Boden

What do we all think of Boden these days? I heard they're trying to move away from the frumpy mum image and market to a target audience. I still buy from them but regular disappointed at the lack of natural fines on offer and general randomness of some of their designs.

I've given up on them. Quality is worse now and I don't like anything much on there at the moment.

BadMoodBoard · 04/01/2019 10:01

I have also given up on them completely. The prices are just ridiculous. The clothes for kids of age 10 to 16 is completely out of touch with reality.

Eve · 04/01/2019 10:51

I really like them - very easy to order from, quick delivery and easy returns.

I have bought quite a bit this year and also in the sales.

Also finding the patterns are much less than they used to be.

Bought 2 of these in the sale

and these dresses are great for work,

Made in China overpriced clothes run by an alleged Brexiteer making a fortune using cheap labour
I would pay that price for clothes make in Europe, or in decent factories and for good quality.

LaPampa · 04/01/2019 11:16

I found a quote from him (albeit DM) in 2016 saying he voted in.

I bought a nice velvet skirt from there just before Christmas which has been good but it really does seem to be the odd on-off thing that appeals rather than the whole magazine.

khaleesi71 · 04/01/2019 11:20

I read an interview by him (a few years ago) in which he said his clothes are for mums to look their part (school run, dinner party etc) rather than be or feel sexy. Never brought anything from them since.

Clionba · 04/01/2019 11:33

He and his wife are friends of the Camerons, if that affects anyone's choices! Politically a remainer, but a staunch Tory.
Politics aside, I don't rate the quality now, it used to be better.

planespotting · 04/01/2019 11:33

@khaleesi71 I can see that. Sad.

Stopwoofing · 04/01/2019 11:38

particularly the knitwear quality is not what it was - I've 10 year old boden jumpers that are in great condition and newer ones that I've had to throw after a year as irretrievably tatty.

Their dresses are flattering for a certain type of slightly bottom heavy, not as young as I once was person, I still buy too much boden and agree their ponte is lovely (if not terribly long lasting either).

Stopwoofing · 04/01/2019 11:39

they clearly moved slightly downmarket quality wise when they became uber successful. I also think they are pricing in discounts so the sticker price is always and increasingly a bad joke.

I have no idea how anyone can get remotely excited about anything from the likes of Boden, it's so unimaginative!

Stopwoofing · 04/01/2019 11:46

Me too - check out their cord dresses in the sale, love them as you don't have to iron, chuck on with leggings etc. The velvet tops I got definitely made me feel a bit sexy, I agree I don't have impossibly high standards in sex appeal :) They've done a good job of the velvet ventures the last few christmases im(very stylish) opinion

VanCleefArpels · 04/01/2019 12:19

just been on holiday wearing a 10 year old Boden swimsuit still in great condition. I also bought a new one this year and while stylistically it looks the same it is definitely cut ever so slightly more skimpily. Sums it up for me. It is a rare purchase for me who used to be a Boden uniform wearer in my 30's

ArkAtEee · 04/01/2019 13:38

Not much I like these days. Having said that, I love the yellow stripe silk shirt in the catelog, although it would look hideous on me Grin

Fakingit36 · 04/01/2019 15:09

Agree about quality and price but have found the ottoman work dresses very useful , a good shape and washable. I appreciate the tall size because it means they are long enough in the body and length, which is often a problem with dresses.

explodingkitten · 04/01/2019 16:18

I read an interview by him (a few years ago) in which he said his clothes are for mums to look their part (school run, dinner party etc) rather than be or feel sexy. Never brought anything from them since.

Apparantly I'm the target market then. I love Boden exactly for this reason. I want practical clothes that look nice on me. I don't want to strut around in sexy clothes, that makes me feel like a throw away blow up doll for mens pleasure. (I realise that I might have some issues there)

Ellapaella · 04/01/2019 16:23

Haven't bought hardly anything from them for myself (have bought for DC) for a long time. I bought a sun dress in the summer which is lovely but aside from that haven't seen much that's caught my eye or that is worth the price tag.

khaleesi71 · 04/01/2019 21:44

Exploding kitten Jonny Biden wants middle class women to look the part for their successful husbands so they don't look too attractive, but look nice, functional. It's the pearl clutching equivalent of a blow up doll I stopped buying those clothes because I was manipulated into that ideal.

pinkground202 · 04/01/2019 22:07

I bought a cardi coat knit a few weeks ago, wore it 3 times and it looks so bobbled and tatty. I have it parcelled up to return it. It was £80ish as far as I remember. Dreadful quality.

JinglingHellsbells · 04/01/2019 22:19

I buy less and less. I have bought from them since the started over 20 years ago when it was all very 'country jackets and corduroys'.

I pick up the occasional plain item- a summer dress, cardis, plain trousers- but it rarely changes each season.

I either don't like the colours or don't like the styles.

I find it hard to find any brand that I really like.

In the past I'd buy from Jigsaw- now crazy prices except in sales. White Stuff has gone weird and down the pan IMO.

I have a smart-casual lifestyle, so don't need 'office' clothes, and Boden used to fit the bill but a lot is frumpy, all high necks and either twee prints, garish colours or plain navy/ black.

Betty777 · 04/01/2019 22:40

If I looked through my wardrobe I would find more than I'd like to admit to

It's not sexy, it's not cool, but lots of the items are damn useful for real life (and if you stay away from the patterns nobody has to know)

I'm relatively new to the brand but I've not had problems with the quality - less so than all the other brands I wear

moresproutspleasemum · 04/01/2019 22:44

With their generous returns policy I wonder how they survive now the quality is so much poorer...surely everyone just ends up returning their stuff?

OP posts:
maxiflump1 · 04/01/2019 22:44

I've noticed the quality of the basics has decreased over the years. Their Breton tops are now so thin and lose their shape in the wash. The kids clothes is still quality.

Their new catalogue arrived yesterday and I was especially horrified at this little number!

Boden
wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 04/01/2019 22:46

I like it. I have long legs and they make a slightly longer skirts. The quality and returns are good. I like that the girls trousers for my daughter are thick and warm. I find the clothes hard wearing.
