Breast implant removal

Has anyone had this done? I had breast augmentation just over twelve years ago and am considering removal without replacement.

I had the op at a time when my self-esteem was at an all time low, I was 9 months PP and just 19 and did not consider the numerous replacements I may need.

I have tried to research but can not find many pictures of before and after. If you had a removal do you regret not having a replacement?

I understand that my breasts may not return to how they were pre augmentation but i’d like to know if anyone who has had this procedure was happy with how they looked afterwards?

I was an A cup previously, I had a 300cc implant behind the muscle and am now a C cup.

It’s going to look like spaniel ears without the implant. Mine need redoing next year and they really do it’s getting urgent, one has moved and it’s quite painful but I couldn’t go back to how they were prior to the op

I think you need to book in for a consultation with a plastic surgeon so that you know if removal on its own or with an uplift would be best.

Drona · 23/12/2018 21:08

5fivestar how long ago did you have them done? I am worried about spaniel ears as you put it, but then I’m weighing that up against how many more times I may need them replacing

10 years ago maybe 11 now

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/12/2018 00:08

I considered it last year. I'd had my first set in for 12 years and they needed re doing.

I joined a fb group that had women on who'd had them removed. Some showed photos of before and after.

I won't lie the after photos were not pretty, especially if like me you were an A before, so not much natural breast tissue.

In the end I had mine replaced.

5fivestar · 25/12/2018 13:34

Chesneyhawkes1 - do you mind if I ask what you paid ? Mine were £6,000 ten years ago, am I in for a shock ?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/12/2018 18:34

Can't remember the exact amount but it was around 5k in June last year. It was a few hundred more than the first time. I did get repeat customer discount 😂

5fivestar · 25/12/2018 18:41

I might try my luck it was hilarious because I got mine done then sent them
4 other mums from school, we must all be due an uplift 😂

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/12/2018 20:57

Definitely try! Especially if you are going back to the same place. I expect this set to last a lot longer as they've improved since my first set.

I expect I'll need them doing once more in my lifetime though. Gotta have nice perky boobs when I'm in my nursing home 👍🏻

datingloon · 25/12/2018 23:46

Are they silicone? I've had saline gel ones for 13 years now and they are fine and no issues, can't recall if surgeon said they would need replacing

Branleuse · 26/12/2018 00:12

A lot of new ones are lifetime ones. I was told mine wouldnt need replacing

5fivestar · 26/12/2018 08:17

There’s nothing wrong with the implant but after 10 years things start to drop again

lindyloo57 · 26/12/2018 16:28

i've had mine in for 13 years, was told they can last a lifetime. They have droped a little bit but as i am 58 they look ok for me, i had 360 cc size so a D cup sometimes a DD. i was a A cup,

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/12/2018 17:25

Hi OP, you can get your implants removed by local anaesthetic, by Nick Collis in Newcastle. Google him, read the reviews, look at the before and after pics.He is a s a respected plastic surgeon.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/12/2018 17:29

@lindyloo57, it is better to replace your implants every 15 years, some do survive longer.

Drona · 26/12/2018 21:00

Sugarpiehoneyeye thank you, I have been reading reviews and Nick Collis looks like an option. Having them removed by LA seems scary but the price is also very reasonable. I will schedule a consultation.

I am worried about what they may look like after, I seen some really good results and some not so good.

Branleuse at a recent consultation I was told that breast implants are not lifetime devices and that some may need replacing after only a few years whereas some may last 20+ years.

Inforthelonghaul · 26/12/2018 21:21

I’ve had mine 24 yrs and so far they’re holding up well. I was told at the time they should last a lifetime but I have no idea really and the clinic has long gone out of business. Just keeping fingers crossed as I definitely don’t have five grand to spare neither do I want to have another operation.

Drona · 26/12/2018 21:33

Inforthelonghaul do you have regular scans to check for ruptures? This is something that has been suggested to me before removal/replacement.

Dowser · 26/12/2018 23:54

Omg...never knew they needed replacing...

Chesneyhawkes1 · 26/12/2018 23:56

I found a lump in my breast and had a scan. It was actually my implant and not breast tissue. Which is why I had them replaced.

They hadn't leaked just gone a bit funny with age.

Inforthelonghaul · 27/12/2018 00:17

Drona I had some discomfort a couple of years ago and the go referred me to a breast clinic. They examined me and did a mammogram and decided that it was hormonal as am in late forties. They said ultrasound not much good only scan worth doing was an MRI and would cost hundreds. They did say my breasts looked amazingly good and if it ain’t broken.......

Inforthelonghaul · 27/12/2018 00:19

So obviously I’ve buried my head in the sand and just decided to leave them be till I actually have an issue with them. For now all is good.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/12/2018 09:30

I had mine replaced after 16 years, I'm glad I did, one of them was ruptured. I truly wish that I had left them out, to see what happened over time. I didn't want to go through a breast lift, or have my nipples relocated, so I just went for the replacement implants.
After hearing, and reading about Nick Collis, when I get round to it, I'll be heading in his direction !

Drona · 29/12/2018 22:01

Thank you for all of the replies.
I am having some discomfort in one breast and am concerned it could possibly be ruptured, so need to make a decision sooner rather than later.

I have silicone gel-filled, textured implants at the moment. If I did get them replaced I would look at smooth implants instead due to the risk of ALCL.

If anyone has smooth implants could you tell me if you’ve had rippling with them?
