best vitamin c serum you can recommend?

tempted by Keihls 12.5% line reducing serum but it’s pricey - wondered if anyone had used it or could sing the praises of one they have used?

thank you @loliver123 I have someone who is recommended to me, she's a qualified nurse who set up her own clinic - I didn't realise the person had had it done, she just looked...better and fresher...so I think she's a good advert.
I already have sagging droopy eyes [such a joy at 33, I've got all the best bloody genes!] so it's been a real concern.

Lotta I live in a very humid climate, but a bit colder at the moment, so I put vit C cream, leave for 10 mins and then a moisturiser on top.

I hear you just layer things on. But just use one 'active ingredient' cream a day. So I sometimes use Vit C, sometimes the retinol one. Prefer Vit C, it makes a HUGE difference to me!

WendyCope · 06/01/2019 12:44

darlingShelby do give it a go! Grin Ignore the 'stinging' feeling you will get at first. It will go away. To me it's a sign of it working! It's just vitamin C, but in a very pure form in a cream.

ABigBraclet · 06/01/2019 13:14

I bought the GoW vit c yesterday, off the back of this thread.

mmmgoats · 06/01/2019 13:17

Let us know how you get on @abigbraclet

I have tried the Ordinary 23% one. It stung so much I had to rinse it off and my face was still bright red the next morning. So no instant results sadly! I persevered with but it kept causing irritation.

I do really like Ordinary products usually but I've never reacted to any other Vit C serum. Maybe it was just too strong for my skin.

ABigBraclet · 06/01/2019 14:26

Yes, ok mmmgoats.

I only did so because The Ordinary's product list was overwhelming, especially the level of percentages and such! I don't know what regimen I need so there's eveey chance I could order items totally unsuitable for my face.
Vitamin C seems far less intimidating.

mmmgoats · 06/01/2019 14:27

@abigbraclet agreed - I get a bit boggled reading through it all and when I went into their spital fields shop the staff weren’t particularly helpful.
I’m finding the skincare threads on here useful though!

That doesn't muster up much confidence for me, as I thought it'd be good to visit a store and get tailored advice suited to my needs.

How have you received advice. Did you post a photo of your skin or something?

darlingShelby · 06/01/2019 17:41

Wendy the Ordinary website says you can dilute it in something. I’m thinking a cicaplast type moisturiser?
Did you do that to start, and is your skin at all sensitive? Smile

WendyCope · 06/01/2019 17:41

If you email them with what result you are after, I believe they email straight back. My friend did it and found them really helpful for her sunspots! They suggested what she should order.

I order everything online as I live abroad.

Yes, it stings, but it works. But I agree, if you have really sensitive skin it probably isn't for you!

WendyCope · 06/01/2019 17:45

darling Hi! No I don't dilute it with anything but only use it every other day or three days. My skin is not at all sensitive though.

I, too, got put off by reviews but it literally is a miracle product for me. A well known poster recommended it to me on the DRY thread last January and I haven't looked back!!

I think they do something called 'buffet' which is the next thing I'm going to try.. meant to be a bit of everything!

WendyCope · 06/01/2019 17:46

… the website makes me a bit dizzy though!

darlingShelby · 06/01/2019 18:12

Thanks Wendy
I think l will try and introduce slowly with moisturiser! Smile
I’ve used Buffet ( twice) l don’t think it’s that vital if you are using VitC / retinol type products...
But see if you like it.
Another fantastic product(s) are the Superdrug serums. Simply pure. They have great ingredients and are so cheap! They have a day and night!

darlingShelby · 06/01/2019 18:13

Woops!
Just remembered you said you live abroad - sorry 😐

WendyCope · 06/01/2019 19:24

Thanks darling I come home often and have tried it! It's good, then estee lauder night repair $$$$ and now this and I haven't looked back. It's a wonder cream for me.

Put it on at night and sleep with it on. The sting lasts a couple of minutes, voila! you wake up all dewy and fresh! Every other day is good. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

I love it.

Thing is here, in summer is soooo hot, definitely no retinol, I thought buffet might be a good try. I'll give it a go. Might email them for advice as I also want a sooper dooper face spf. I'm 48 so need some help.

Vit C takes years off you! Good luck with it!

Didsomeonesaybunny · 06/01/2019 19:36

Not a serum rather a cleanser is Clinque’s fresh pressed which I really like.

Serum: drunk elephant and Sunday Riley

flintfoxy · 06/01/2019 19:57

YummyMummy45 · 06/01/2019 23:22

REN - Flash Rinse 1 minute facial VIT C
This is absolutely amazing! Read reviews on this - Marks and Spencer now stock this - you will see instant results it really does what is says on the package!

AwdBovril · 06/01/2019 23:27

I've also been impressed by the Melano CC. Hated The Ordinary 23%. It stung on application, gritty, didn't last very long (quite a thick texture), made my skin look slightly oilier. It especially stung if I had any dry patches, or if it was a cold or windy day & I had to go out straight after doing my face. Bleugh. So glad I've found a replacement.

darlingShelby · 06/01/2019 23:53

Thanks again Wendy you’ve convinced me to try 🙃

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 07/01/2019 17:09

@TheMythicalChicken, yes! The first ingredient is water, so what?

Secondly, mica is only "questionable" if you are allergic to it. If not that I see no reason to scaremonger her.

TheMythicalChicken · 07/01/2019 18:23

MissLanesAmericanCousin Mica is controversial because it is mined by small children in India.

And all Peter Thomas Roth products are tested on animals.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 07/01/2019 18:45

@TheMythicalChicken, well you're going to find those types of practices most everywhere you look. Perhaps, something more PC, like Drunk Elephant which I love. I own the baby facial, the marula oil and the Protini moisturizer. Perhaps they have a Vitamin C option too, which is a little more the OP's taste politically.

I will gracefully bow out then. Peace. Flowers

TheMythicalChicken · 07/01/2019 19:27

@MissLanesAmericanCousin Don’t go! Your expertise is appreciated. And I think Drunk Elephant is a good suggestion. I have never tried their products but they claim to be cruelty-free, so might be worth looking into.
