Bravissimo to have a chat, even though the cup sizes will likely be too big. They are very knowledgeable and helpful.

WeaselsRising · 04/01/2019 22:15

Having similar issues with my 11 yo. The new method of measuring doesn't seem to work for children. We started out with 28a in Matalan and Debenhams but they are too tight now.

She is 27 round the ribs and 31 bust. We've gone up to 32AA in the teens ranges and they seem to fit. The bands clearly don't measure 32 because they are tight.

Isn't it about time bras were sized as 2 numbers, like men's trousers? so a 28/32 would have a band of 28 inches and an overall size of 32. Much easier to understand.

pileoflaundry · 04/01/2019 22:24

The best solution I found for needing a smaller band was to sew on a bra extender onto the back of the bra, so that the hooks could be hooked further along the fabric (in effect, using the extender as a shortener). You'd need a sewing machine or determination, and take care as sewing a non-stretchy extender onto the elastic of the bra will make the bra much less stretchy, which will shorten it too. So don't do what I did and sew the extender too far along the band, and be unable to breathe in the shortened bra.

You can also cheat/save money and not buy an extender. Instead, cut off the section of the band which has the 'eyes' (that the hooks go into) and sew it further along the band.

dementedpixie · 04/01/2019 22:30

WeaselsRising your dd needs a bigger cup not a bigger back size. Try 28C/D or 30B/C

tasmaniandevilchaser · 04/01/2019 22:53

Thanks this is all really useful!

KatharinaRosalie · 05/01/2019 15:58

27 round the ribs and 31 yes 28A will certainly be too tight, as the cup is too small.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 05/01/2019 18:24

Well the Debenhams 28a bras arrived and although they fit ok and were surprisingly good fit around the band, they were more revealing than her crop tops, so not really suitable for getting changed for PE.

The 28 B bras from JL were ok as well but the moulded cups stuck out when she leant forward and were much looser round the band. They might fit better in a few months at the rate she’s growing!

Sigh! Not sure the trainer bras are much more supportive than a crop top so I’m not sure why I’m bothering.

Another thought - whose Y 5/6 age DDs are getting changed in the classroom with the boys for PE? For me it’s getting to the stage where they should be separate but this doesn’t seem to happen at her school.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 18:48

I would maybe use crop tops for a wee while longer if she is only 9. My dd had some that looked like sports bras. Think they were from asda

pileoflaundry · 05/01/2019 20:27

If the Debenhams bras are a good supportive fit, can she wear them with the crop tops on top for coverage?

WeightWatching2019 · 05/01/2019 20:30

You can get 26 bands from some Polish brands - have a google, look on eBay.

Weasels please do not put your daughter in a 32 band with those measurements! She needs proper support!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 05/01/2019 21:02

Thanks demented pixie, I’ve ordered some of those crop tops

Cherries101 · 05/01/2019 21:08

Have you checked Victoria’s Secret’s sports bras? Designed for girls / young teens but would probably fit your dd based on the measurements
