What is wrong with my hair? Photo

What is wrong with my hair?
Had it highlighted a week ago.
Just washed it for the first time and I’m trying to straighten it, but it looks like there’s loads of snapped off bits all the way up?
Anything I can do?

Sorry. Manic day.
Hair stretches lots when pulled. It doesn’t really snap.
It’s very frizzy and if I scrunch dried it I would end up with 80s perm type curls.
I’ve found as the day has gone on it looks less broken.
Maybe needed a bit of oil in it to tame the frizz.
I only wash it once a week as it never really gets greasy, I suppose because it’s so dry.

It definitely looks like the top of my hair is a bit smoother?

Ok, that suggests you need protein
I would get this mask (probably on offer somewhere!!) as it's a really decent deep treatment that will give you some protein back

Amazing. Thank you.
That’s really reasonable ££ wise.
Also does anyone remember the hair product that is mentioned on here quite a lot?
It’s supposed to keep your hair frizz free and straight/smooth for up to 7 days?
Can’t for the life of me find where I screen shot it.

It's good, I need moisture so I use the Manuka honey one!

styledisaster · 23/12/2018 21:37

Found that other product too. “Colour wow dream coat” any ideas whether that will work? Has great reviews.
If not I’ll stick to your link!

I think from what I remember it's v silicone heavy. So it will coat the hair and make it feel nice and protect it but not change the actual condition of it

The recommended moisturiser is on special offer with Superdrug, £7.32!

How do you brush your hair from root to tip?

wombatron · 24/12/2018 06:59

I've been here OP. I would recommend an Olaplex blow dry - they use number 1 and 2 on hair with no colour, then condition before blow drying. Then use no 3 once a week at home. Repeat once a month and only get your highlights done somewhere there that uses Olaplex in the process.

I found Davines Nou Nou hair masque to be excellent (bought from Look Fantastic or somewhere similar not amazon as they sometimes sell fakes). I'd also consider washing more than once a week as it may be too long in between and be drying out.

sheldonstwin · 24/12/2018 07:20

It is unlikely in your case, but my hair went like this when I was severely anaemic. Have you been feeling tired lately OP? Have you had any chest pains? If you tried everything else, maybe a trip to your GP might be in order.

Sickoffamilydrama · 24/12/2018 10:40

My friends hair started to go like this after years of straightening. She now wears it curly and loves it.
I'm biased because I've always just gone with my curls, curly hair is naturally more porous so takes on mouisture and loses it easily so you have to find ways to get the mouisture in and then keep it in whilst keeping excess out. This website is good for information (including how to straighten with minimal damage) www.naturallycurly.com

Doggydoggydoggy · 24/12/2018 17:36

Heat and/or bleach damage.

Chop it off and don’t straighten or bleach it again would be my suggestion.

Olaplex or similar would make it appear smoother but ultimately the damage isn’t fixable imo

WrapAndRoll · 24/12/2018 18:25

Frizz Ease serum is good. Also a conditioning treatment of warm olive oil (leave on for 20 mins).

StellaRockafella · 24/12/2018 19:31

What rot some of you speak! A Brasilian blowdry or keratin treatment will not damage OP's hair further. It will make its condition a million times better.

I also suggest saturating the hair (dry) with coconut oil, wrapping in clingfilm and leaving for a few hours at least. Shampoo out and your hair will feel and look a lot better.

darlingShelby · 25/12/2018 08:37
Grin What drama queens! op has hair like this because she has curly hair that she has straightened! Mine is the same. Even down to highlights. It will always look like that because the hair shaft is totally different in wavy/curly hair! It is actually trying to curl again. Artificially straightened hair always gets results like this. Nothing to worry about at all!
Grannyannex · 25/12/2018 08:45

Have you gone on the pill? That can dry out Hair and cause hair loss. Also low ferritin, low vitamin D and B12

Grannyannex · 25/12/2018 08:45

And thyroid issues

Bouledeneige · 25/12/2018 08:46

I agree with darlingshelby.

Naturally curly hair is like this when straightened. I have very coarse hair on the hairline round my face and whether it was coloured or not its always friable. Naturallu curly hair has irregular shaped hair shafts which make it curl and the ends often shoot out. People with straight hair have it too but because the hair is straight it doesn't show so much.

katekat383 · 25/12/2018 10:06

What damages hair is doing unnatural things to it - such as straightening hair that is curly. It always looks wrong. Naturally straight hair is very different from the fake straight variety.

DownUdderer · 25/12/2018 10:17

Curly girl method! I bet it’d be lovely curly:)

MikeUniformMike · 25/12/2018 16:32

I can't see any split ends. Those are flyaway ends.
To brush your hair from root to tip - don't. Use a wide-tooth comb.
comb about an inch from the ends out then progressively start combing a little bit further from the ends, until you eventually reach the crown.
Frizz ease type product might help.

thecatsleftpaw · 25/12/2018 16:37

Colour Wow is amazing stuff, I can't recommend it enough

Bloomburger · 25/12/2018 16:44

Use Redken Extreme shampoo and conditioner, it's for hair like yours and will stop to a degree the breakage.

lavalampoon · 25/12/2018 16:47

I would recommend a break from bleaching if possible - try a toner to make it dark blonde/light brown. I did this for 6 months and my hair looked a lot better. I also found a big improvement when I had a Brazilian blow dry one a year and ditched straighteners altogether
