Jeans and trousers for muscular glutes and small waist

P8mzbzpw · 23/12/2018 14:02

Mum in my late 40s, cycling and hiking nut for the last 30 years, big buttocks and thighs but have a smaller waist. Anyone have issues finding jeans or trousers that fit the legs and backside but then aren’t loose on the waist? I’ve spent too long on lycra but wondered if fashion has changed to accommodate the extreme pear

I’m a mountaineer and mountain biker and I wear Howies jeans.

Following...a runner here, small waist but junky thighs...fed up of gaping waist bands and/or belts.

sizzledrizz · 23/12/2018 21:36

Work out regularly, run and weight train. Sick of not being able to get jeans over my calves and thighs, and if I can I have massive gaping around the waist. Have mostly given up with trousers and jeans, only buy skirts and stretchy dresses these days.
Following in desperation

Have you tried 7 for all mankind Kimmie?

LuckyKitty13 · 23/12/2018 21:39

I have this issue. I've found craghoppers trousers very good. I currently have 2 styles that fit - they have a lot of stretch in them, and I find I have to go for a size down to ft the waist - but legs will stretch to fit (but not to tight- they are flattering). Expensive though unless you find a deal or outlet store.

Sadly for about 3 years now I haven't found any others in other shops! I'm a dressed person otherwise for that reason!

These are fab - I have 3 pairs. But size down by at least one size. I usually fit a 12 in trousers. But I have the size 10 for a neat skinny fit and could get in the size 8 if I had to.

The kiwi pros are decent too, but the ones I've linked to are more casual/not obviously a hiking trouser!

ArkAtEee · 23/12/2018 22:30

I size up to fit bum and thighs, then take to a tailor to take in the waist. Costs between £5-£10.

Outdoornut · 23/12/2018 23:26

Oh yay there are similar folks out there. I have tried GAP, Wrangler, Guess, GAP, Paige, Levi Curve and 7 for all Mankind and if i can get them over my thighs and bum there is a gaping hole at the back and if i then wear a belt the material looks all scrunched up. I will try Craghoppers. I have also heard Uniqlo, J Brand and Girlfriend are good brands for a pear shape so i will let you know how they fit if people are interested?. I do track cycling which is power based so i have pretty mighty hindquarters and hamstrings but my upper body has stayed weedy and my waist is not stick thin but a lot smaller than my hips. My hubby cant empathise as he's a skinny bean pole and jokes that i am shaped like a t-rex. Probably too much information but I have the last laugh when we play fight and I put him in a death squeeze like a boa constrictor using my thighs.

Ediemcready · 23/12/2018 23:33

Gap Curvy jeans are a god send. I’ve got a small waist & big bum & thighs. Would probably be a 10 in normal gap jeans but in the Curvy range I wear a 6 and they fit perfectly. No gap at the back & my legs don’t look like sausages. Get them when Gap do one of their many VIP 40% offers.

Ediemcready · 23/12/2018 23:35

“Girlfriend” jeans are also good as there is s bit extra room in the leg but aren’t too baggy.

Cherries101 · 23/12/2018 23:40

Top shop’s Jamie super skinny jeans work for me but aren’t that great if you want to wear them while cycling.

Like you I am an extreme pear, (have a two size difference between waist and hips/bum). Gap are too big for me, even their curvy range, as are Levis. Tommy Hilfiger’s non-stretch denim is okay but tends to verge on too-thin.

Outdoornut · 23/12/2018 23:44

I think tried the GAP mid rise ever black and I had to go up to 12 and then i had the waist problem as they looked like maternity pants. Are these ones roomy enough in the bum area? I have big thighs but its my big ole cyclist backside thats enormous so you may be a different build.

Outdoornut · 23/12/2018 23:47

Top Shop and the words 'super skinny' werent the first thing that come to mind as an extreme pear - sounds like i would burst out of them. Are they stretchy?

xsahm · 24/12/2018 00:05

I wear NYDJ and J Brand, both often on sale and fit well as long as they're long enough (I'm 5'7)... they have a tendency towards the cropped ankle which just look too short on me but if I can find full length they're good

xsahm · 24/12/2018 00:06

I think having the larger thighs also makes them ride up an inch or two

Cherries101 · 24/12/2018 00:07

@Outdoornut - yes they are but sturdy too, so tend to be very supportive. I have a huge bum, hips and thighs but they look amazing on me. Definitely Try them

Cherries101 · 24/12/2018 00:07

Just to add Topshop Jamie and Joni jeans are high waisted.

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 00:12

@Cherries101 Thanks I will give them a go then as you are pretty much my doppleganger then.

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 00:15

@xsahm you are right. I have tried a few that seem to lift up on the ankles. I think bigger thighs brings them up but its also if they are too tight on the bum everything rides up.

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 13:32

Tried the girlfriend high rise jeans and they were surprisingly really comfy and waist was fitted. Little bit tight on the thighs but can live with.

fleuriepeninsula · 24/12/2018 14:09

I have a very small waist and a relatively full bottom. Paige jeans are my favourite and Uniqlo jeggings are also very forgiving.

Having said that, if you are an extreme pair then the best route is to get a dressmaker to make a few darts in the waist band - it’s only £10/15 and will make a world of difference.

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 14:46

@fleuriepeninsula Paige were difficult for me. I’m going to invest in a sewing machine as you’re right. Funnily enough the shop assistant plucked up the courage to say “sorry hun but you need to tailor your jeans”. She’s right. Life with extreme glutes is fun :-)

TheLongRider · 24/12/2018 15:18

Another sufferer, long distance/ Audax cycling is my sport.

For cheap and cheerful jeans, Primark's high waisted skinnies are ok.

Salsa jeans are fantastic for the pear shaped. More expensive and used to be available in House of Fraser.

Lycra is great both on and off the bike!

PineapplePower · 24/12/2018 15:57

I’ve pretty much given up on trousers/jeans. No regrets though!

Outdoornut · 24/12/2018 16:01

@TheLongRider i haven’t tried Primark so will give them a go if they work? I’ve heard salsa jeans are awesome and roomy at the back? Can you recall any brands. Apologies for the desperation but you probably understand given our hobby
