I just can't make it look nice, it either looks like I'm not wearing any makeup, or just droopy eyed. Please does anyone have any tips, what am I doing wrong? Is my face just too old to retain makeup properly? I can't do eyeliner nicely because the skin is too crinkly and impossible to "draw" on. And my brow is dropped down. Perhaps I should start with some BOTOX?

Thanks for the tips. I would love to draw more of a flick on the outside but its impossible, because my eyes are sunken if that makes sense? Or not sunken, but the brow bit sticks out more, so the flick is lost. I'm finding it difficult to explain!

You have lovely eyes. If your DD has a decent supply, run a little brown eyeshadow through your eye socket and a coppery/gold on your lid. With a little black along your lash line and some very natural false eyelashes it will look lovely and not too much.

LVL would work well for your lashes too! I have it done and I love it. Makes mascara that little bit easier.

eefa658 · 22/12/2018 20:26

You just have a deep socket line - your eyes aren't sunken!

KMoKMo · 22/12/2018 20:29

As a pp said you have hooded eyes. I do too and it’s what gives the ‘sunken’ look. They just don’t stand out as much.
Google hooded eye make up and you’ll get loads of hits and tips for application. Trick is to uses a lighter shadow and hoghlihter for the parts of the eye to bring forward and dark shadow to ‘hide’ the problem bits. All explained on line

Truckingonandon · 22/12/2018 20:33

Tight lining doesn't involve putting liner on the water line.

OHolyNightOwl · 22/12/2018 20:52

No, the OP does not have hooded eyes. That's when you can't see(or barely see) the lid because it's covered by the upper part. The OP has deep set eyes.
Lots of good tips if you google deep set eyes makeup.

taybert · 22/12/2018 21:29

I’m rubbish with makeup, however, I think the recommendation for eyelash curlers or a lash lift is a sound one. My eyes are a bit like yours and like you my lashes aren’t short but they point downwards. I have a lash lift every 6 weeks which really helps. It’s basically a long lasting eyelash curl and really helps to “open” the eyes.

bumblebee39 · 22/12/2018 21:39

Eyeliner with a couple of flicks in the corner along top lash line and eyelash curlers or a falsies to fill out your upper lashes

Beautiful brows (I know I'm not the only one who's complimented you on them but they are rather lovely)

Oh, and a little bit of glitter liner along the bottom lashes or in the corners of your eyes will make your look even more glam!

bumblebee39 · 22/12/2018 21:39

I used to get eyelash extensions and they are wonderful xx

Ohyesiam · 22/12/2018 21:42

I have diminishing middle aged lashes, and have been really impressed by a mascara primer called FFL( forget fake lashes). It really pumps them up.

APositiveMind · 22/12/2018 21:55

I have a slight double lid like yourself,
Try using a darker brown shade in your crease then extend it above you crease to give the illusions you have more eyelid.
I'll attached a pic of my eye so you get the idea lol. - see I have very slightly extended the brown above my eyelid towards the brow bone Grin you have beautiful eyes and brows! You don't look 'old' at all!

Sorry had friends around...

Tight liner can be applied into the lash line but from under the lashes rather than over so you don't actually apply onto the waterline. There are plenty of YouTube videos showing how...

Absolutely perfect. Don’t fake it up. Lovely to see your actual eye.

messyhousetidymind · 22/12/2018 22:42

Deep set eyes - look up pics of rose byrne for example make up

EnidButton · 22/12/2018 23:03

You have deep set eyes. They're no sunken and you're not too old! Your skin looks great.

Zero advice sorry but I love your eye colour. It's gorgeous.

OHolyNightOwl · 22/12/2018 23:20

Yes, the technique @APositiveMind recommends would look nice!
Here is a 4 min tutorial by Wayne Goss on how to do a version of it (though he recommends especially for hooded or down turned eyes, but it would work on your eyes too):

LavenderExtract · 22/12/2018 23:56

Heya!
So here's my 2 cents here. You seem to have very open blue eyes, which are quite deep set. All eye shapes can be made up so don't worry, it's just about working with the shapes you have.

I always recommend a few places to start a) think about always using 3 shades on your eye. A light shimmery shade to use on the inner third, a matte neutral middling shade to make the shape of your make up and a darker colour to deepen the crease. To develop the shape of your make up, because your eyes are deep set, set yourself up with a mirror straight ahead of you and looking into it find the line where you want the 'flick' or end of your eyeliner to be. Then your eyeshadow should blend no further than a line drawn from the outer corner of your eye to the end of your eyebrow. I've even heard of using a line of concealer to provide a guide line. The shadows should blend above your natural crease to create the illusion of a less droopy shape. Also use a matte bone white (an ivory) to highlight underneath the brow bone, it helps lift the look.
b) some products. 'drugstore' can be just a effective as high end if you know where to look and equally just because it had a high price tag it doesn't mean it is high pay off. Someone else mentioned urban decay primer potion which is an excellent eye primer but an equally good 'dupe' is the elf eyeshadow primer. Although I do think for setting spray, urban decay is unparalleled. I'd be interested to know what eyeliner you are currently using, I'd recommend either the kat von d tattoo liner or nyx vinyl liquid liner (practice with a mirror and a cotton bud). As for shadows there are plenty of amazing palettes out there, my mother likes the natural eyes by too faced, although be careful to tap your brush because it is a bit powdery.
c) lashes. If you want to use false lashes go for something decent, think silk or mink, they're reusable and look so much less fake, but normally I would recommend using a eyelash curler and a good mascara like loreal lash paradise or better than sex (too faced). A waterproof mascara will help the lash hold the curl.
d) finally, make up should be fun! Play around with shapes and colours, until you find what you like!

God, us women have had such a number done on us.

All these people offering tips on how to fix what look like perfect and beautiful eyes.

It’s not normal to do this to someone. Or I guess it is but it shouldn’t be.

Drogosnextwife · 23/12/2018 00:26

I would say don't go too thick with the eyeliner and you are right no flick as it would look disjointed, I have the same sunken eyes. Some lashes might be nice but not too drastic. Use shadows to create the shape. Do you use concealer or foundation on your eyelid first?

Drogosnextwife · 23/12/2018 00:33

Auntiepatricia

The OP asked for tips on how to get a desired look there is nothing wrong with people offering advice.

Some people like wearing make up. I don't wear make up often but I love it, I love to get done up when going out, it makes me feel good. I loved it so much when I was younger I did a college course.

No one is giving tips on how to "fix" OPs eyes and no one has said they need "fixed", just tips on how to apply make up.

I don't understand why some people take such offence when a woman wants to wear make up, not because she feels like society is saying she should, but because she wants to!

NigellasGuest · 23/12/2018 08:51

There's so much inspiration for me on this thread- I can't thank you all enough! For a start, I now know all about deep set eyes, which in itself is a gateway to exploration.... loads of useful youtube videos to get me started (the trouble is knowing where to start and now I have lots of pointers).
@APositiveMind thanks for bothering to upload a picture of your eye makeup, that's helpful and I can adapt for my older eyes. You look great!
@Drogosnextwife yes I use MAC painterly on eyelids to cover the pinkish tint of the now thinning skin there. I think that's what's on them in the picture, although I do use Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer for undereyes, and sometimes some of that goes on my eyelidsntoi (see I don't have a set routine and kind of make it up as I go along). Yes you are quite right, you describe it well when you say the flick is disjointed due to the sunken eye. I would love to know if there is a tip for disguising that and managing a decent flick, that's my next Google mission. So much to do at this time of year but I'm pushing this up my priority list!!
@EnidButton Thanks
@LavenderExtract are you a professional, you seem very knowledgeable. Will reread your post and take it all in....

Also, good old @Auntiepatricia .... 1) this is S&B, not FWR 2)No one's doing anything to me, I love tinkering about with this kind of stuff because it's FUN!

PS to the poster who asked which eyeliner I habe on in the photo (sorry can't name check as I can't find the post, but I'm sure someone asked)- it's a Charlotte Tilbury one.

When I've made the Christmas Eve casserole and got my DD to help me ice the Christmas cake I will have another experimentation , and hopefully upload another picture!

I'm an amateur but it's a real passion of mine and I do a lot of make up on my family and friends, have fun experimenting!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/12/2018 15:21

Hi OP. I have used the youtube tutorial shown in the picture. Sorry it won't let me link but you could use the relevant words to search. Also struggle with eyeliner and I use a brow product (funnily enough) from L'Oreal. Name has faded but It's a sort of sponge felt tip as per picture.

mintmagnummm · 23/12/2018 18:19

Your skin looks great what do you use? Also I've been considering the Bobbi brown corrector, is it good??
