They have some Japanese skincare stuff that's quite tempting looking but you have to take a membership.

I suspect it's all clever marketing and nothing special. I got hooked into the website for a few minutes and then came to my senses.

NewIdeasToday · 25/12/2018 22:09

I’ve been a member for quite a while now (nearly two years I think).

If you regularly spend on skin care and make up then I’d really recommend it. The skin care is great. For the price of normal supermarket products you get really good ranges and products eg serums, face masks (with sheets). And the make up is good too. The prices are good so I’ve found I experiment more than I did before.

Lumene · 25/12/2018 22:45

Yes, have just joined. At the moment I’m replenishing stocks after not having bothered with my makeup etc for years. Finding it great value. Got the brush set which was excellent value and various other stuff on the way.

MrsAndrewEldritch · 25/12/2018 22:47

I dont rate the make up as anything special but the skin care is worth the membership.

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/12/2018 22:58

I tried it with the recent Mumsnet trial and if you search then you'll find everyone's reviews.
I wanted to love it. I tried make up rather than skincare and the eyeshadow stick and the highlighter drops I use all the time. The lipsticks I chose were a miss as they were all too similar in shade.

Luckingfovely · 25/12/2018 23:02

It's a well thought-out and well run beauty buyers' club.

Yes, you pay membership, but the savings you make on the quality of the products makes it financially worthwhile. The skincare is worth it alone, and most (if not all) of the male up is good.

If you only buy one moisturiser a year, then clearly this is not for you. If you regularly buy decent quality skincare, then this is a very good option.

I love Beauty Pie! Just been raving about them on the other thread about best buys of 2018. The Japanfusion cleanser and the 5-minute facial are both excellent, I also love the make-up brushes, the eyeliner, the cream eyeshadow sticks, and the candles.

Haven’t tried the foundation or lipsticks yet, that’s my next month’s purchases!

Truckingonandon · 26/12/2018 08:25

I don't get it. I want to know what brand I'm getting and I think I'm right in saying that you don't with BP.

HalloumiGus · 26/12/2018 11:17

Thanks. I have rosacea so tend to buy carefully and infrequently but I liked the look of the Japanfusion kit. Also I guess I fancy upping my game a bit.

Trucking The brand is Beauty Pie. It is their own brand.

Truckingonandon · 26/12/2018 17:20

House - is that right? well I've totally misunderstood it then. I thought it was branded products but anonymised if you will.

Luckingfovely · 26/12/2018 17:25

Yup, they source their own formulations from the tops labs worldwide that make the highest quality products.

It's effectively a luxury brand of its own, but you're not paying for the Estée Lauder marketing budget, concessions, staff etc.

People seem to slate it very easily without actually bothering reading what it actually is.

Lotsofsausage · 26/12/2018 17:30

Truckingonandon the whole point of these new brands - beauty pie/ the ordinary etc is that you are paying for the active ingredients, not the brand..... i.e. you can buy a glycolic acid serum with exactly the same ingredients for 75% less than an expensive brand would charge. It's the active ingredients that will improve your skin - not the name on the packaging.

User5trillion · 26/12/2018 17:42

I began a membership 2 months ago. I love their eyeshadow sticks, face powder, make brushes, eye shadow pallets, mascara and most of the skin care.

I was in a baby bubble and didn't buy anything for years so I have replaced EVERYTHING. I am not convinced by the retail price but have been happy with everything except lipsticks - can't get the right colour.

I have upgraded my skin care - not actually convinced it works(any of it, any brand) but it is reasonably priced, so worth a shot.

Overall I think its worth a 3months membership (min term) and will probably downgrade after term is up.

I do now have some lovely make up and skin care stuff, for a fraction of high end retail prices. Whether it is as good as good high end stuff is debatable but I am happy.

I would recommend it. Caroline Hirrons hads a blog post where she raves about it.

Truckingonandon · 26/12/2018 18:29

Sausage - yeah, I get that. I don't like the ordinary but I do like the inkey list and qrx labs. I just didn't know BP was a similar kind of concept.

Lamentations · 26/12/2018 20:59

I've looked into it recently and I'm not sure it adds up to such a great deal but I stand to be corrected.

If I pay £10 a month I can buy £100 of products but that's at the value they tell us it's worth rather than what they charge. So they charge £15 for a night cream but say it's worth £100 so I can only buy that one item, which is actually then £25 that month. Is it really worth £100 though....?

RCohle · 26/12/2018 21:22

I liked the idea but found the practicalities annoying.

There is a monthly spending limit that is calculated on the (v high) "typical" price of the products not the lower "members" price you are actually spending. So you reach the limit really quickly even if you are actually only spending about £20.

I found that really frustrating and confusing. For example the Japanfusion set I wanted to buy has a typical price of £220 (even though the member's price is £25) . Being an ordinary member gives you a monthly spending limit of £100. So I'd have to be a member for three months, buying nothing for the first two months so I could roll over my full spending cap twice, to buy just one thing.

Plus with the makeup I've had bad luck with things being the colour I expected. But I guess that's a risk with any make up you buy online.

CognitiveDissonance · 26/12/2018 23:32

Has anybody tried the Apricot Butter Cleansing Balm? I'm tempted to sign up for the cheapest membership option to try it out. I'm a recent cleansing balm convert but I can't justify my usual EH at the moment!

GrimDamnFanjo · 26/12/2018 23:50

If you are thinking of buying the skincare then do a quick google of the ingredients first...
The makeup I bought was very similar to Kiko which I love and buy a lot of but is not a luxury brand.
I think the concept makes me a little cynical to be honest.

Bluelady · 26/12/2018 23:51

The Uber Youth serum is the dogs' bollocks. In fact all the skin care products I've tried are excellent, I don't buy anything else now.

User5trillion · 27/12/2018 00:17

I have that cleansing balm, its good but not amazing. It doesn't get rid of my eye make up - only coconut oil works.

Sarcelle · 27/12/2018 04:30

I did it for three months. Not convinced that the retail prices they quote are real. They seem very high.

The only things I bought that I rated were the One Wonder Powder, and a highlighter called soft soul. The rest were a bit meh.

similarminimer · 27/12/2018 07:40

I love it. I have the Japanfusion stuff which has been brilliant (although much prefer the Uber youth serum). You get £150 limit (retail not actual) for your first month, then £100 per month that rolls over, so you'd have to register and then wait a month to get the whole Japanfusion range (£225 'retail', would cost you about £29 with postage). Not been able to find a foundation texture that really suits me, have tried 3 different ones. But love the mascara, eye shadow sticks, lip oil, bronzer, the brushes...

500BusStops · 27/12/2018 07:40

I like their gel eyeliner in the little pot. It’s the only one that doesn’t smudge on me (I’ve tried BB, Mac, Laura Mercier, all smudged). The hand cream is also nice

Bit disappointed with the eyebrow pencil purchased on Sali Hughes recommendation. Colour is too pale. Also found the lipstick I bought is far paler than the website suggests.

similarminimer · 27/12/2018 08:34

Sorry - it's the stem cell serum I like
